Instead of crocheting in the entire stitch which is both loops on the top of the stitch... you only catch or go through one of the loops when you do each stitch.
The back loop (bl) is the loop farthest from you.

Subject: Wide_Mouth_Jar_Lid_Cover
Hi
I love the pattern but my finished product only measured 5" and didn't fit the lid.
What did I do wrong.
I do crochet tight could that have done it?
R.

Achieving a different size only means your tension is different than mine.
My cover measured 6” in diameter. You can increase your hook size in order to
get a larger cover; OR, see if your cover fits the standard jar lid size.

Can you help me make an R plz
Erica Hamilton

Since this is a "freeform" style of crochet, everyone will make their letters differently. A fairly simple way to add the letter "R" would be to make a stencil. Pin the stencil in the position where you want the letter and crochet inside the stencil as I did on the video.

RE: Question
First of all, I have been a subscriber for quite a while and I love all the patterns and assistance you provide and most especially the Bible verses!!
I have a question that I've seen addressed on different sites, and perhaps even yours, but I don't remember the answer. If I buy a copyrighted pattern from you or anyone else, am I allowed to make that item and sell the finished product?
Thank you for everything you do!
God bless you and your family,
Tammy

Turn. sl st into each of the 1st two spaces. sl st into the space between the next two dc posts (you will be in the center of the 4dc cluster, with 2dc on either side). Ch2 and 3dc in same st. *1dc in space before the next cluster. 4dc in space between the 4 posts of next cluster. Repeat from *

I believe I have located the pattern from which your instructions came:
http://cre8tioncrochet.com/2013/06/vintage-crochet-collar/
The instructions are a bit confusing.
Try this:
turn
slip stitch into each of the first two "stitches"
slip stitch in between the posts of the two center stitches on that 4 stitch group
chain 2
work 3 double crochets in the same stitch
*
work 1 double crochet in the open space between the two 4dc groups
work 4 double crochets in the space between the two center stitches of the next 4dc group
Now repeat from *
Let me know how that works :)

The Incident - True story about how God works
This is about my Father In Law, James Hamblin.
We asked for and received prayer from many of our crochet family after his accident and during his recovery process. For those who do not know, James fell in October causing multiple injuries which took months to overcome. He is home now and doing well.
This is his story!
If you don't believe in miracles,
read this, it will change your mind!

"Laughter is an instant vacation." - Milton Berle

Humor provides us with a valuable tool for
maintaining an inner strength in the midst
of outer turmoil. - Brian Deery
I love playing Santa at the mall. But parents often have trouble getting young children to sit on my knee.
It took a lot of coaxing for one little girl to perch there, so I got straight to the point. "What do you
want most of all for Christmas?" I asked.
She answered, "Down!"
"Can you tell me who made you?" the pastor asked the small
boy.
The youngster thought a moment. Then he looked up at the
pastor and said, "God made part of me."
"What do you mean, part of you?" asked the pastor.
"Well," answered the boy, "God made me little. I grew the
rest myself."
A friend of mine recently went on a trip and had to stop at
a rest area on the Interstate. She took her keys, left her
purse and cell phone in her car, and went to the restroom.
When she returned, her remote wouldn't unlock the door and
she panicked. "What am I going to do? My cell phone is still
in the car and I can't call Onstar!"
Another traveler nearby overhearing this asked, "Have you
tried the key?"
Walking through the hallways at the middle school where
I work, I saw a new substitute teacher standing outside
his classroom with his forehead against a locker.
I heard him mutter, "How did you get yourself into this?"
Knowing that he was assigned to a difficult class, I
tried to offer moral support.
"Are you okay?" I asked. "Can I help?"
He lifted his head and replied, "I'll be fine as soon as
I get this kid out of his locker."
Today, in the cutest voice, my 8-year-old daughter asked me to
start recycling.
I chuckled and asked, "Why?"
She replied, "So you can help me save the planet."
I chuckled again and asked, "And why do you want to save the planet?"
"Because that's where I keep all my stuff," she said.
I remember my dad was shopping in a toy store. He said, "That's
a terrific train set. I'll buy it."
The Clerk said, "Great, I'm sure your son will love it."
Dad said, "Maybe you're right. I'll take two."
A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like.
"We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods."
The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in.
At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"
Two children ordered their mother to stay in bed one
Mother's Day morning. As she lay there looking forward
to breakfast in bed, the smell of bacon floated up from
the kitchen.
But after a good long wait she finally went downstairs
to investigate. She found them both sitting at the table
eating bacon and eggs.
"It's a surprise for Mother's Day," one explained, "we
decided to cook our own breakfast."
One Saturday in late winter, my six-year-old twin boys
decided that they wanted to make some money and asked
if they could go and shovel our neighbour's driveway.
My neighbour called me later to say that my cleaning
crew had done an amazing job clearing her driveway.
She paid them each a dollar to be spent at the dollar
store but they told her that it wasn't enough money.
They each needed another 14 cents for tax!
One stormy spring morning an obviously anxious mother
called the school office to ask if her son's bus had
gotten there safely.
She was asked, "What is your son's name and what grade
is he in?"
A giggle followed a pause. "Oh, my son's not a student.
He's the bus driver."
The loaded mini-van pulled into a campsite. Four children leaped from the vehicle and began feverishly unloading gear and setting up the tent. The boys rushed to gather firewood, while the girls and their mother set up the camp stove and cooking utensils.
A nearby camper marveled to the youngsters' father, "That, sir, is some display of teamwork."
The father replied, "I have a system: no one goes to the bathroom until the camp is set up."
At the beginning of the school year, I asked my Grade 2
students to write about something exciting they did that
summer, then to draw a picture to illustrate it.
One student proudly presented his account of a ride on
a roller coaster, but he had not drawn a picture.
When I asked why he hadn't done this, he declared, "I
couldn't: I didn't see anything because my eyes were
closed."
