POST STITCHES
Post stitches are made using basic crochet stitches (sc, hdc, dc, tr, etc).
The stitch is called a "post stitch" because of the placement of the stitch.
FRONT POST STITCH
Insert hook from the front side from right
to left around post of st on previous row, complete the indicated stitch.
BACK POST STITCH
Insert hook from the back side from right to left around post of st on previous row, complete the indicated stitch.

To be sure you finish a motif afghan before your deadline make a motif and keep track of the time it takes. Now set aside the time needed each day to complete the motifs. Don't forget to allow extra time for joining them :o)

Re: ReadAPattern
I have a bootee pattern that says to dc in nt 9chs I don't know what nt stands for...perhaps you could enlighten me. Thanks
Nancy
<< reply >>
I believe the designer has used “nt” as an abbreviation for “next”.
Therefore your instructions would be to work one double crochet
in the next 9 chains.
Hope this helps.
Re: Suggestion/Question
I am new to crochet and am working on a pair of baby booties. The pattern uses the terms single chain decrease, double chain decrease and half double chain decrease. Are these the same as single CROCHET decrease, double CROCHET decrease and half double CROCHET decrease?
Also, do you have utube videos that show these decrease stitches?
Thank you!
Jean Johns
<< Reply >>
I believe you are correct about these stitches.
Here are links to videos for each:

Double Crochet Decrease:
Half Double Crochet Decrease
Enjoy!

Subject: Suggestion/Question
How do you do a left and right triple cluster?
Clara
<< Reply >>
There are variations of the cluster stitch but basically it means there is more than one stitch clustered together. As an example: If you were doing a 3 double crochet cluster you would do each double crochet without completing the last step (you would have 2 loops on the hook after the first dc, 3 loops on the hook after the second dc and 4 loops on the hook when all three dcs are completed. Then you yarn over and draw through all of the loops. That is what "Clusters" the stitch.
For a triple cluster, you would work triple crochet stitches and cluster them together at the end. I don’t recall seeing a “left” or “right” cluster stitch.
Hope this helps.
I am working on your adorable Puff Stitch Baby Hat. I see two rows of Puff Stitches in the picture but only R18 instructs to make the Puff Stitches. Is there another row of Puff Stitches between your R20 and R21?
M. Jeanne Lee
<< Reply >>
There is only one row of puff stitches in this pattern.
The texture you see is due to the front and back post stitches on R21.

When the pattern says to work right to left, then left to right...do you turn your work? I'm trying to do the adv afghan....

This depends on a number of factors.
Does your pattern include a graph or is it a written pattern?
Is the pattern regular crochet or tunisian crochet?
In regular crochet stitches are normally worked from right to left
with the exception of specialty stitches such as the reverse single crochet.
Is this pattern online?
Re: abbrevation
I'm working on a pattern ( Pretty Crochet Doily) and one of the abbreviations in the instructions is ss. It's not slip stitch. I've been doing crochet for 40 years and I've never seen this one before. Do you know what it might be? The pattern is by Bernat. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Even though this pattern contains the abbreviation “sl st” for a slip stitch,
I believe “ss” is also used for a slip stitch.

I am using this pattern and have a question about the 2nd ruffle. The instructions say to start in the unused loop at the base of the 1st Ruffle. Are you indicating to use the front loop. If so, are you inserting the hook from the bottom up through to the top or are you inserting the hook from the top down through to the bottom in the front loop.
Thank you for your assistance.
Jacqueline

For the second ruffle I hold the afghan with the edge away from me, working into the unworked loop of each stitch from the bottom up.

Has anyone made this afghan with a dark color yarn? I'm thinking of doing this in a darker color but wondered if the letters would stand out as well as they do with a lighter color yarn.

I've only seen this afghan made using baby pastels or neutrals. If the definition of the puff stitch isn't clearly visible on the intended yarn color I would not use it unless I did all puff stitches in a contrasting color.

