POINSETTIA MATERIALS:

CARON "NEW" WHITE - APPROX 34 oz
RED HEART JOCKEY RED - APPROX 16 oz
RED HEART PADDY GREEN - APPROX 9 oz
LIGHT YELLOW - APPROX 1 oz
HOOK SIZE F

NOTE:
THESE SQUARES ARE MADE IN TWO PARTS AND ARE JOINED ON RND 6 OF BACKING.
BE CAREFUL WHEN JOINING THAT THE PETALS DO NOT GET TWISTED.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WEAVE IN LOOSE ENDS AS YOU GO AS THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM

STITCHES:
SINGLE CROCHET (sc),
HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (hdc)
DOUBLE CROCHET (dc),
TREBLE CROCHET (tr):
[ YO hook twice, insert hook in indicated st, yo draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times.
DOUBLE TREBLE (dtr):
[ Yo hook 3 times, insert hook in indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 4 times.

FLOWER MOTIF
(MAKE 24)

CENTER
RND 1: With lt yellow, ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring, ch 3 (1st dc), work3 dc in ring, ch 1, remove hk from lp, insert hk in top of beg ch-3, pick up dropped lp, draw through lp on hook, ch 1, [4 dc in ring, ch 1, remove hook from lp, insert hook in 1st dc of 4 dc group, pick up dropped lp, draw through lp on hook, ch 1] 3 times, sl st to join in top of beg ch 3, fasten off.

RND 2: Attach red yarn in any ch 1 sp of rnd 1, ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 4,[sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 4] rep around, sl st to join in beg sc. (4 ch 4 lps)

PETALS
ROW 3: Ch 1, work 2 sc in next ch 4 sp, ch 1, turn. (2)

ROW 4: Work 2 sc in ea sc, ch 1, turn. (4)

ROW 5: Work 2 sc in 1st sc, sc in ea next 2 sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (6)

ROW 6: Sc in ea next 5 sc, ch 1, turn. (5)

ROW 7: Sc in ea next 4 sc, ch 1, turn. (4)

ROW 8: Sc in ea next 3 sc, ch 1, turn. (3)

ROW 9: Sc in ea next 2 sc, ch 3, turn, sk 1st sc, join with sl st in 2nd sc,

Fasten off.

REP ROWS 3 THROUGH 9 IN SAME CH 4 SPS.
REP ROWS 3 THROUGH 9 TWO TIMES IN EA REM CH 4 SPS. (8 PETALS)

WORKING BEHIND PETALS, WITH GREEN, JOIN WITH SL ST IN BETWEEN PETALS, CH 1, SC IN SAME SP AS JOINING, CH 4, SC BETWEEN PETALS, CH 4 AROUND. (4 CH 4 SPS). WORK 2 PETALS (AS ABOVE) IN EA CH 4 SP. FASTEN OFF (8 LEAVES)

RND 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, [1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc] Rep around, Join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. (36)

RND 4: Rep RND 3. (54)

RND 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, [dc in ea next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc] Rep around, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3. (72)

RND 6: Holding flower on top of block and making sure petals do not get twisted, ch 3, *yo, insert hook through ch 3 sp on green petal and next dc on RND 5, complete dc, dc in next 3 dc, yo, insert hook through ch 3 sp on red petal and next dc on RND 5, complete dc,dc in next 4 dc*, rep from * to * around except after last red petal dc in last 3 dc, join with sl st in top of beg ch 3.

RND 7: Ch 5, (1st dtr) 4 dtr in same sp, (5 dtr, corner made) 1 dtr in next dc, 1 tr in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 5 dc, hdc in next 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc, tr in next dc, dtr in next dc, [5 dtr in next dc, dtr in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 5 dc, hdc in next 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc, tr in next dc, dtr in next dc] around, join with sl st in top of beg ch 5.

RND 8: Sl st to 3rd dtr of corner, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in Next 15 sts, dc in next 3 sts, *5 dc in next st, (corner) dc in next 3 sts, Hdc in next 15 sts, dc in next 3 sts*, rep from * to ) around, join with sl st in top Of beg ch 3.

RND 9: Sl st to 3rd dc of corner, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp, (corner) hdc in next 25 Sts, 5dc in next st, hdc in next 25 sts*, rep from * to * around, join With sl st in top of beg ch 3. Fasten off.

RND 10: Attach red yarn in center st of any corner, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp, (corner made) sc in next 29 sts, * 3 sc in next st, sc in next 29 sts* rep from * to *, join with sl st in 1st sc, fasten off.

JOINING SQUARES:
Holding wrong sides together and working through back loops only, with red yarn start in center sc of corners sew squares together. Make 4 panels of 6 squares each. Sew panels together.

EDGING:
Starting at bottom right-hand corner attach red in 2nd sc of corner, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp, sc in ea sc to next corner,* 3sc in 2nd sc of that corner, sc across to next corner* rep from * to * around. Finish off.
