WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us, we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians 5:20

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who had disbelieved shall be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it shall not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Mark 16:15-18

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Ephesians 6:18-20

"KEEP THE FAITH, BUT NOT TO YOURSELF."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - December, 2001 Issue.

American women have their own special eye for style and taste. They like apparel that has unique qualities and meets their needs for comfort and multi-purpose use. And we understand that. We also understand that value and customer service are important in the lifestyle of active, busy women who must often wear many hats. You want quick delivery . . . you like free shipping. And you don't have a great deal of time to be changing clothes several times in a day for multiple activities. You need versatile separates that travel well from work, to dinner with friends, to PTA meetings. And the good news is . . . we've got it all right here!

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

COLOR CHANGE

This page is helpful on how to change colors or to add on a new skein in the
same color. It also has tips on how to carry old colors through that you
pick back up when the pattern says to:
http://crochet.about.com/hobbies/crochet/library/weekly/aa072697.htm

Stitchguide.com offers a video illustration of a coor change:
http://www.stitchguide.com/pages/cro_color_change.html

If your project requires numerous color changes you might want to
carry the old color through by crocheting over it until you need to pick it
back up again.

If the color change is only for a few stitches I would work the required
stitches in that color, then drop the yarn to the back of the work if I
needed it again. If you don't need that color again then work a regular
color change, cut the old color yarn and weave in your ends.

Here's how I do a color change when I carry the old color through:
HOW TO ALTERNATE TWO COLORS:
COLOR A
COLOR B

Finish the required stitches for Color A within one step of finishing the
last stitch. Drop Color A and yarn over with Color B to finish that stitch.
Now work the required stitches for Color B (while you are working or
crocheting over Color A as you go). When you need to change back to
Color A, you work the last stitch of Color B within one step of finishing it
and drop Color B. Yarn over with Color A and work as before.

This might not appear to be smooth going at first but after a couple of
color changes you will get the hang of it.

This page explains how to work with multiple colors when doing chart
crochet:
http://www.knittedthreads.com/tips/croq/tipcroq.htm
most charts are done using single crochet stitches.

Computers Do More Work...

While visiting a friend who was in the hospital,
I noticed several pretty nurses, each of whom
was wearing a pin designed to look like an apple.

I asked one nurse what the pin signified.

"Nothing," she said with a smile. "It's just to
keep the doctors away."

A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying.
To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17."

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for
a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up.
The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters.
I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

A man was having trouble getting his neighbor to keep his chickens fenced
in. The neighbor kept talking about chickens being great creatures, and as
such they had the right to go where they wanted.

The man was having no luck keeping the chickens out of his flowerbeds, and
he had tried everything. Two weeks later, on a visit a friend noticed his
flowerbeds were doing great. The flowers were beginning to bloom.

So the friend asked him how he managed to keep the birds away. "How did you
make your neighbor keep his hens in his own yard?"

"One night I hid half a dozen eggs under a bush by my flower bed, and the
next day I let my neighbor see me gather them. I wasn't bothered after
that."

A woman was really vain, and always talking about herself and her hubby was geting pretty sick of it.

As she was talking to her friends one day, she commented "People say I have the
figure of a 24 year old." Which her husband overheard and yelled...
"well you better give it back to her, your getting it all wrinkled!"

Young William Tell (how it all started)

A duke is hunting in a forest with his men-at-arms and servants
when he comes upon a tree. Archery targets are painted all over it,
and smack in the middle of each is an arrow.

"Who is this incredibly fine archer?" cries the duke. "I must find
him."

After continuing through the forest for a few miles, he comes
across a small boy carrying a bow and arrow. Eventually the boy
admits that it was he who shot the arrows plumb in the centre of all
the targets.

"You didn't just walk up to the targets and hammer the arrows into
the middle, did you?" asks the duke worriedly.

"No my lord. I shot them from 100 paces.

"That is truly astonishing," says the duke. "I hereby admit you into
my service. But I must ask one favour in return. You must tell me
how you came to be such an outstanding shot."

"Well," said the boy, "first I fire the arrow at the tree, and then I
paint the target around it."

It was the end of the day when a cop parked his police van in front of the
station. As he gathered his equipment, his K-9 partner was barking and he
saw a little boy staring in at him.
"Is that a dog you got back there?" he asked.
"It sure is," he replied.
Puzzled, the boy looked at him and then towards the back of the van.
Finally he said, "What'd he do?"
