Checkers pattern

The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.
Please contact me if you find any errors.

MATERIALS:

Hook: Size H (Boye)

Yarn: Red Heart 4 ply

Stitches used: ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, tr, rev sc, love knot.

MC = Main Color (I used Navy)
CC = Contrasting Color ( I used Red)

Difficulty: MEDIUM/DIFFICULT

NOTES:

Click here for information on chart crochet!
1. Carry the old color through by working stitches in contrasting color over the old color. This keeps both colors close to the hook making color changes easier.
2. Just before the last color change on each row (unless otherwise indicated) you can drop the old color, then pick it up on the way back.

FOUNDATION CHAIN: Ch 65 using MC.

ROW 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 7 chs. Chain to CC and work a sc in each of the next 8 chs. *Change to MC and work a sc in each of the next 8 chs. Change to CC and work a sc in each of the next 8 chs. Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn.

ROW 2: Work a CC sc in each CC stitch and MC sc in each MC stitch. Ch 1, turn.

ROWS 3-7: Rep Row 2.

ROW 8: Work a CC sc in each CC sc and a MC sc in each MC sc. NOTE: Carry old color through last block, then change colors at the main end of the row. Ch 1, turn.

<COLOR CHANGE>
Row 9: Work a CC sc in each MC sc and a MC sc in each CC sc. Changing colors accordingly.

ROWS 10-15: Rep Row 2.

ROW 16: Rep Row 8.

Repeat Rows 9-16 Six more times.

BORDER:

Fasten off CC and continue border using the MC.

RND 1: Work the following stitch sequence: 8 sc, 8 hdc, 8 dc, 16 tr, 8 dc, 8 hdc, 8 sc. Repeat for sides and bottom. Join with sl st. Ch 1, do not turn. (FYI: I didn't add extra corner stitches for this round)

RND 2: Sc in each sc, hdc in each hdc, dc in each dc, tr in each tr. Adding 1 ch in each corner. Join with sl st in 1st sc made. Do not turn.

RND 3: Ch 4, * sk next st, dc in next st, ch 1. Rep from * around placing (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch 1 space (in each corner). Ch 1, do not turn.

RND 4: Loosely work one Rev Sc in each st around.

FASTEN OFF & Weave in the Ends.

DECORATIVE CORDING: Holding one strand of MC and one strand of CC, work a strand of love knots long enough to weave throughout Rnd 4 twice. Once you weave the cording through the row, join the ends and fasten off.
