WORKING IN ROW ENDS
Sometimes a pattern has you work rows of
stitches and then to form a border or edging
you are instructed to "work in the
row ends". The row ends are the first & last stitches you did
on each row. If the rows are single
crochet stitches then the "end of the row" refers to
making the required stitches around the
first & last single crochet stitches on each row.
If the first & last stitches on the
row are double crochet stitches you work around the post of the double crochet stitches. No matter what
kind of stitch you are using you
work around the actual stitch on the end of the row... not into the
top of it.
The first photo in the following picture
shows a swatch turned on its side
with the ends of the rows on the top. I
used a white cotton thread to work into the
row ends so you could see where the stitches
go. The second photo shows the entire
piece with a border added. I worked one
single crochet into each row end, one single
into each unworked loop of the foundation
chain, one single in each row end up the opposite
side, and one single in each stitch on the
last row I had made. For each corner I worked
3 singles so the motif wouldn't curl up.

Hi, I love this hat. I have crocheted a baby sweater in the same stitch, almost identical pattern. I need to make this hat, but for 3-6 months. Can you help me accomplish this. This baby is due in March, so I have some time. Would greatly appreciate you ur help.

Hi Donna:
To make a larger hat size requires increasing the number of stitches.
Working 2 single crochet stitches in one stitch is an increase.
Round 4 contains increases... each time you work Round 4 it makes the hat
a little larger.
Including an extra repeat of Round 4 might make the hat large enough for the size you want.
You might also try increasing your hook size.

I'm making a towel topper. It is wider and seems to need more than 44 stitches.
If I start with more than 44 (88) stitches, when and how much do I decrease by?

This pattern:
http://www.crochetnmore.com/dishtoweltopper.htm
needs 44 stitches to begin.
To use more stitches would require a complete pattern redesign.

Hello
My pattern asks me to sc in 4 sc as a decrease for a simple barbie doll dress does this mean to skip to the 4 sc then do the sc ? I tried this but it does not leave me with 25 stitches out of 30
You are so kind to offer your help
Regards
Peggy

Hi Peggy:
See if this helps:
For Round 1 of this pattern
http://www.crochetspot.com/crochet-pattern-barbie-doll-ruffle-dress/
you begin by working 30 single crochet stitches onto a rubber band.
For Rounds 2, 3, 4 and 5 you work one single crochet in each stitch. (you still have 30sc)
For Round 6 you do this:
work one single crochet decrease
(To make a single crochet decrease do this:
insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop.
insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop.
yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook)
work one single crochet stitch in each of the next 4 stitches.
work one single crochet decrease
(insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook)
work one single crochet stitch in each of the next 4 stitches.
work one single crochet decrease
(insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook)
work one single crochet stitch in each of the next 4 stitches.
work one single crochet decrease
(insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook)
work one single crochet stitch in each of the next 4 stitches.
work one single crochet decrease
(insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook)
work one single crochet stitch in each of the next 4 stitches.
Now you will have a total of 25 stitches (single crochets and single crochet decreases included in this count)

CROCHET TIP:
With each project, include an index card with a list of yarn and the hook size needed to complete that project. If you need to set your project aside for any length of time (during which you might forget the materials used), you will have the card to help you remember which materials are needed.

I can not understand my dog sweater pattern regarding the leg openings. " all leg sections are worked at the same time using separate balls of yarn for each section." I can't figure out these instructions. Hope you can help me.
Thank you. Charleene

Hi Charleene:
Which pattern are you making?
Lisa

LISA,
Thank you for replying to my request. The crochet dog coat size large is from Bernat. I downloaded it from yarnspirations free patterns.I have worked through the 5th row and have 87 stiches. I don't understand how to proceed with the leg openings. Thank you again for offering to help me. And may God also bless you.

There are many different dog coat patterns.. I believe you are making this one:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/spinrite/yfo/bernatCares/WEB-BERNAT-C-CROCHETDOGCOAT.pdf
If you have 87 stitches after the 5th row on this pattern you are making a size XL.
For the Leg Openings making an XL, you begin the leg openings by working in the same pattern in the next 9 stitches.
Then slip stitch in the next 7 stitches. Chain 1. Work in pattern as before across 55 stitches. Slip stitch in the next 7 stitches.
Finish the row in pattern to the end.
The legs are worked at the same time... each leg is made by working in pattern for 2-1/2" and ending with a right side row.
The joining row is a wrong side row. keeping in pattern for 9 stitches then chain 7.
Working in pattern again across 55 stitches. Chain 7 and continue in pattern to the end of the row.
The "Next row" is worked in pattern for 9 stitches... keep in pattern working in the next 7 chains,
continue in pattern across the 55 stitches and the next 7 chains as well as on across to the end of the row.
You should have 87 stitches upon completing of this row.
Continue working even in pattern until it measures 11" after the neckband. End with a wrong side row, placing a marker at each end of the last row.

