Dear Subscriber:
School is finally out!
May 29th was the last day of school for the county.
Our daughter Haley finished Kindergarten above the age appropriate level in all of her subjects and she is reading most of the words required for finishing First Grade. Our niece, Sasha, finished 4th Grade with 100% attendance and straight A's.
I still have around 30 emails in my inbox.
I hope to get those taken care of in the next two weeks.
I will be offline for the majority of time from June 14-22.
Have a great summer!

And it shall be, that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Acts 2:21
..."The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.
Mark 1:15
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
Romans 5:9
"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; that whoever believes may in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
John 3:14-18
"WE ARE SAVED BY GOD'S MERCY, NOT BY OUR MERIT
--
BY CHRIST'S DYING, NOT BY OUR DOING."
This quote is from Our Daily Bread - May, 2003 Issue.

"For where two or three have gathered
together in My name, there
I am in their midst." Matthew 18:20

to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)
If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.
Stitch Idea submitted by Annie
"I would like to see the shell stitch pattern,
I would like to learn that stitch if you know it thanks."
Annie
There are different variations of the Shell Stitch.
SHELL
A Shell Stitch just means that more than one stitch (such as a double
crochet) is worked in the same space.
Example:
If a pattern calls for a 5 dc shell then you work 5 dc into the specified
stitch.
If a pattern calls for a 9 tr shell then you work 9 tr into the specified
stitch.
DOUBLE SHELL STITCH
(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st or ch sp.
You can find shell stitch afghans here:
http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/bev-preemie-cover.html
http://www.citiusa.com/shells.html
http://members.aol.com/SAG55/ashell.html
These are easily adjusted by changing the beginning chain.
Stitch Idea Submitted by Georgiann Eikenbary
"I'm not for sure about the name of this stitch and it might be Irish crochet, but I saw it in one of my books. It is not the clone stitch, but it was called something like bollon stitch. It is made by wrapping the thread around the hook at least 8 times, yo and carefully pull this one thread through all these loops. "
The bullion stitch can be made with a varied number of loops.
Here's one version:
BULLION STITCH
(a/k/a ROLL STITCH)
Yo 5 times, insert hk in next st, yo, draw lp through st and all 6 lps on hk. Ch 1.
This stitch has endless variations... click here for stitch photo.

Submitted by Georgiann Eikenbary
Tips: To bring work in position for the next row when turning:
if next row is to begin with a sc then ch l to turn
if next row is to begin with a hdc, ch 2 to turn
if next row is to begin with a dc, ch 3 (on most occasions a ch 2 will work because when you sl st at the top of this chain to join, it finishes it neatly)
if next row is to begin with a tr, ch 4 to turn
if next row is to begin with a dtr, ch 5 to turn
if next row is to begin with a tr tr, ch 6 to turn
Tips: When ending with a sc, chaining 1 to turn, and first st on next row is also a sc, be sure and sc in the last sc of ending row as it is very easy to accidentally skip this sc of ending row, especially if you are working with crochet thread and sometimes even with yarn.
WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF STITCHES TO FEATURE!
If you have a stitch or tip you'd like to see here drop us a line and include "STITCH/TIP" as the subject.

This was a wonderful site to visit--I will be sure to tell my crochet friends about it. I surely did enjoy the free patterns. I was looking for a potholder pattern, so even though I didn't find it, I did find some other patterns. It was nice to find a Christian web site. Happy Crocheting, Shirley(John3:16)

Thank you so much for your instructions on your crochet basics page. The detail that you gave on how many loops should be on your hook really helps, especially for the self learner. Thanks for your free patterns. I hope that more will continue to be added.

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews
My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6 years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom. On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my own edging. My other pet peeve
is an error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you can't even begin!

Two guys are bungee-jumping one day. The first guy says to the
second. "You know, we could make a lot of money running our own
bungee-jumping service in Mexico."
The second guy thinks this is a great idea, so the two pool
their money and buy everything they'll need - a tower, an
elastic cord, insurance, etc.
They travel to Mexico and begin to set up on the square. As they
are constructing the tower, a crowd begins to assemble. Slowly,
more and more people gather to watch them at work.
The first guy jumps. He bounces at the end of the cord, but when
he comes back up, the second guy notices that he has a few cuts
and scratches. Unfortunately, the second guy isn't able catch
him, he falls again, bounces and comes back up again.
This time, he is bruised and bleeding. Again, the second guy
misses him. The first guy falls again and bounces back up. This
time, he comes back pretty messed up - he's got a couple of
broken bones and is almost unconscious.
Luckily, the second guy finally catches him this time and says,
"What happened? Was the cord too long?"
The first guy says, "No, the cord was fine, but what is a 'pinata'?"
While riding the bus, my mother noticed a young man, who was holding onto
the same pole, staring at her. Eventually, he said, "Excuse me. This is my
stop."
Since she wasn't blocking his way, she was confused. "Well," she said, "go
ahead."
"And this is my pole," he said.
My mother was completely perplexed until the young man added, "I just bought
it at the hardware store to hold up my shower curtain."
And with that, he picked up his pole and carried it off the bus.
The cop got out of his car and the kid, that was stopped for speeding,
rolled down his window.
"I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said.
The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a
ticket.
A general noticed one of his soldiers behaving oddly. The soldier would
pick up any piece of paper he found, frown and say, "That's not it" and put
it down again.
This went on for some time, until the general arranged to have the soldier
psychologically tested.
The psychologist concluded that the soldier was deranged, and wrote out his
discharge from the army.
The soldier picked it up, smiled and said, "That's it."
The lion was proud of his mastery of the animal kingdom. One day he decided
to make sure all the other animals knew he was king of the jungle. He was
so confident that he bypassed the smaller animals and went straight to the
bear.
"Who is the king of the jungle?" the lion asked.
"Why, of course, you are," the bear replied. The lion gave a mighty roar of
approval.
Next he asked the tiger, "Who is the king of the jungle?"
The tiger quickly responded, "Everyone knows that YOU are, oh mighty lion."
Next on the list was the elephant. "Who is the king of the jungle?" the
lion asked.
The elephant immediately grabbed the lion with his trunk, whirled him around
in the air five or six times and slammed him into a tree. Then he pounded
him onto the ground several times, dunked him under water in a nearby lake
and finally dumped him out on the shore.
The lion - beaten, bruised and battered - struggled to his feet.
"Look," he told the elephant, "just because you don't know the answer is no
reason to get upset."
