make one flower garden block |
Many people like their afghans to have straight
edges. I've included fill-in pieces to help you
achieve straight edges. |
The
following pattern is my original design.

MATERIALS:
Red
Heart 4 ply, worsted weight yarn
(one main color and two contrasting colors of your
choice)
Hook Size G
Stitches: ch,
sc, sl st, hdc, dc.
Difficulty:
MEDIUM/DIFFICULT
MOTIF
Note: One block requires six motifs of one contrasting color and one motif of
another contrasting color.
R1: With one of your contrasting
color choices,
Ch4, dc in 4th ch from hook.
(Ch3, dc around last dc) 5 times.
Sl st bet first 2sts (the first ch4 and dc).
Do Not Turn. (looks like a 6 petal flower. The petal being the ch3 and dc.)
R2: Working bet the ch3
& dc of each petal.
Ch3 (dc, ch2, 2dc) in same petal
(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ea rem petal.
Join with sl st in top of beg ch3.
Fasten Off.
Do Not Turn.
R3: Join white in any ch2
sp.
(Sc, ch2, sc) in ea ch2 sp.
Sc in ea dc.
Join with sl st to first sc.
Fasten Off.
SIDE FILL-IN
R1: Ch4, dc in 4th ch from
hook.
(ch3, dc around last dc) twice.
R2: Ch1, Do not turn.
2sc around ea dc. Ch3.
(2dc, ch2, 2dc) around ea ch3 sp.
Ch2, join with sl st in beg ch1.
EDGING:
Ch1, Do not turn.
Sc in ea st.
(Sc, ch2, sc) in ea ch sp.
TOP/BOTTOM FILL-IN
R1: Ch4, dc in 4th ch.
(Ch3, dc around last dc) 3 times.
R2: Ch4, join in first ch
at beg of R1.
Sl st in sp bet 1st ch4 and dc.
Ch2, 2hdc in same sp.
(2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in next 2 sps.
2hdc in next sp. Hdc in next dc.
EDGE
Ch1, 2sc around last hdc.
Sc in next dc, 4sc in ch4 sp.
Sc in next dc. 2sc around post of next hdc.
Ch2, sc in next 4 sts.
*(Sc, ch2, sc) in next ch sp.
Sc in 4sts.
Rep from * once. Ch2, join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.
ASSEMBLE BLOCK
Six motifs of one color and one motif of a contrasting color make one block.
Join the motifs as pictured above using your favorite joining method.
Add the fill-in pieces and the border of your choice.
