“...love people when they least expect it
and least deserve it. That is the
kind of love Jesus shows to us.”
~~ Mark Batterson, A Trip Around the Sun:
Turning Your Everyday Life
Into the Adventure of a Lifetime ~~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the Lord's commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good? Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it. Yet on your fathers did the Lord set His affection to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day. Circumcise then your heart, and stiffen your neck no more. For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality, nor take a bribe. He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing. So show your love for the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt. You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name. He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes hae seen. Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.

Deuteronomy 10:12-22

Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Him with her sons, bowing down, and making a request of Him. And He said to her, "What do you wish?" She said to Him, "Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left." But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you are asking for. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to Him, "We are able." He said to them, "My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father." And hearing this, the ten became indignant with the two brothers. But Jesus called them to Himself, and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It is not so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man, did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransome for many."

Matthew 20:20-28

And He said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 22:37-40

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all possessions to feed the poor and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous, love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.

1 Corinthians 13:1-8

If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Phillipians 2:1-4

Do not marvel, brethren, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has the world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. We shall know by this that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before Him, in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. And the one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And we know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

1 John 3:13-24

CROCHET TIP

Yarn needles simplify the task of weaving yarn ends into a project.
However, threading the yarn needle can be difficult.
Due to the fact that some yarns are comprised of multiple plies,
the yarn can split when threading the needle.
To make threading the needle easier... fold the yarn
and insert the folded end into the eye of the needle.

Re: Double_Ruffle_Granny_Baby_Afghan

For your afghan , how many chain did you make to start it off?

Alexandra

<< Reply >>

This afghan is worked from the center outward...
Row 1 begins by making 4 chains using the white yarn.
Then you work all of the following stitches in the fourth chain from the
hook:
2 double crochet
*
chain 1
3 double crochet

Now repeat the instructions from the asterisk two more times.
Chain 1
Join with a slip stitch in the top of the beginning chain 4.
Chain 3 and turn the work over.

Re: Ribbed_Boutique_Tissue_Cover

Hi!

I'm enjoying crocheting this nice easy pattern, but am wondering where the extended single crochet (esc) stitch is that you refer to?

Thanks,

Lin McDowell

<< Reply >>

Glad you're enjoying the pattern.
The extended single crochet is not part of this pattern.
I had inadvertently left that on the stitch list when I typed the pattern.
Thank you so much for letting me know, I have removed that information from the pattern page.

RE: Suggestion/Question

Petals to Picots V-Stitch Ripple -Row 1 explained

Hi Lisa my name is Lisa I can crochet anything but I can not read a pattern I can do a chevron an also a wave blanket I'm trying so hard to make a blanket for my daughter it's a v stitch crochet ripple afghan pattern here is the web site petalstopicots.com I just can't get it do you think you can help me out please thank you thank you thank you.

<< Reply >>

For Row 1 on this pattern:
http://www.petalstopicots.com/2014/10/v-stitch-crochet-ripple-afghan-pattern/

You begin by making 186 chain stitches using your main color.
Then for Row 1 you work 1 double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook.
That stitch and the skipped chains will count as one dc2tog (double crochet 2 together).
+
skip the next 2 chains
*
make one v-stitch in the next chain
[a v-stitch is made by making one double crochet, one chain and another double crochet, all in the indicated stitch.]
skip the next 2 chains
**
now back up and repeat the instructions between the single asterisk and and the double asterisk two more times.

Now make a v-stitch, one chain and another v-stitch in the next chain.
[this should form a hill or peak in the pattern]
skip the next 2 chains

Now repeat the instructions between the * and the ** three times.
work a dc2tog in the third chain and the 5th chain [this means you work one double crochet in the third chain without completing the last step... then skip the next chain, work another double in the next chain without completing the last step... then yarn over and draw through all the loops on the hook.]
++

Now repeat the instructions between the + and the ++ across the rest of the row.
You should have 64 stitches when you finish.

Let me know how it goes.

