ADDING FRINGE
Cut strands of yarn 12" long to use for fringe. Add 2 strands at a time until entire area is filled below the mouth opening. I placed a fringe between all of the stitches on every other row. You can fill the space any way you want to make the beard thicker or thinner.
NOTE: I mixed the two kinds of yarn using one strand of each for some fringe and two strands of Bernat for other fringe. For a fuzzier beard, use more bernat as it fuzzes really well.
Cut 6" strands and use 2 strands at a time to fill in the area above the mouth opening.
TIE STRINGS
Make one on each end of R1 of the BEARD FOUNDATION
R1: Attach Nickel yarn to the end of R1 of the Beard Foundation. Work 1sc in the row end and 1sc in the top of the st on the corner.
Rs2-26: Ch1, turn. Sc in ea st.
R27: Sc2tog.
Rs28-40: Ch1, turn. Sc in sc.
Fasten off.
I used the Bernat yarn and added an additional row of sc sts along the foundation chain to even out the color.
NOTE: You can customize the tie string length by adjusting the number of rows.
When finished you can selectively trim the fringe lengths and use a comb to fuzz the ends of the yarn. The Bernat fuzzes more than the Red Heart.
Fit beard around your chin, aligning the mouth opening, then tie the strings near the top of your head.
Wear a cap to hide the tie strings.
