WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Proverbs 22:6

We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.

John 9:31

Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord will hear when I call to him.

Psalm 4:3

Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:4

"A CHILD IS LIKELY TO SEE GOD AS A GOOD FATHER IF HE SEES GOD IN HIS FATHER."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - May, 2002 Issue.

Introducing the MA's Craft Caddy

A sturdy good looking work-storage station for your crocheting and other needle working needs as well as other hobbies and crafts... all the way to a fly tying station.
Check us out at slevinenterprises.com
The answer to your organizing and work place needs.

TESTIMONIAL:
I've used Ma's Craft Caddy for about 2 months now. I organized
my crochet supplies for a while but found the caddy to be too heavy for me to
move around very much but as a stationary work center it's great!
So I decided to use Ma's Craft Caddy to organize
my daughter's ever growing collection of craft supplies.
She has one of the old fashion school desks sitting beside the craft caddy
which allows her easy access to anything she needs for her current
craft project. We used the rod to hang her tape and she loves it!
Before Ma's Craft Caddy she had all of her craft supplies in a
plastic tote and couldn't ever find what she needed without pouring
everything out. Now she can access her tape, paper or glue at in no time
and she loves it! ..............Lisa Hamblin

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

Chart Crochet

This technique courtesy of Lori

Using a chart (or graph) to crochet by can be a bit confusing. With my
first chart I used I think I ripped out about 4-5 rows because I wasn't
comfortable with following a graph or chart instead of a regular pattern.

The biggest thing to remember is to pay close attention to which way you are
going on the chart. You can do this by marking your rows as you go.
Placing arrows or symbols beside each row is a big help.

For example (in the case of a right handed crocheter) ... place an "R"
beside all rows that are the right side of the project and an "W" beside all
wrong side rows. This will help you remember which direction you are going.
When reading the chart you would read all right side rows (marked with "R")
right to left and read all of the wrong side rows (marked with "L") from
left to right.

Other than this, check off the rows as you go just as in a regular pattern.

The following page offers hints on changing colors. It also has tips on
how to carry old colors through as you add new colors:
http://crochet.about.com/hobbies/crochet/library/weekly/aa072697.htm

If your graph calls for strictly single crochet stitches this page may prove helpful:
http://iweb.tntech.edu/cventura/rightstitches.html

Don't be scared to try a crochet pattern that is mostly a graph... it's really alot
easier than you may think .

CROCHET TIP:

If you want to use one of the rubber type cushions for your steel hook handle, don't make the mistake I did with my very first one! I ended up putting my #7 steel hook right through the palm of my hand because I didn't read the label for how to get the cushion onto my hook. I just bought a new cushion for my #1 steel hook and I put a drop of dish soap on the tip of the hook like the label said before trying to insert it into the cushion... that silly cushion slid right into place. It sure would've been easier to do that with the first one... those hooks don't come out of your palm very easily :o)

I love all your creative isdeas, great sight. Keep up the good work...

Dear Lisa,
Just wanted you to know I am back to crocheting after a couple little set backs. I have finished the doll dress and it came out really cute! The size is perfect and it looks just fine. I made it in a bright orange (as I already had enough thread that color). Also, I am making the "sister" doll a bright green one. I am about halfway through with it. It has been a lot of fun and I will probably do the same pattern in a baby yarn - maybe make them different lengths. I made the first ones long and dressy looking. I may even get creative and try making the skirt a little fuller on the next ones. Wow, I can't believe I am thinking about getting creative! It will be fun to try. Thanks so much for your help!

Pray for our Colorado friends who are having problems with the fires. I have a niece who had to be evacuated. My son and family live near DIA and have only had the smoke problem. Several people I know are having to evacuate, but no losses so far. Thanks for your prayers.
Sincerely, Joan

I love this site! As a matter of fact I love Lisa too, she happens to be my best friend! Just wanted to drop a line to say how great she is and how hard she works to help everyone. She taught me to read a pattern and now I can crochet just about anything I want. Thank you for all your hard work. God Bless you!
Heather

Just love this site! I really enjoyed the page about little Andrew.....Praise God for the miracle of him! I don't get much time to crochet with 5 kids between the ages of 16 and 6 but when I do I like to work on the easy, quick things like hair scrunchies, doilies, etc. Since I have 4 girls all with waist length hair the scrunchie patterns will become my favorites for now. Thank you for the awesome patterns!
God bless you!
Cynthia

Wonderful to accidently come across a Christian website, there are far too few of them.
Looking for warm slippers patterns for adults, especially men's.
God bless you, keep up this terrific website.

Since I have moved to Florida back in 1991 after my husband's death. Florida has very little crochet patterns so when I was blessed with my new computer I decided to go on line to fine some crochet patterns I sure do enjoy this web site. I crochet alot of bed dolls, afagans, and odds and ends. When I pick up the hook I think of my husband when he taught me to crochet when we lived in Colorado in 1972. He blessed me with a great hobby.
Sheila

I just love the quantity and quality of your patterns! I've bookmarked your site and will certainly be returning. Note to other visitors who may have skipped the "Jesus/Savior" page: Please go back and really look...you will be so glad that you did. This is for real.

