REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET (a/k/a CRAB STITCH)
REV SC
VIEWER QUESTION
Subject: Stitch_Question
Hello,
I am new to crochet and was making your cup coaster pattern, but I am confused what the REV sc means at the end of the pattern. I followed the pattern and I love the look of it and would like to finish it.
Thank you
Janie Gould
ANSWER
Rev Sc is a
REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET (a/k/a CRAB STITCH)
A reverse single crochet is worked from left to right; whereas a regular single crochet stitch is worked from right to left. Insert your hook into the stitch or space indicated, then yarn over and pull up a loop. (You should have two loops on your hook.) Yarn over and draw through both of the loops on your hook. This stitch takes a bit of practice but the outcome is well worth the effort.
Here’s a video demonstrating the stitch:

Carry a small notebook and a pen/pencil along with your crochet project. Sticky notes also come in handy.
From time to time a pattern will require repeating certain rows multiple times. Listing those repeats
and then crossing them off as you complete them will help you keep your place in the pattern.

Re: Double_Ruffle_Granny_Baby_Afghan
You do not indicate what stitch and how many stitches for first row ?
Brenda Smith
<< Reply >>
This afghan is worked from the center outward...
Row 1 begins by making 4 chains using the white yarn.
Then you work all of the following stitches in the fourth chain from the hook:
2 double crochet
*
chain 1
3 double crochet
Now repeat the instructions from the asterisk two more times.
Chain 1
Join with a slip stitch in the top of the beginning chain 4.
Chain 3 and turn the work over.
Re: Mom's afghan
My daughter in law wanted an afghan to reflect the births of her three children.
Hopefully, I have successfully added these photos.
This new program is not as user friendly as I'd like it to be. Although the pattern is my own design, I used your number patterns. In order to fit the larger square, I modified them a bit. The only one that gave me fits was the number seven.

How to dc2tog over same space as last dc2tog-st and 3rd ch of ch 4?
Linda Johnson
<< Reply >>
This means you will work a double crochet decrease (a/k/a double crochet two together)
by working one double crochet (without completing the last step) in the same space as the
last decrease stitch, then work another double crochet (without completing the last step)
in the third chain of the chain 4. Now yarn over and draw through all loops on the hook.
Subject: Suggestion/Question
Hi Lisa,
I just found your website and I'm really happy to find resources for crocheting. I am having trouble understanding a pattern I was hoping you might help. I found explanations for brackets( fo what follows) but nothing helping if what follows is a number.
Round 3: Ch 2, [dc in next 9(3) sts, 2 dc in next st] 2(5) times. Join to first dc with a sl st. (22(25) dc)--
so far from what I understand - I would double crochet in nine sts 3times??? It just isn't clicking is that 3dc in nine stitches then 2dc then another 3dc in 9 sts
You can see I confused. Any assistance would be appreciated----immensely
My nearest craft store only holds one crochet class a month and I missed this months.---ugh

The extra number in the parentheses within the pattern row is in reference to a different size.
For Round 3, do this:
chain 2
[
double crochet in the next 9 stitches for the first size OR 3 stitches for the second size.
Work 2 double crochets in the next stitch
]
The part of the instructions within the brackets will be repeated 2 times for the first
size OR 5 times for the second size.
Now join with a slip stitch in the first double crochet you made.
When finished you will have either 22 double crochet stitches for the first size
OR 25 double crochet stitches for the second size.

Can I add more chains to make it wider?

You should be able to add to the chain in increments of 5 to make it wider.
Subject: Baby's ABC@s Afghan Crochet Shawl
Please can you help me out? I am resident in the UK and have found this pattern on the internet which my pregnant daughter has fallen in love with and has asked me to make. I need to have a UK stockist for the wool and need to convert the pattern to UK together with UK crochet hook sizes.
Thanks in advance!

The Baby’s ABCs Afghan materials list calls for Caron Simply Soft Yarn and a size D hook.
Simply Soft is a medium weight yarn. Details about Simply Soft yarn can be found here:
http://www.yarnspirations.com/yarns/simply-soft
including gauge swatch information which will help you choose a comparable yarn.
When I make this afghan I use Bernat Baby Coordinates it is a lighter weight yarn.
I like a size G hook.
Details on Bernat Baby Coordinates can be found here:
http://www.yarnspirations.com/yarns/baby-coordinates
The following yarn conversion chart may help you choose a similar yarn:
http://www.karpstyles.com/yarn_conversion.html
According to the following page:
http://www.joann.com/caron-simply-soft-yarn/10105153.html
Simply Soft Yarn is a Weight 4 with a recommended hook size H8.
This page will be useful in helping you with the different stitch names:

This page may be useful in finding a stockist:

Enjoy the pattern.
RE: Message on the Crochetnmore Fan Page
Could you please direct me to the pattern for the Baby Alphabet afghan pattern as shown on your cover photo?? Also, is it possible to work this pattern for a double sized bed?? My grandson is 4 years old and I would love to make this for him. Thank you so much.

