Leave 4-6 inches of yarn
at the beginning and at the end of a project.
This will ensure you have enough yarn to weave back
through
your stitches to keep the piece from unravelling.

RE: How to Crochet - Two Strands Together
<< Comments >>
Is there a way to modify a pattern from 2 strands to one?
I would assume you could just use a smaller hook, but I don't know if there's some kind of easy trick to remember

You can modify any pattern that uses two strands by using only one strand and a smaller hook.
I recommend beginning with the size hook indicated on your yarn label.
Also, keep in mind that the overall size of the pattern will be affected.

Thank you so much. I couldn't figure out what the instructions were "suggesting."

Re: ReadAPattern
Could you explain what double crochet 3 together in same base stitch means? I'm making shorts
Marie Purcell
<< Reply >>
This pattern language is a bit confusing.
To work into the same base stitch is essentially the same as saying "into the same stitch".
To double crochet 3 together means you work
I believe the designer wants you to work three double crochet stitches into the same stitch. This pattern language is a bit confusing.
To work into the same base stitch is essentially the same as saying "into the same stitch".
I believe the designer wants you to work three double crochet stitches into the same stitch because
"double crochet 3 together" means decreasing three double crochet stitches into one over three different stitches.

Wow…thanks for the video. That makes much more sense. I think by watching your video I should be able to make it.
Since it has the pattern on graph paper I don’t think I will need to type out the rows on paper. I can’t wait to get started.
Thanks so much! Have a great day

Re: ReadAPattern
I would like to do the row count Christmas tree but do not understand the instructions I know how to read the pattern but do not understand if I carry the cc color across the back, pick up color and work stitches and then drop and pick up mc or what. Can you answer the question for me so that I may get started on my project. I think after I get them completed I will add colored beads so that it looks like ornaments.

The colored beads as ornaments is a wonderful embellishment idea!
Our video for the Row Count Purple Heart Coaster pattern shows how I
do color changes:
Color changes are the same in all of my row count patterns.
I never cut a color until I finish with it.
I carry the unused color along the top of the stitches to the point where I will need it again for
the next row, then drop it so I can pick it up on the way back.
I would love to see a photo of your finished square.
Here are a couple of other patterns you might enjoy for Christmas:

Re: Baby_Vest
can you please give me instructions for a 6-9-12 month old baby girl. I need the pattern for sleeveless vest.
Thanks

I’m sorry I do not have instructions for different sizes of the vest pattern.
However, you can find a nice vest pattern on this page:
http://www.pattern-knit.com/childs-hoodie-vest-pattern.htm
You can add the hood portion or leave it plain.

The Incident - True story about how God works
This is about my Father In Law, James Hamblin.
We asked for and received prayer from many of our crochet family after his accident and during his recovery process. For those who do not know, James fell in October causing multiple injuries which took months to overcome. He is home now and doing well.