Lisa

The Incident - True story about how God works

This is about my Father In Law, James Hamblin.
We asked for and received prayer from many of our crochet family after his accident and during his recovery process. For those who do not know, James fell in October causing multiple injuries which took months to overcome. He is home now and doing well.

This is his story!

read this, it will change your mind!

The parents were very disappointed in the grades that their
son brought home.

"The only consolation I can find in these awful grades,"
lamented the father, "is that I know he never cheated during
his exams."

Occasionally at the restaurant where I work there are extra
desserts, and the staff are given some to take home.

Once I brought home two pieces of cheesecake for my son and
daughter. Katie had a piece that evening.

The next day her older brother found her watching TV and eating
more cheesecake. "Are you eating my cheesecake?" he demanded.

"Oh, no," she replied sweetly, "I ate yours yesterday."

I was signing the receipt for my credit card purchase when
the clerk noticed I had never signed my name on the back of
the credit card. She informed me that she could not complete
the transaction unless the card was signed. When I asked why,
she explained that it was necessary to compare the signature
I had just signed on the receipt.

So I signed the credit card in front of her.

She carefully compared the signature to the one I had just
signed on the receipt. As luck would have it, they matched.

A young girl was helping her mother bag groceries
when we heard the tell-tale "splat" of the eggs
hitting the floor.
The girl looked up and her lip started quivering
as she waited for mom’s response.
Mom looked at her, looked at the eggs, smiled and
said "See, I told you we were making scrambled eggs
today!".

A husband and wife went to the fairgrounds. The wife wanted
to go on the Ferris wheel, but the husband wasn't comfortable
with that. So the wife went on the ride by herself.

The wheel went round and round and suddenly the wife was thrown
out and landed in a heap at her husband's feet.

"Are you hurt?" he asked.

"Of course I'm hurt!" she replied. "Three times around, and you
didn't wave once!"

My sister and I, visiting our uncle in the hospital, had
brought along a treat for him. Because we weren't sure
if he was on a restricted diet, we asked at the nursing
station and were told it was alright to give him the
brownies.
As we turned to leave, an doctor held up his hand to
stop us. "I'm here," he advised, "for quality control!"

While visiting my 89-year-old grandfather in the hospital, a nurse

came in to check his blood sugar. Before she started, the nurse

examined his red fingertips that had been poked numerous times

already and said, "Humm...which finger should we use this time

that won't hurt too much?"

"Yours!" my grandfather replied.

A teenager who had just received her learner's permit offered
to drive her parents to church. After a hair-raising ride,
they finally reached their destination.

The mother got out of the car and said, "Thank you!"

"Anytime," her daughter replied.

As the woman slammed the door, she said, "I wasn't talking to
you. I was talking to God."

1. Your potted plants stay alive.

7. You're the one calling the police because those kids next
door don't know how to turn down the stereo.
8. You don't know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.
9. Your car insurance goes down and your car payments go up.
10. You feed your dog Science Diet instead of McDonald's.

The minister brought his 4 year old daughter to bed and asked
what she would like to pray about.

Promptly she answered, "Onions."

So they prayed about onions.

The next morning, the Reverend asked her why she wanted to pray
about onions.

"Because you said in your sermon Sunday that we should pray for
things we don't like."

Rachel, 7, is one of my Sunday school students.

On a recent Sunday when I asked her which crayon she wanted
for the bookmarks she was coloring, she requested pink.

“Today my favorite color is pink,” she told me, adding, “I
change my favorite color every day because I like all the
colors!”

A family was rushing to get to the movies.

The parents told the children they had to leave "right now"
at which point their teenage daughter headed for the bathroom
to apply makeup.

Her father yelled for her to get in the car immediately, and
headed to the garage grumbling.

On the way to the theater, the father glanced in the rearview
mirror and saw his daughter applying lipstick and blush, which
produced the predictable lecture. "Look at your mom," he said.
"She didn't put on any makeup just to go sit in a dark movie
theater."

The daughter's response was, "Yeah, but Mom doesn't need makeup."

The mother's heart was swelling with the compliment, and she
turned back to thank this sweet, wonderful daughter just as she
continued, "Nobody looks at her."
