Heart Afghan Square
(6" Square)

Bonnie Harlan made this square by incorporating an extra heart. She whip stitched around each heart and then put a single crochet in each whip stitch.

NOTE: I do not have a graph for the double heart.

The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.

MATERIALS:

Hook Size H

Red Heart Super Saver - 4 ply worsted weight yarn (red and white)
Yarn Needle

Stitches Used: ch, sl st, sc, hdc.

Difficulty: EASY/MEDIUM

NOTE: Click here for information on chart crochet!

With White, Ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Follow chart for color changes.

CHART STITCHES:

c = sc in white ; g = sc in red; n= sc around in white

BORDER:
Rnd 1: Ch 1 after Row 19. Sc evenly around square placing 3 sc in each corner.
Join with sl st in 1st sc. (n shows each sc around square and there should be 21 sc on each side)

Rnd 2: NOTE: This rnd isn't shown in the diagram.
Ch 3, (ch3 counts as 1 hdc + 1 ch) Sk next st, hdc in next st.
(Ch 1, sk next st, hdc in next st) 8 times.
* (Ch 1, hdc, ch 1, hdc) in corner
Ch 1, hdc in next st.
(Ch 1, sk next st, hdc in next st) 9 times.
Repeat from * twice more.
(Ch 1, hdc, ch 1, hdc) in corner.
Ch 1, join with sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch 3.

Fasten Off.