"Laughter is an instant vacation." - Milton Berle

Humor provides us with a valuable tool for
maintaining an inner strength in the midst
of outer turmoil. - Brian Deery
Mom was reading her son a bedtime story
when the son said "Snow White was
poisoned by an apple, Jack found a giant
in his beanstalk, and look what happened
to Alice when she ate the mushroom!
And you ask, why I won't eat my fruits
and vegetables!?"
At the company water cooler, I bragged about my children's world travels: one son was teaching in Bolivia, another was working in southern Italy, and my daughter was completing a yearlong research project in India.
One co-worker's quip, however, stopped me short. "What is it about you," he asked, "that makes your kids want to get so far away?"
A new minister was talking to the oldest member of his congregation.
"I am 95 years old, sir, and I haven't an enemy in the world," said
the aged one.
"That is a beautiful thought," said the clergyman approvingly.
"Yes sir," was the answer. "I'm thankful to say that I've outlived
them all."
If I say so myself, I looked pretty brawny in my Navy summer
whites. And as I stood in line at the Long Beach Naval Hospital
pharmacy, I wasn't the only one who thought so -- a young boy
kept staring at my arms.
Eventually, he whispered something to his mother, who, in turn,
leaned over to me. "My son wants to know," she said, "if you
have a can of spinach in your shirt."
My sister's youngest boy liked nothing better than to sit
on his grandfather's knee and have stories read to him.
One day after a story about Noah's ark, and how Noah led
pairs of animals to the safety of the ark the little boy
asked, "Granddad, you are very old, were you in Noah's
ark?"
"Gosh no", said Granddad.
"In that case, how come you didn't drown when the flood
came?"
On a crisp fall afternoon, my four-year-old son was helping
rake leaves in the front yard of our farmhouse. I glanced up
just in time to see a flock of geese flying over and pointed
out how they flew in a formation shaped like a V.
He patiently watched them as they disappeared over the horizon
and then turning to me and asked, "Do they know any other
letters?"
An engineer, a psychologist, and a theologian were hunting in the wilderness of northern Canada. Suddenly, the temperature dropped and a serious snowstorm was upon them. They came across an isolated cabin, far removed from any town. The hunters had heard that the locals in the area were quite hospitable, so they knocked
on the door to ask permission to rest. No one answered their knocks, but they discovered the cabin was unlocked and they entered. It was a simple place - 2 rooms with a minimum of furniture and household equipment. Nothing was unusual about
the cabin except the stove. It was large, potbellied, and made of cast iron. What was strange about it was its location - it was suspended in midair by wires attached to the ceiling beams.
"Fascinating," said the psychologist. "It is obvious that this lonely trapper, isolated from humanity, has elevated this stove so that he can curl up under it and vicariously experience a return to the womb."
"Nonsense!" replied the engineer. "The man is practicing the laws of thermodynamics. By elevating his stove, he has discovered a way to distribute heat more evenly throughout the cabin."
“With all due respect," interrupted the theologian, "I'm sure that hanging his stove from the ceiling has religious meaning. Fire LIFTED UP has been a religious symbol for centuries."
The three debated the point for several hours without resolving the issue. When the trapper finally returned, they immediately asked him why he had hung his heavy potbellied stove from the ceiling. His answer was succinct. "Had plenty of wire, not much stove pipe."
While at the supermarket this weekend, I came across
two women talking in the aisle I was going down.
"Harry and I have been together ten years now and
he makes me very happy," one said. "So I don't mind
buying him what he likes even if it is a little more
expensive."
"Well, with my Benny I have no choice. He's just plain fussy," her friend replied.
As I passed by their carts I discovered both women were loading their shopping carts with high-quality cat food.
Rushing to work, I was driving too fast and as
a result was pulled over by the highway patrol.
The state trooper noticed that my shirt had the
name of a local high school on it.
"I teach math there," I explained.
The trooper smiled, and said, "Okay, here's a problem.
A teacher is speeding down the highway at 16 m.p.h.
over the limit. At $12 for every mile, plus $40 court
costs, plus the rise in her insurance, what's her total
cost?"
I replied, "Taking that total, subtracting the low
salary I receive, multiplying by the number of kids who
hate math, then adding to that the fact that none of
us would be anywhere without teachers, I'd say zero."
He handed me back my license. "Math was never my favorite
subject," he admitted. "Please slow down."
Little Rodney, 4 years old, walked down the beach, and as he did, he spied a matronly
woman sitting under a beach umbrella on the sand. He walked up to her and asked, "Are you a Christian?"
"Yes," she replied.
"Do you read your Bible every day?"
She nodded her head, "Yes."
"Do you pray often?" the boy asked next, and again she answered, "Yes."
With that he asked his final question, "Will you hold my quarter while I go swimming?"
A man went grocery shopping with his son. They had the cart, they had the list...
Then the father whispered to the child, "You know, if we really mess this up, we'll never have to do it again."
A father was reading the Bible to his little girl before
bedtime one night. He was on the first chapter of Genesis.
"In the beginning, the world was without form and void," the father read.
"And God said, 'Let there be light.'
And God separated the light from the dark."
"I know what happens next!" the little girl exclaimed excitedly.
"What happens next?" asked the father, smiling.
The girl replied, "God did two loads of laundry.