The Incident - True story about how God works
This is about my Father In Law, James Hamblin.
We asked for and received prayer from many of our crochet family after his accident and during his recovery process. For those who do not know, James fell in October causing multiple injuries which took months to overcome. He is home now and doing well.
This is his story!

"Laughter is an instant vacation." - Milton Berle

Humor provides us with a valuable tool for

My Dad and I were talking while I was visiting last weekend.
I asked him the secret of his long and happy marriage to my
Mom.
He said that as soon as they were married he let her know
who was the boss.
At this point my Mom broke in, "He sure did. He looked me
right in the eye and he said, 'You're the boss!' "
While talking with my semi-deaf uncle one evening, I
noticed that his "hearing aid" was actually an earphone
from a transistor radio. The wire had been cut and was
sticking out of his shirt.
"How does that help your hearing?" I asked.
"Don't help my hearing none," he replied. "Makes people
talk louder."
Three months after the birth of my first child, I finally
managed to get to the supermarket alone. As I stood in the
check-out line with my full cart, someone tapped me on the
shoulder and asked, "How old is your baby?"
I turned around and was surprised to see an unfamiliar face.
"How do you know I have a baby?" I asked.
"Because," she replied with a smile, "You're rocking your
groceries and humming 'Hush Little Baby.'"
A five-year-old boy was in church with his parents, witnessing the
wedding of a family friend.
"Mommy," he whispered, "why does the lady wear white?"
His mother smiled and whispered back, "Because she is very happy to
be getting married."
The little boy thought for a moment, then replied, "So why does the
man wear black?"
So a woman walks into the optometry store to return a pair of
eyeglasses she had purchased the week before.
"What seems to be the problem, ma'am?" the optometrist inquired.
"Well, I bought these glasses for my husband last week and
they're just not working," the woman complained.
"Perhaps the lens grinder made an error in filling the
prescription."
"I'm sure he must have," the woman confirmed. "He's still not
seeing things my way."
My 4-year-old niece Brittany is an absolute joy, and sometimes
a trial. The hardest thing to do is get her to say Thank You,
I'm Sorry, or Please.
One day I asked her why she wouldn't say thank you. She thought
about it for a minute and then looked at me with a serious
little face and said: "I don't got no manners in my mouth."
Now every time she says thank you or please, she'll look at me
and grin, then say: "Look! I have manners in my mouth!"
Our 4-year-old daughter's surgery was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. We were becoming
anxious as time passed and no one came to get her. Finally at 12:30, the surgeon
arrived at her room.
Knowing my husband is a minister, the doctor asked us if many people were praying
for this surgery.
Edgy from the delay, I said, "They were praying for you an hour ago."
With a smile, he shot back, "Thanks. That surgery went very well."
A young man, fresh out of college, went to see his doctor one day.
"Doc, there's something wrong with me. Every time I stand in a baby's
high chair and face southwest, and then touch my tongue to a piece of
aluminum foil that's wrapped around an acorn, I get a strange tingle
in my big toe. Can you tell me what the problem is?"
"Sure!" The doctor said.
"You have way too much time on your hands!"
The Baltimore Police Department, famous for it's superior K9 unit,
was somewhat taken aback by a recent incident. Returning home from
work, a woman had been shocked to find her house ransacked and
burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the
crime.
The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the channels, and a K9
officer patrolling nearby was first on the scene. As he approached
the house with his dog on a leash, the woman ran out on the porch,
clapped a hand to her head and moaned, "I come home from work to
find all my possessions stolen, I call the police for help, and what
do they do? They send a blind policeman!"
The minister's little six-year-old girl had been so naughty
during the week, that her mother decided to give her the
worst kind of punishment. She told her she couldn't go to
the Sunday School Picnic on Saturday.
Then, when the day came, her mother felt she had been too
harsh and changed her mind. When she told the little girl
she could go to the picnic, the child's reaction was one of
gloom and unhappiness.
"What's the matter? I thought you'd be glad to go to the
picnic." her mother said.
"It's too late!" the little girl said. "I've already prayed
for rain!"
A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large amount of goods totaling a great deal of money.
The distributor noticed that the previous bill hadn't been paid.
The collections manager left a voice-mail for them saying, "We can't ship your new order until you pay for the last one."
The next day the collections manager received a collect phone call, "Please cancel the order. We can't wait that long."
A man and his ten-year-old son were on a fishing trip miles from
home. Being good Christians they decided to attend the Sunday
worship service at a small rural church.
The father forgot to bring any cash, so he reached in his pocket
and gave his son a dime to drop in the offering plate as it was
passed.
As they walked back to their car after the service, the father
complained. "The service was too long," he lamented. "The sermon
was boring, and the singing was off-key."
Finally the boy said with a grin, "Dad, I thought it was pretty
good for a dime."
