WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

We do not need a pulpit From which to speak God's Word;
It only takes our willingness
To share what we have heard. Sper

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.

Proverbs 3:1-2

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Phillipians. 2:13

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that no of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:8-10

But God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:28-29

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have compassion on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

Isaiah 55:6-7

"JESUS GAVE HIS ALL FOR US;
ARE WE GIVING OUR ALL FOR HIM?"

CROCHET TIP

Zippered bags that comforter sets come in make great yarn storage bags.
These are very sturdy because they are made with a heavy vinyl.
You can see through them and most have zippers and handles.

         ---------------

Question:
I have alot of trouble grasping the smaller metal crochet hooks - to do bookmarks etc. do they make anything that goes over them to improve the grip? i've been looking and haven't found a thing. thanks... Deb

Answer:
I have that same problem. I use the cushion grips. You can purchase them here: http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=82327&PRODID=47222&AID=10273743&PID=673727
I think I bought mine at Wal-Mart. I've heard some people mention they wrap regular rubber bands around the hook handle. Lisa

Hello
Your pattern looks really lovely and as I am to be a Grandma for the 11th time at the end of May I would love to make your Bootees. I am in the UK and was wondering if you could tell me the equivalent size needles to yours? Thank you and Best Wishes Jeannette

<< reply >>

Hi Jeannette:

Congratulations!
Babies are soo sweet!
Here's a conversion chart.
Are your hooks in metric? If so, an F hook is a 3.75 mm.
Here's a conversion chart that might help in the future:
http://home.teleport.com/~noelvn/cp/AlumPlasHook.html

Hope this helps.

Have just found your site, really great . I need alot of help ,so will be bookmarking for future.
Thanks Noreen

RE: EMMA'S BABY BOOTIES

The new patterns for Emma's baby booties and rattle are adorable... Only one thing... unless I overlooked it, there needs to be an estimated size on at least the booties. Do they fit a preemie, newborn, or older baby? estimated foot length? Otherwise everything looks great! Marla

<< reply >>

Hi Marla:
You didn't overlook it... I did :o) I've added to the pattern page that these fit a newborn with a foot size of approximately 3". Thanks for letting me know I left that out!
Lisa

RE: Dishcloth

LISA, I JUST WANTED TO THANK-YOU FOR SUCH AN EASY AND BEAUTIFUL PATTERN. IT WAS JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.................DIANE

Hi Lisa Have a quick question here on the Toothbrush Travel Pattern. In R2 what does bl mean? here's how it reads: R2: Sc in bl of ea hdc. It looks like a really fun and useful pattern and was going to give it a try. Thanks, Jeanne Tracy

< reply >

Hi Jeanne: BL is back loop. Each stitch has a front loop (the loop closest to you) and a back loop (the loop farthest from you). Work the stitches into the back loop. Does that make sense? Hope you enjoy the pattern.

< subsequent reply >

Hi Lisa, Thanks! You are the greatest, thanks thanks, thanks. Now that pattern will make sense.
I love your website and think it's great the way you let everyone be a part of it. thanks, thanks, thanks,
keep up the great work! and to make it even better you merge it with christianity, God Bless YOU!
thanks! Jeanne

Once again, exceptional newsletter!
And all of that scripture! WONDERFUL!!!!!!
Keep up the outstanding work!
I'm gonna work on typing up the pattern for that scarf...it's SO easy.
Just gotta DO IT! hahaha! Thank you!!!!!!!!!

RE: Crochet How to's Overload-LOL

Lisa:
I declare you've done it again.
I've been looking all week for a crochet hook conversion chart.
I've been buying some (new to me) crochet hooks lately and have gotten confused as to what brand is what size. Well, lo and behold, here come your charts, even with the Brittany. I just bought 2 Brittanys and only know they are the larger ones. Now I will know upon comparsion the equivilent of, say, a Boye hook. Also, I've been consider purchasing Encylopedia of Crocheting to use as a refresher reminder as I need it-well now I don't feel as tho I need to. What more could one want to know that's not in this last newsletter? I think I'm gonna need new ink cart. when I get thru printing all I plan to-LOL Tried to use note pad and it looked SO small. I went to MS and put a lot on there but it looks small too-will check out the printed sheets from it later. Many thanks for once more filling in the breach. You are so generous with your information. I am very impressed. I don't know how you do it. I have purchased a few patterns but it's been a while. Guess I better buy some more to do my part. I finally figured the voting thing out and voted for y'all this time and will continue to do so. Joyce in Abilene, TX

<< reply >>

Hi Joyce:
It's good to hear from you again.
Thank you so much for such a nice compliment!
I'm so glad the information I chose for my last newsletter was helpful to you.
I do my best to use the talents God has give me to help others.
Crocheting for me is so relaxing and I hope to pass on my knowledge to others as long as I can.
Have a great day and feel free to write anytime.

