RE: I have a question.
I have been referencing your blog Crochet Basics and I have a question for you. I don't know if you have it on the site and I just missed it, but I would like to know what working around the chain means. I am doing a pattern I found and am stuck because I don't know what exactly this means. I am considered a beginner. Could you please help me? Thank you for your time, Joshlin
<< reply >>
This is the same as working on the opposite side of a chain.
Working on the opposite
side of a foundation chain is normally done when crocheting an oval shape. The
first row is done and then in the last chain you work more stitches to make
the piece begin an oval shape and continue working back down the chain opposite
the stitches you already made.
Does that make sense? Is your pattern online?
Subject: pattern question
Hello, I really hate to bother you but I have a question about the Baby's ABC's pattern you have on your web site. I absolutely love the afghan and actually started it this past weekend but for some reason I'm having major problems. Is there a row of single crochet between the puff stitch rows? Another problem Im having....it seems my X and Z are switched around. lol. I have no idea what Im doing wrong. I crochet a lot but this pattern is really giving me grief!!! Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Have a great day!
<< reply >>
Once you figure out the
graph this is a super easy pattern.
It just takes lots of concentration. I'm actually this same pattern right now
in blue.
This page may help in regard
to reading graphs:
http://www.crochetnmore.com/chartcrochet.htm
Read All Odd Rows from right
to left.
Read All Even Rows from left to right.
The puff stitches are only worked when there is a dot on the graph and all puff
stitches are worked from the wrong side of the work on even rows. When you finish
each puff stitch it will be on the side away from you. When you start the first
row of letters... the X is worked first. You continue reading the graph back
and forth to form the letters.
One hint: count, count,
count your stitches.
It takes some practice and believe me you'll rip out a few stitches but you'll
get the hang of it.
Subject: CARD HOLDER
Hi Lisa,
Could I use sport yarn on
your card holder pattern?
I want to make it to carry some of my Bible verses.
Thanks, Geneva
<< reply >>
I think sport weight yarn would work okay... keep in mind that a change in yarn along with your personal crochet tension can possibly change the size of a pattern.
This card holder is an easy pattern to judge though... work Row 1 and if it is a little wider than what you want to insert in it then your choice of yarn and hook should work fine.
Also, if your yarn and the hook size called for in the pattern yields Row 1 to be too short... you can increase your hook size to make it bigger.
RE: Adult_Bib
Thank you so much for this
pattern. I have been looking for a pattern like this for 6 months.

Re: crochet question
I got this pattern for gloves and here's a snippet:
Crochet tip: Replace first dc on each row with 3 ch. Finish each row with 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round.
Decreasing tip: Work 1 dc but wait with the last pull-through (= 2 sts on hook), work the next dc and now pull thread through all 3 sts on hook = 1 dc dec.
GLOVE
Worked from top down, i.e. crochet all the fingers first, and then continue
with the hand. Little finger: Crochet 4 ch with Alpaca and crochet hook size
3 mm [C] and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. Work 8-10-10 dc in ring -
see Crochet tip. Continue in the round with 1 dc in each dc until finger measures
5-6-7 cm [2"-2 3/8"-2-3/4"]. Remember the crochet gauge! Cut
the thread and put piece aside.
The highlighted bit is where
I got completely stuck! Can you help? It's from the Drops website-

Regards, Tegan
<< reply >>
That is a reference to how many stitches to do for each specific size. If you are making small gloves you work 8 double crochets in the ring. For medium or large you work 10. Does that make sense?
Keep in mind that other language in this pattern that is hyphenated is for a size reference also.
<< Tegan's reply >>
Yes! So easy I don't know why I didn't see that. Thank you

This book is a wonderful
addition to any crochet library.
I've had numerous requests over the years of what to crochet for boys.
Crobots are definitely the answer!
This 96-page book is filled with numerous types of Crobot patterns as well as
well-illustrated instructions for the crochet stitches, assembly stitches and
other embellishments used in the patterns. The patterns are well written, some
of the book is written in a small font but the pictures are wonderful.
NOTE: This book comes to you with a safety warning regarding the small parts used in the patterns. Therefore, please use your own discretion as to the age of the child you intend the gift for.

I have to tell you about this new book.
SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet
I'm so happy to have it in my crochet library.
Katherine Lee has an eye for style and a definite knack for creating beautiful
crochet patterns.
I was really happy with the large colorful project photos.
There's something for everyone!
The aspect of Fabulous and Flirty Crochet that stood out to me was the section
on the yarns used in the patterns.
One page shows "actual size" photos of the yarns which makes it super
easy to substitute other yarns if you want to.
For those who stay strictly to the recommended yarn in a pattern Katherine has
included a yarn resource list.
The projects are very fashionable and perfect for gift giving... though I'm
sure you'll have to make something for yourself :o)
I can't wait to try the Flirty Skirt and the Ruffled Strap Tank.

The cardiologist's diet: - If it tastes good spit it out.
The exasperated help-line caller said she couldn't get her new Dell computer to turn on. A Dell computer Corporation technician had the woman verify that the computer was plugged in. He then asked the woman what happened when she pressed the power button.
"I've pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and nothing happens," the woman replied.
"Foot pedal?" the technician asked.
"Yes," the woman said, "this little grey pedal with the cable."
The "foot pedal," it turned out, was the computer's mouse.
On their 50th wedding anniversary, a couple summed up the reason for their long and happy marriage.
The husband said, "I have tried never to be selfish. After all, there is no I in the word marriage."
The wife said, "For my part, I have never corrected my husband's spelling."

The pastor explained that the Gospels do not tell us what He said.

"What!" shouted the boss? "I can't give you more time now. Why didn't you get married while you were off?"
"Are you nuts?" he replied. "That would have ruined my whole vacation."
There were only two cars at the end of my exit ramp, but no one was moving. Clearly the first driver was too timid to blend into the flow of traffic. Opportunity after opportunity passed her by, and cars piled up on the ramp. Finally, the driver moved, spurred by an exasperated motorist at the end of the line, who yelled, "The sign says yield, not surrender!"

An applicant was being interviewed for admission to a prominent medical school. "Tell me," inquired the interviewer, "where do you expect to be ten years from now?"
"Well, let's see," replied the student. "It's Wednesday afternoon. I guess I'll be on the golf course by now."
A young man came home from the office and found his bride sobbing convulsively. "I feel terrible," she told him. "I was pressing your suit and I burned a big hole in the seat of your trousers."
"Forget it," consoled her husband. "Remember that I've got an extra pair of pants for that suit."
"Yes, and it's lucky you have," said the woman, drying her eyes. "I used them to patch the hole."
