When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say
"Jesus, could you please get that for me?"
A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but the slow to anger pacifies contention.
Proverbs 15:18
Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it than a house full of feasting with strife. A servant who acts wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully and will share in the inheritance among brothers.
Proverbs 17:1-2
Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions. On the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks understanding.

BLOCKING
You can steam block afghan squares by placing a cloth over the square and steaming it with an iron. Do not press it... just work with the steam and then let the square lay flat until it cools. Be sure to use a cloth between the iron and the inished piece and be extra careful if you decide to block "acrylic" yarn items as it could melt if overheated. Some people block by just steaming
over the piece without actually touching the iron to the project but if you decide to actually press the iron onto your project I suggest testing a scrap swatch first.
You can find more information about blocking on the following pages:

CROCHET TIP:
VIEWER TIP - JOINING A NEW SKEIN
Submitted by Kathleen Graff
When I tie on a new color I always tie a knot (not recommended by most
crocheters as it leaves a little bump in your work) and then I weave in the
old color by working it back into the stitches of the same color. You can
crochet right over the ends of the yarn tails if they are both the same
color. If not, crochet over the tail of the color you are working with and
then use a different weaving method to weave in the old color that you just
fastened off.
You can weave the old color in with a crochet hook or a yarn needle. The
yarn needle is quicker and you can weave the strand in without disturbing
the stitches.
Here's a page that might help:

As for how to change colors... this page is helpful:

RE: Can Cozy
Thank-you for the nice pattern. I have made several of these. I work the
bottom and 2 rows in navy, 2 rows in white and 2 rows in red. Looks very
patriotic. I use one on my can of soda at work and at least once a week
someone notices it and makes a favorable comment. Thank-you, Nancy
Schultz

I just finished browsing your website and ended up reading one of your newsletters. I was pleasantly surprised when the Bible scriptures etc. were quoted from Our Daily Bread. I receive this booklet every month and I truly enjoy reading it. It also told me that you are a Christian website and not afraid to acknowledge our dear Lord and Savior. This is the reason I want to receive your newsletter. Keep up the good work. I tried some other websites and was so disappointed and I came back to y ours. I won't be surfing any more. You have what I want. Thanks for the lovely free patterns. I'm 72 and have been crocheting since i was a young girl. I'm also house bound most of the time due to a chronic illness, so it is a pleasure to be able to get your free patterns. God Bless you and yours....................................Alberta Grandt
Thank-you for the free patterns, I am teaching my 11 year old daughter to crochet and found some items I think will be easy for her to learn and use as gifts for her friends!
Appreciate your time and your site!
Thanks! Lynn
Thank you for your site. I have tried many times to learn to crochet and have never been able to understand the directions in the how to books. I am working on making an afghan and have successfully completed five squares, and they look like the picture. Only problem is how do I join them up so they don't get all bunched up? Any hints. I am using the pattern that is called square for afghan or table cloth.

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews
My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6 years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom. On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my own edging. My other pet peeve
is an error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you can't even begin!

A woman realizes her son has not yet gotten out of bed for
school.
She goes into his bedroom and tells him to get up or he will
miss breakfast.
"No," the son replies. "I don't wanna go to school!"
"You HAVE to go to school," the mother scolds.
"No! The kids are mean to me, the teachers don't like me, and
the lunches are icky."
"You WILL go to school, young man," the mother warns.
"Why? Why do I have to go to school today?" the son asks.
The mother is about to lose her patience.
"Because you're the principal, now get out of bed!"
"I'm sorry," said the clerk in flower shop, "we don't have potted geraniums.
Could you use African violets instead?"
Replied the customer sadly, "No, it was geraniums my wife told me to water
while she was gone."
Deciding to eat healthier breakfasts, my brother-in-law declared that oatmeal would now be his cereal of choice.
But after eating his first bowl, he told my sister, "I hope I develop a taste for the stuff. It goes down real rough."
"Well," she asked, "how long did you cook it?"
"You're supposed to cook it?" he said.
We had built our dream house some years ago, and furnished it with quality pieces as we could afford them. Now the delivery truck carrying the last purchase, a new bedroom suite, was pulling into the driveway.
"Finally!" I exclaimed, flinging open the front door as the driver walked up to the house. "I've been waiting twelve years for this!"
"Don't blame me, lady," he said. "I just got the order this morning."
I was working as a short-order cook at two restaurants in the same neighborhood. On a Saturday night, I was finishing up the dinner shift at one restaurant and hurrying to report to work at the second place, but I was delayed because one table kept sending back an order of hash browns, insisting they were cold. I replaced them several times, but still the customers were dissatisfied.
When I was able to leave, I raced out the door and arrived at my second job. A server immediately handed me my first order.
"Make sure these hash browns are hot," she said, "because these people just left a restaurant down the street that kept serving them cold ones."
A porter loaded down with suitcases followed the couple to the airline
check-in counter.
As they approached the line, the husband glanced at the pile of luggage and
said to the wife, "Why didn't you bring the piano, too?"
"Are you trying to be funny?" she replied.
"No, I really wish you had" he sighed. "I left the tickets on it."
The farmer's son was returning from the market with a crate of chickens his
father had entrusted to him, when all of a sudden the box fell and broke
open.
Chickens scurried off in different directions, but the determined boy
walked all over the neighborhood scooping up the wayward birds and returning
them to the repaired crate. Hoping he had found them all, the boy
reluctantly returned home, expecting the worst.
"Pa, the chickens got loose," the boy confessed sadly, "but I managed to
find all twelve of them."
"Well, you done a good job, son," the farmer beamed.
"You left with seven."
Unable to attend the funeral after his Uncle Charlie died, a man who lived
far away called his brother and told him, "Do something nice for Uncle
Charlie and send me the bill."
Later, he got a bill for $200.00, which he paid. The next month, he got
another bill for $200.00, which he also paid, figuring it was some
incidental expense.
But, when the bills for $200.00 kept arriving every month, he finally called
his brother again to find out what was going on.
"Well," said the other brother, "You said to do something nice for Uncle
Charlie. So I rented him a tuxedo."