RE: Error in Dishcloth

No...there is no error. I just did not know any other way to contact you. I printed this pattern in July of 2000 but just got around to making the dishcloth today. I love it. Of all the dishcloths I have made over the years, this one has the best size, texture, and is the fastest I have ever made. I just wanted to say thanks. I have already made two and have almost finished a third. I don't know when I will stop.

Again..thanks. Ramona Mitchell

Hello Lisa this is prabha here. i want to thank you for the beautiful pattern of the baby dress you sent me. this is the first time i succeeded in making a dress and it has come out wonderful. i know there are some flaws but now that i have made one dress i am certain that i will improve gradually. my confidence level has suddenly shot up and i am getting more and more interested in crochet. thank you once again. god bless you. best wishes.

RE: Helmet Liner (several people had problems accessing this page)

Hi Lisa,
I've been receiving your newsletter for several years now and have enjoyed it thoroughly. You have inspiring messages and great info & patterns! In the May 15th issue you referenced information regarding a helment liner. I was interested in getting more, but was not able to get the pattern link to connect. Could you send it again? Thanks, LOL Lisa

Lisa, love your Crochet 'N' More have been a fan for a long time now. I found a problem. I went to download the pattern for the helment liner and all that came up was dots no words. Am I the only one that had this problem? I would really like to have this pattern as I am and will always be in support of our military. My husband was killed on active duty. Anyway whats up with acrobat reader or it just my puter. God Bless us all.

<< reply >>

Hi Lisa:

Thank you for such nice comments.
Another lady had a problem with the helmet liner pattern page. Here's the link:
http://www.geocities.com/helmetliner/crochethelmetliner.pdf
and if you have trouble printing the page you can try right clicking on the pattern and selecting it all...
then copy it into your word processing program to print from there. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for helping me with the cluster stitch. You made it so easy! Thanks a bunch!! Now I can get on with my project!!

HUMOR

"What am I supposed to do with this?" grumbled a motorist as the policeman handed him a speeding ticket.
"Keep it," the cop said, "when you collect four of them you get a bicycle."

"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend.
Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." -- Groucho Marx

** Weapons **
Apparently a high school teacher has been arrested in Washington D.C.
He was in possession of a compass, a protractor, and a straight edge.
Accusers claim he is a member of the al Gebra movement, a group
known for terrorizing students. The teacher was charged with possessing
weapons of math instruction.

Last night, a mole that was digging up the hill toward the house frustrated me,
leaving a trail of mounds. So I went outside to take the hose and try to wash
the mole out of its tunnel. As I left I overheard my daughter, Jennifer, saying:
"There goes Dad again, making fountains out of mole hills."

John was furious when his steak arrived too rare. "Waiter," he shouted, "Didn't you hear me say 'well done'?" "I can't thank you enough, sir," replied the waiter. "I hardly ever get a compliment."

My sister was bemoaning the fact that she had procrastinated cleaning and organizing her house for a long time. Since she was planning to entertain, she felt a lot of pressure to get moving. That afternoon she phoned, sounding glum. "I went to the bookstore," she explained. "And I bought a book on how to get organized. I was all fired up, and I decided to clean out all the shelves in the living room. While I was cleaning, I found the same darn book. I had bought it a couple of years ago!"

For those of us approaching the golden years, here's some important news to avoid that nursing home...

About 2 years ago my wife and I were on a cruise through the western Mediterranean aboard a Princess liner. At dinner we noticed an elderly lady sitting alone along the rail of the grand stairway in the main dining room. I also noticed that all the staff, ships officers, waiters, busboys, etc., all seemed very familiar with this lady. I asked our waiter who the lady was, expecting to be told she owned the line, but he said he only knew that she had been on board for the last four cruises, back to back. As we left the dining room one evening I caught her eye and stopped to say hello. We chatted and I said, "I understand you've been on this ship for the last four cruises".

She replied, "Yes, that's true."

I stated, "I don't understand" and she replied, without a pause,
"It's cheaper than a nursing home".

So, there will be no nursing home in my future. When I get old and feeble, I am going to get on a Princess Cruise Ship. The average cost for a nursing home is $200 per day. I have checked on reservations at Princess and I can get a long term discount and senior discount price of $135 per day. That leaves $65 a day for:

1. Gratuities which will only be $10 per day.

2. I will have as many as 10 meals a day if I can waddle to the restaurant, or I can have room service (which means I can have breakfast in bed every day of the week).

3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free washers and dryers, and shows every night.

4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo.

5. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. An extra $5 worth of tips will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.

6. I will get to meet new people every 14 days.

7. T.V. broken? Light bulb need changing? Need to have the mattress replaced? No Problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your inconvenience.

8. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don't even have to ask for them.

9. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip you are on Medicare; if you fall and break a hip on the Princess ship they will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of you r life.

Now hold on for the best! Do you want to see South America, the Panama Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or name where you want to go? Princess will have a ship ready to go. So don't look for me in a nursing home, just call shore to ship.

PS: And don't forget, when you die, they just dump you over the side at no charge