You can find the pattern on this page:
http://www.crochetnmore.com/babysabcsafghan.htm
To enlarge the pattern you could make it using a larger hook and a heavier weight yarn. You could also add a wider border to the edge to make it larger.

Re: Finger Puppet
Hi, by any chance do you have a crochet finger puppet pattern that is similar to the Link figure from Zelda.
I would gladly pay you for a pattern. Thanks, Monica

There's a Link pattern in the preview pane near the bottom of this page:

It isn't a puppet but you may be able to make it into one.

This book
is a wonderful addition to any crochet library.
I've had numerous requests over the years of what to crochet for
boys.
Crobots are definitely the answer!
This 96-page book is filled with numerous types of Crobot patterns
as well as well-illustrated instructions for the
crochet stitches, assembly stitches and other embellishments used
in the patterns.
The patterns are well written, some of the book is written in a
small font but the pictures are wonderful. NOTE:
This book comes to you with a safety warning regarding the small
parts used in the patterns.
Therefore, please use your own discretion as to the age of the child
you intend the gift for.

Humor provides us with a valuable tool for

Grandchild: "Oh, I sure am happy to see you, Gramma! Now maybe Daddy will do the trick he promised!"
Grandmother: "What trick is that, dear?"
Grandchild: "I heard him tell Mommy that he would climb the walls if you came to visit again!"
Dan hated dogs, he hated them with a passion. One morning
Dan was driving his car down a busy street when to his
surprise he saw ahead of him a fellow running full force
with 2 big dogs after him.
“I’ve just got to save this guy”, thought Dan, and with
that he quickly sped up along side of him, rolled down
his window, and screamed “hurry, hop in!”
“Thanks!” said the fellow opening the door, “it’s always
hard for me to get a ride when I have my two dogs with me!”
Before leaving home with our family for the drive from Maine to Florida's Disney World, the children
were warned that it was a long trip and no one was to
ask, "How much farther is it?" or "When will we arrive?"
The journey was remarkably question- free until 9 a.m.
on the third day, when Theresa sighed, "Will I still
be five when we get there?"
During a medical assessment before moving into a retirement
home, a nurse asked my grandparents, "Do you need hearing aids?"
"Yes," my grandmother answered. "But he doesn't like his, never
wears it and leaves it at home."
Then she added, "I always carry mine in my purse."
Late one Sunday morning, my husband was getting
increasingly frustrated by his failed attempts
to rouse our teenage daughter from
her bed. A short while after his last attempt,
the phone rang.
She leaped out of bed and
answered it on the first ring.
"Hello?" she asked expectantly, which was immediately followed by a wail of frustration...
her dad was calling from his cell phone.
After a very long and boring sermon the parishioners filed
out of the church saying nothing to the preacher. Towards
the end of the line was a thoughtful person who always
commented on the sermons.
"Pastor, today your sermon reminded me of the peace and love of God."
The pastor was thrilled. "Nobody has ever said anything like that about my preaching before. Tell me why."
"Because it endured forever."
My daughter Dauna, had been teaching her Grade 3 and 4 students how pioneer families lived. They studied pioneer
clothes and manners, as well as how they celebrated holidays.
Dauna decided to prepare a pioneer dinner for her classes,
with mothers helping to heat and serve the feast. At the end
of the meal, one boy raised his hand.
"Yes, Michael?" Dauna asked.
"Oh, Mrs. Meeks! This was the best dinner I've ever had in
my life! You shouldn't be a teacher; you should be looking
after our cafeteria!"
A professor stood before his class of twenty senior organic biology students, about to hand out the final exam.
"I want to say that it's been a pleasure teaching you this
semester. I know you've all worked extremely hard and many
of you are off to medical school after summer. So that no
one gets their GPA messed up because they might have been
celebrating a bit too much this week, anyone who would like to opt out of the final exam today will receive a 'B' for
the test."
There was much rejoicing in the class as students got up, walked to the front of the class, and took the professor up
on his offer. As the last taker left the room, the professor looked out over the handful of remaining students and asked,
"Anyone else? This is your last chance."
One final student rose up and opted out of the final.
The professor closed the door and took attendance of those
students remaining. "I'm glad to see you believe in yourselves,"
he said. "You all get 'A's."
I'm not much of a gift wrapper, especially compared with the women who work at our shop. But I was the only one available
the day a customer wanted a gift wrapped for his mother.
"Sorry," I said, handing back a box covered with wrinkled, oddly taped paper. "It's wrapped, but it sure looks like an
amateur did it."
“Great," he said happily. "Now my mom will think I did it
myself."
A young and foolish pilot wanted to sound cool on the aviation frequencies.
This was his first time approaching a field during
the nighttime, and instead of making any official
requests to the tower, he said, "Guess who?"
The controller switched the field lights off and
replied, "Guess where!"
