WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

2 Timothy 4:6-8

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that no of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:8-10

"IS WHAT YOU'RE LIVING FOR WORTH DYING FOR?"

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - December, 2001 Issue.

American women have their own special eye for style and taste. They like apparel that has unique qualities and meets their needs for comfort and multi-purpose use. And we understand that. We also understand that value and customer service are important in the lifestyle of active, busy women who must often wear many hats. You want quick delivery . . . you like free shipping. And you don't have a great deal of time to be changing clothes several times in a day for multiple activities. You need versatile separates that travel well from work, to dinner with friends, to PTA meetings. And the good news is . . . we've got it all right here!

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

This stitch idea courtesy of Pam from Saskatchewan, Canada

REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET

The Reverse Single(a/k/a crab stitch) is an awkward stitch.
It is simply a regular single crochet stitch worked in the opposite
direction. The best advice I can give for this stitch is to make your stitches somewhat
loose by pulling up the loop just a bit more than you normally would.

You can find illustrated instructions here:
http://crochet.about.com/hobbies/crochet/library/weekly/aa112997.htm

janetlevinecotter asks "bead stitch? is it the same as a popcorn stitch.?"

No.

BEAD STITCH
Insert hook in st indicated, yo and pull up lp, (holding back last lp on hook, yo and pull through first lp on hook only) 3 times, yo and pull through both lps on hook.

POPCORN
The standard popcorn stitch is worked as follows:
5 dc in next ch, drop lp from hook, insert hook in first st of 5-dc group, pick up dropped lp, draw through st, ch 1. Then you can pop the popcorn to the right or wrong side of the work as needed.

CROCHET TIP:

Start a crochet yearbook!
Keep track of all finished projects by taking a photo and writing a little something about each one. For example, you make an afghan for your Mom for Christmas. Take a picture and write on the page that you made it for Mom for Christmas or whatever the occassion. Insert the page into a ring binder or purchase an actual scrap book to mount it in.

Please include your name and/or state of residence if you'd like to be recognized for your submission.

VIEWER FEEDBACK

NOTE: Any comments left on the CNM website or sent via email may be posted here.

I must thank you for all the wonderful patterns I've found on the web
from your site. I am recently retired and now that I have the time I am
learning to crochet. Your patterns for a beginner are so easy to
understand, to make up and more importantly they give me the confidence
to attempt harder projects. My grandmother crocheted and attempted to
teach me but when I was a child but I was a very active child and I
couldn't sit still long enough to learn. At 56 I still find it hard to
be still for too long but when I am crocheting I go into a different
world --remembering my grandmother's sewing room, with her sitting by
the window, crocheting doll clothes, doilies, and other clothes items
with me at her knee, looking on, watching her hands work so quickly and
effortlessly. I must confess that when I sit down to crochet in the
evenings, I find myself in a peaceful spiritual state with a calm
stillness I've never experienced before.

Thanks you for being gracious enough to share you projects with me.

Hi. . .
I made your dog sweater pattern this evening for my little chihuahua "Sissi". It is a really good pattern and I wanted to thank you for posting it. I also wanted to let you know what little bit I did change the pattern. On the last round, 24 I decreased it to make it fit a little snugger on her neck then I did another round of single crochets to sort of strenghten the neck. Thanks again. . I'm off now to make another one! Debbie.

Broke Leg!

It was the day of the big sale. Rumors of the sale and an
advertisement in the local paper were the main reasons for the long
line that formed in front of the store by 8:30, the store's opening
time.

A small man pushed his way to the front of the line, only to be pushed
back amid the crowd. On the man's second attempt, he
was punched square in the jaw and knocked around a bit, then thrown to
the end of the line again. As he got up the second time, he said to
the person at the end of the line:

"That does it! If they hit me one more time, I don't open the store!"

During a patient's two week follow-up appointment with his
cardiologist, he informed his doctor that he was having
trouble with one of his medications. "Which one?", asked
the doctor. "The patch. The nurse told me to put on a
new one every six hours and now I'm running out of places
to put it!" The doctor had him quickly undress and
discovered what he hoped he wouldn't see....Yes, the man
had over fifty patches on his body!

Now the instructions include removal of the old patch
before applying a new one.

"Open wider," requested the dentist, as he began his examination of the patient.

"Good grief!" he said startled. "You've got the biggest cavity I've ever
seen -- the biggest cavity I've ever seen."

"OK Doc!" replied the patient. "I'm scared enough without you saying something
like that twice."

"I didn't!" said the dentist.

"That was the echo."

A fella walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him
what he had.

He said, "Shingles."

So she took down his name, address, medical insurance number and told
him to have a seat. Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aid came out and
asked him what he had.

He said, "Shingles."

So she took down his height, weight, a complete medical history and
told him to wait in the examining room. A half-hour later, a nurse
came in and asked him what he had.

He said, "Shingles."

So she gave him a blood test, a blood pressure test, an
electrocardiogram, told him to take off all his clothes and wait for
the doctor. An hour later the doctor came in and asked him what he
had.

He said, "Shingles."

The doctor said, "Where?"

He said, "Outside in the truck. Where do you want them?"

The Baltimore Police Department, famous for its superior K-9 unit, was
somewhat taken aback by a recent incident. Returning home from work,
a woman had been shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized.
She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime. The police
dispatcher broadcast the call on the channels, and a K-9 officer
patrolling nearby was first on the scene. As he approached the house
with his dog on a leash, the woman ran out on the porch, clapped a
hand to her head and moaned, "I come home from work to find all my
possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do?
They send a blind policeman!"

During training exercises, the lieutenant driving down a muddy back
road encountered another car stuck in the mud with a red faced colonel
at the wheel.

"Your jeep stuck, sir?" asked the lieutenant as he pulled alongside.

"Nope," replied the colonel, coming over and handing him the keys,
"Yours is."
