MATERIALS:
4-ply Cotton
Hook: Size I
Yarn Needle
1" button
Sewing Needle & Thread
Stitches used: ch, sl st, sc, dc.
Difficulty: EASY/MEDIUM
R1: Ch 4, 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st in top of beg ch-4. (12 dc)
R2: Ch 3, do not turn. 2 dc in each dc around. Dc in same sp as beg ch-3. Join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. (24 dc)
R3: Ch 1, do not turn. Sc in bl only (this is the loop farthest from you) of each dc.
BEGIN CONTINUOUS ROUND
Place marker at the beginning of each new round. Work 1 sc in ea sc until you have 27 continuous rounds.
Join with sl st in next st. Do not fasten off.
FLAP
R1: Ch 1, turn. Sc in 6 sts.
R2-4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st.
R5-10: Ch 1, turn. Sc in 2 sts. Fasten Off.
Attach yarn with a sl st in the stitch on the opposite end of Round 4 and repeat Rows 5-10.
R11: Ch 1, turn. Sc in 2 sts. Ch 2, sc in 2 sts on opposite side.
R12: Ch 1, turn. Sc in next 2 sc. 2sc in ch-2 sp, sc in next 2 sc.
R13-16: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st.
R17: Ch 1, turn. Sc in 2 sts. Ch 2 (this forms the button hole). Sk 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts.
R18: Ch 1, turn. Sc in 2 sts. 2 sc in ch-2 sp. Sc in last 2 sts.
R19: Turn, sl st in 1st st. Sc in 4 sts. Sl st in last st.
Fasten Off.
HANDLE
R1: With flap on the right side, join yarn in the 2nd sc from the flap (on the last continuous round of sc).
Ch 1, sc in same st. Sc in next 3 sts.
R2: Ch 1, sc in each st.
Repeat R2 until handle is desired length.
Fasten off leaving a length of yarn for sewing. Use a yarn needle to sew the handle to the opposite side being careful not to twist it.
Finishing: Insert a bottle of water and fold the flap over the lid to see where to position the button and sew on the button.