Hi. Just had to tell you that I like this design for the dogs. I have 3 german shorthaired pointers and I am always trying to find something that will be comfortable for them to wear in the winter when they are playing outside. The store bought ones never seem to fit well, because they all have big chests but skinny legs. I think this design will work for me I just have to experiment on making it larger.

Just wanted to send a note of thanks.

Linda C.

p.s. I forgot to mention that my oldest pointer is a female named "Schatzi"

Ballerina

A kangaroo kept getting out of his enclosure at the zoo.

Knowing that he could hop pretty high, the zoo officials put up a ten-foot
fence. However, the next morning the kangaroo was out again, just roaming
around the zoo.

The zoo officials raised the height of the fence to twenty feet. Again,
however, the next morning the kangaroo was again roaming around the zoo.

This kept on, night after night, until the fence was sixty feet high.
Finally, the camel in the next enclosure asked the kangaroo, "How high do
you think they'll go?"

The kangaroo replied, "Probably a hundred feet, unless somebody starts
locking the gate at night!!"

After a lady's car had leaked motor oil on her cement driveway, she bought a
large bag of cat litter to soak it up.

It worked so well, that she went back to the convenience store to get
another bag to finish the job.

Remembering her, the clerk remarked,

"Lady, if that were my cat, I'd put him outside!"

The strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could out
do anyone in a feat of strength.

He made a special case of making fun of one of the older workmen.

After several minutes, the older worker had had enough.

"Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?" he said.

"I will bet a week's wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over
to that building that you won't be able to wheel back."

"You're on, old man," the young guy replied.

The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles.

Then he turned to the young man and said, "Alright. Get in."

A college senior took his new girlfriend to a football game.

The young couple found seats in the crowded stadium and was watching the
action. A substitute was put into the game, and as he was running onto the
field to take his position, the boy said to his girlfriend, "Take a good
look at the fellow. I expect him to be our best man next year."

His girlfriend snuggled closer and said to the surprised young man, "That's
the strangest way I ever heard of for a fellow to propose to a girl.
Regardless of how you said it, I accept!"

COLLEGE: The four-year period when parents are permitted access to the
telephone.

OPERA: When a guy gets stabbed in the back and instead of bleeding he sings.

BUFFET: A French word that means "Get up and get it yourself."

BABY-SITTER: A teen-ager who must behave like an adult so that the adults
who are out can behave like teen-agers.

TRAFFIC LIGHT -- apparatus that automatically turns red when your car
approaches.

PIONEER -- early American who was lucky enough to find his way out of the
woods.

TATTOO: Permanent proof of temporary insanity.

One of my jobs at a bank is to answer the phones and put callers through to
the right person.

When a customer called one day asking to speak with a bank representative, I
said, "Of course, Sir. What is it about exactly?"

Dryly, he replied, "It's about money."

The New Lawyer...

Mike grew up in a small town, then moved away to attend college and law school.
Upon passing the bar, he decided to move back to the small town where he could
be a big fish in a little pond. He really wanted to impress everyone, so he opened
a beautiful new office. Unfortunately, business was slow and he had no telephones.

One day, he saw a man coming up the sidewalk to his office, and he decided to try
and make a big impression on his newest client. So as the man came up to the door,
Mike picked up the phone, motioned the man in, and barked into the phone,
"No. Absolutely not. You tell those clowns in New York that I won't settle this case for
less than $1 million. Yes. The appeals court has agreed to hear that case next week.
I'll be handling the primary argument, and the other members of my team will provide support.
Okay. Tell the DA that I'll meet with him next week to discuss the details."
This sort of thing went on for almost five minutes.
All the while, the man sat patiently while Joe rattled off instructions.

Finally, Mike put down the phone and turned to the man. "I'm sorry for the delay," he said,
"but as you can see, I'm very busy. Now, what can I do for you?"

"Sorry to catch you when you're busy," the man replied calmly,
"but I'm from the phone company, and I've come to hook up your phone."

The local sheriff was looking for a deputy, so Goober - who was not exactly
the sharpest nail in the bucket - went in to try out for the job.

"Okay," the sheriff drawled, "Goober, what is 1 and 1?"

"11" he replied.

The sheriff thought to himself, "That's not what I meant, but he's right."

"What two days of the week start with the letter 'T'?"

"Today and tomorrow."

He was again surprised that Goober supplied a correct answer that he had
never thought of himself.

"Now Goober, listen carefully: Who killed Abraham Lincoln?"

Goober looked a little surprised himself, then thought really hard for a
minute and finally admitted, "I don't know."

"Well, why don't you go home and work on that one for a while?"

So, Goober wandered over to the barbershop where his pals were waiting to
hear the results of the interview.

Goober was exultant. "It went great! First day on the job and I'm already
working on a murder case!"
