WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Through Him then, let us continuallly offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. And do not neglect doing good and sharing; for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Hebrews 13:15-16

For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you, and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

Ephesians 1:15-17

Surely the righteous wil give thanks to Thy name; the upright will dwell in Thy presense.

Psalm 140:13

In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

"SERVING OTHERS IS A WAY OF THANKING GOD. "

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

RIGHT SIDE / WRONG SIDE

When needed, each individual crochet pattern should
specify which row is right or wrong side.

Right side and wrong side are referred to in patterns because the stitches
look different on one side than the other. Most times if a pattern says to
mark a certain row as "right side" then the instructions will tell you to
work other directions later in the pattern with the "right side facing" or
something to that effect. Anytime you encounter a pattern that says to mark
a row as right side all you need to do is tie a piece of yarn in a
contrasting color to that row on the side facing you. Then watch for right
side to be mentioned again in the pattern.

In a project using Rows where the first row is worked into the foundation
chain... if the pattern says that Row 1 (or any other odd numbered row) is
the "right side", then your beginning yarn tail should be on the left. If
an even numbered row is the right side then the beginning yarn tail should
be on the right.

CROCHET TIP:

Use cotton yarn for potholders and hotpads.
Acrylics and some other fibers may burn when used for something hot.

WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF STITCHES TO FEATURE!
If you have a stitch or tip you'd like to see here
drop us a line and include "STITCH/TIP" as the subject.

Please include your name and/or state of residence if you'd like to be recognized for your submission.

RE: Christmas Stocking

I have a friend who has been looking for a pattern to crochet a Christmas stocking. I found your web site. Thank you for the free pattern. Janet

Thank-you, Lisa. I was wondering: do you write these patterns yourself? I
mean do you make them up? That is pretty neat if you do. Thank-you for all
the work you do to keep up the site and all that goes into it. God bless.
Emmy

<< reply >>

Dear Emmy:

You're very welcome.
Yes, I design my own patterns.
However, all of the patterns featured on the CNM Website
are not my own. Some are contributed by other crocheters.
Each pattern states who the designer is.
Thanks for asking.

Lisa

Hello Lisa, just wanted to say that I am thrilled to receive this
newsletter, I love both crocheting and the Lord..keep up the good work. The
prayer list is great thing-prayer works. My 8 year old daughter and I have
been praying for some of the people listed.
God Bless you

RE: Broomstick Square

Hi, Lisa. The only thing you left out was to tell the worker to put a twist into the stitches as you take them off the broomstick or large knitting pin. You put the twist in from left to right, tho, so maybe the readers will know to twist the stitches as they come off the knitting pin or broomstick. Frances

<< REPLY >>

Hi Frances:

When I started to change the instructions to indicate a twist in the loops
I realized I needed to specify that each group of loops be twisted in the
same direction. You can see the change here:
http://www.crochetnmore.com/broomsticksquare.htm

Thanks for pointing out my error!

I recently made the doggie sweater for my friends dog using your pattern,
it came out very cute! And it was so simple to make.
I am a big fan of your patterns and your website. I visit often.
Have a good day and thank you so much again,
best of luck with your businesses, you are an inspiration :)
sincerely Naida

RE: Cross Lapel Pin

I have enjoyed making your little crosses. I like to read and decided they would make cute bookmarks. I just continued a chain at the end of the sc stitches and added a bead at the end of the chain. I am sending them with Christmas cards this year. Thanks for an enjoyable pattern.....
Irene Rauch

Could you please E-mail me a copy of the pattern for the santa hat that go with the santa sweater. Thanks Sylvia

<< reply >>

You can find the pattern on this page:

I love all the patterns you have, just seeing them makes me want to understand crocheting more.
I look forward to coming back with more questions.

Erica

I am very thankful for a site like yours to help people like me who
can do basic crochet, but who cannot read the intructions...

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews

My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6
years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom.
On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol
crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my
own edging. My other pet peeve
is an
error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you
can't even begin!

What's your pet peeve?

HUMOR

Photographic Memory

A teen-aged boy with spiked hair, nose ring, and baggy clothes
was overheard telling a friend, "I don't really like to dress
like this, but it keeps my parents from dragging me everywhere
with them."

A father noticed that his son was spending way too much time playing
computer games.

In an effort to motivate the boy into focusing more attention on his
schoolwork, the father said to his son, "When Abe Lincoln was your age, he
was studying books by the light of the fireplace."

The son replied, "When Lincoln was your age, he was The President of The
United States."

When I went to get my driver's license renewed, our local

motor-vehicle bureau was packed. The line inched along

for almost an hour until the man ahead of me finally got his

license. He inspected his photo for a moment and commented

to the clerk, "I was standing in line so long, I ended up

looking pretty grouchy in this picture."

Thewoman beside him peered over his shoulder, then

reassured him, "It's okay. That's how you're going to look

when the cops pull you over, anyway."

A young couple drove several miles down a country road,
not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an
argument, and neither wanted to concede their position.

As they passed a barnyard of mules and pigs, the husband
sarcastically asked, "Are they relatives of yours?"

"Yes," his wife replied. "I married into the family."

As the Father laid on the couch watching cable TV, his son,
all dressed for Church entered the room. "Dad ?" he said, "I
have a question."
"What's that boy ?" replied the Father, never even removing
his eyes from the screen.
"When am I going to be old enough not to go to Church
either?"

A flock of sheep are grazing in a field, happily going "baa baa" to each

other and discussing life as usual when suddenly they hear a "moo

mooooooooooooooooooo!" They look around and see only sheep. They carry

on grazing as before. "Moooooo mooooooooooo mmmoo!" One sheep can hear

it all too clearly next to him. He shuffles away a little from his

friend, a worried look on his face and then asks "George, why are you

mooing. You're a sheep. Sheep go "baa!" His friend replies gladly: " I

know,.. But for a New Year's Resolution thought I would learn a foreign

language!"

A man approached a local in a village he was visiting. "What's the

quickest way to York?"

The local scratched his head.

"Are you walking or driving?" he asked the stranger. "I'm driving."

"That's the quickest way!" said the yokel, wandering off.

On a recent flight I was on, this elderly woman kept peering out the

window. Since it was totally dark, all she could see was the blinking

wing tip light. Finally, she rang for the steward.

"I'm sorry to bother you," she said, "but I think you should inform

the pilot that his left-turn indicator is on and has been for some time."