This book
is a wonderful addition to any crochet library.
I've had numerous requests over the years of what to crochet for
boys.
Crobots are definitely the answer!
This 96-page book is filled with numerous types of Crobot patterns
as well as well-illustrated instructions for the
crochet stitches, assembly stitches and other embellishments used
in the patterns.
The patterns are well written, some of the book is written in a
small font but the pictures are wonderful. NOTE:
This book comes to you with a safety warning regarding the small
parts used in the patterns.
Therefore, please use your own discretion as to the age of the child
you intend the gift for.

Toward the end of our senior year in high school, we were required
to take a CPR course.
The classes used the well known mannequin victim, Resusci-Annie, to
practice. Typical of most models, this Resusci-Annie was only a
torso, to allow for storage in a carrying case.
The class went off in groups to practice.
As instructed, one of my classmates gently shook the doll and asked
"Are you all right?" He then put his ear over the mannequin's mouth
to listen for breathing.
Suddenly he turned to the instructor and exclaimed, "She said she
can't feel her legs!"
An elderly gentleman checked into a New York hotel. The
clerk mentioned the phone service the establishment made
available for calling guests who wished to rise at an
early hour.
"No need for that, young man," snapped the old timer. "I
always wake up at five A.M. sharp without an alarm clock."
"Very good, sir," the clerk replied, then asked, "Would
you mind calling me at six?"
A teenager was sitting in church, and when the collection
plate was passed around, he quickly pulled a dollar bill
from his pocket and dropped it in.
Just then, the person behind him tapped him on his shoulder
and handed him a $20 bill. The boy smiled, placed the $20 in
the plate, and passed it on, admiring the man's generosity.
Then the boy felt another tap from behind and heard a whisper:
"Son," the man said, "that was your $20 bill that had fallen
out of your pocket."
Doctors at a hospital in Brooklyn, New York have gone on
strike. Hospital officials say they will find out what the
doctors' demands are as soon as they can get a pharmacist
over there to read the picket signs!
I've started an exercise program.
I do 20 sit-ups each morning.
That may not sound like a lot, but you can only hit that snooze button so many times...
A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large amount of goods totaling a great deal of money.
The distributor noticed that the previous bill hadn’t been paid, so he asked his collections manager to leave a voice-mail for them saying, “We can’t ship your new order until you pay for the last one.”
The next day the collections manager received a collect phone call, “Please cancel the order. We can’t wait that long.”
A man is recovering from surgery when the Surgical Nurse appears and
asks him how he is feeling.
I'm O. K. But I didn't like the four letter-words the doctor used in surgery,'he answered.
'What did he say,' asked the nurse.
'Oops!'
A goober calls Delta Airlines and asks,
'Can you tell me how long it'll take to fly from San Francisco to New York City?'
The agent replies, 'Just a minute.'
'Thank you,' the goober says, and hangs up.
While shopping for vacation clothes, my husband and I passed a display
of bathing suits. It had been at least ten years and twenty pounds since
I had even considered buying a bathing suit, so I sought my husband's advice.
'What do you think?' I asked. 'Should I get a bikini or an all-in-one?'
'Better get a bikini,' he replied. 'You'd never get it all in one.'
He's still in intensive care
Suzi, my cousin, was telling me about an evening service at
the church we've both attended for years. She and her husband
usually sat in the back, but this time they moved up front to
be sure to hear the Scripture reading.
They sat beside a long-time church member who cheerfully said,
"Good to have ya with us! Where y'all from?"
Taken by surprise, Suzi mumbled, "The back."
When we put our house up for sale, I stressed emphatically
that my sons make their beds each morning. I left for work
before they left for school, and I wanted to be sure that
the house looked presentable when the agent showed it to
prospective buyers.
I was surprised and impressed that my 15-year-old son's
bed was perfectly made each day. One night when I went
into his room, I discovered his secret.
He was fast asleep on the floor in his sleeping bag.
A young boy gave some serious advice to his little sister.
He told her, "When you need help from our parents, don't
ever tell them you made a mistake. Instead, say you want
to talk to them about a recent learning experience. You
get into much less trouble that way!"
