The following pattern is my original design.

MATERIALS:

Red Heart Super Saver - 4ply WW (burgundy)
Hook Size K

Stitches: ch, sc, sl st, rev sc, sc2tog.

Difficulty:  MEDIUM


-BOTTOM-

R1: Holding two strand together throughout the pattern. Ch 21. Sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Sc in ea rem st.

Rs2-11: Ch1, turn. Sc in ea sc.

-SIDES-
(begin rounds)

R1: Ch1, turn. Sc in ea st across. Ch1, sc in ea row end.
Ch1, sc in unworked lp of ea st along foundation chain.
Ch1, sc in ea row end. Ch1, join with sl st in first sc.

R2: Ch1, do not turn. Sc in ea sc leaving all ch1 sps unworked. Join with sl st in first sc.

R3: Ch1, turn. Sc in ea sc. Join with sl st in first sc.

Rs4-8: Rep R3.

-HANDLES-

R1: Working in 20 sts on ea long side. Attach yarn in the first st. Sc in same st and in next 19 sc.

Rs2-4: Ch1, turn. sc in ea sc.

R5: Ch1, turn. Sc2tog. Sc across to last 2 sts. Sc2tog. (18sc)

R6: Ch1, turn. Sc in ea st. (18sc)

R7: Rep R5. (16sc)

R8: Rep R6. (16sc)

R9: Rep R5. (14sc)

Rs10-13: Rep R6: (14sc)

R14: Ch1, turn. Sc in next 2sc. Ch10, sk 10sc. Sc in last 2sc. (4sc and 10chs)

R15: Ch1, turn. Sc in first 2sc. 10sc in ch10 sp. Sc in last 2 sc. (14sc)

R16: Ch1, turn. Sc2tog. 10sc in ch10 sp on R14 (working over the scs on R15). Sc2tog.

-EDGE-

Ch1, do not turn. RevSc all the way around both handles and sides.

OPTION:
On the sides, work additional repeats of Row 3 to make a deeper tote to be used as a purse or bookbag.

 

Fasten Off.
