WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

As for me, I shall call upon God, and the Lord will save me. Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and murmur, and He will hear my voice. He will redeem my soul in peace from the battle which is against me. For they are many who strive with me. God will hear and answer them, even the one who sits enthroned from of old - with whom there is no change, and who do not fear God. He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; he has violated his covenant. His speech was smoother than butter, but his heart was war; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. But Thou, O God, wilt bring them down to the pit of destruction; men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in Thee.

Psalm 55:16-23

And Samuel said to the people, "Do not fear. You have committed all this evil, yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the lord with all your heart.

1 Samuel 12:20

How blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee; in whose heart are the highways to Zion!

Psalm 84:5

"IN PRAYER, GOD HEARS MORE THAN WORDS;
HE LISTENS TO YOUR HEART."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - August, 2004 Issue.

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

POST STITCHES
Post stitches are regular stitches worked around the post of the indicated stitch.

A post? When you do a double crochet it looks like a little fence post.
When a pattern calls for you to work a stitch around the post you insert
your hook around the stitch instead of through it. If the pattern calls for
a front post stitch you insert your hook from front of the piece around the
post of the stitch. If it calls for a back post stitch you insert your hook
from the back around the post of the stitch.
The most common post
stitches are the front and back post double crochet stitches:

FPDC is the abbreviation for
FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET
Yarn over, insert hook from the front side of the work right to
left around the post of the indicated stitch on a previous row;

yo and pull up a loop (3 lps on hk)
yo and draw through two lps (2 lps on hk)
yo and draw through two lps (1 lp on hk)

BPDC is the abbreviation for
BACK POST DOUBLE CROCHET
Yarn over, insert hook from the back side of the work right to
left around the post of the indicated stitch on a previous row;

yo and pull up a loop (3 lps on hk)
yo and draw through two lps (2 lps on hk)
yo and draw through two lps (1 lp on hk)

Re: ReadAPattern

I've just started to learn how to crochet, and it's a lot harder than it was for me to learn to knit. I've been looking everywhere for help understanding these patterns, and this is the first website that actually explains what the patterns mean. I love it. thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely,
Bella

Hi... Enjoyed your site. Just curious as to why the man with the mustache on your home page is wearing a pink dress. Or, if it's a woman, why is she sporting a nice thick mustache? Very interesting choice of pictures for your page.

Patti

.... It's supposed to be a woman in the photo... and that's supposed to be her mouth. Guess I need to touch up that graphic :o)

I am 26 years old and love crochet. I mostly make baby blankets and am trying new things for babies. I am farely new, but am learning quickly and your site is so helpful. Thank you and God Bless you!

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews

My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6
years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom.
On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol
crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my
own edging. My other pet peeve
is an
error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you
can't even begin!

What's your pet peeve?

HUMOR

Self Help

Mrs. Applebee, the 6th grade teacher, posed the following problem to
one of her arithmetic classes:

"A wealthy man dies and leaves ten million dollars. One-fifth is to go
to his wife, one-fifth is to go to his son, one-sixth to his butler, and
the rest to charity. Now, what does each get?"

After a very long silence in the classroom, Little Morris raised his
hand.

The teacher called on Little Morris for his answer.

With complete sincerity in his voice, Little Morris answered, "A
lawyer!"

Two Elderly Ladies At Tea Two elderly women were fussing about their
husbands over tea one day.

"I do wish my Leroy would stop biting his nails. That makes me terribly
nervous!" the first one said.

"Oh, my Elmer used to do the same thing," the other woman commented.
"But I broke him of that habit real quick."

"What did you do?"

"I hid his teeth!"

A Swiss man, looking for directions, pulls up at a bus stop where two
guys are waiting.

"Entschuldigung, koennen Sie Deutsch sprechen?" he asks.

The two guys just stare at him.

"Excusez-moi, parlez vous Francais?" he tries. The two continue to
stare.

"Parlare Italiano?" No response.

"Hablan ustedes Espanol?" Still nothing.

The Swiss guy drives off, extremely disgusted.

The first guy turns to the second and says, "Y'know, maybe we should
learn a foreign language."

"Why?" says the other.

"That guy knew four languages, and it didn't do him any good."

The eight-year old boy had never spoken a word-ever.

One afternoon, as he sat eating his lunch he turned to his mother and
said, "Soup's cold."

His astonished mother exclaimed, "Son, I've waited so long to hear you
speak. But all these years you never said a thing. Why haven't you
spoken before?"

The boy looked at her and replied, "Up until now, everything's been
okay."

"I'm sorry," said the clerk in flower shop,

"We don't have potted geraniums. Could you use African violets instead?"

Replied the customer sadly,

"No, it was geraniums my wife told me to water while she was gone."

Having moved 15 times during our 37-year marriage, my husband and I
appreciate movers who take the time to label carefully boxes they pack
for us.

The accuracy of labels can make a huge difference when we try to find
something right away.

My favorite was done by one guy who attached this sticker to a box -
obviously not knowing how to spell the best one word description:

"Animals you hit with a stick at a Mexican party."

Early one evening a gentleman scuttled out to his garage and pulled the
lawn furniture out onto the driveway. Shortly after followed the
lawnmower, a few gardening tools and a bicycle.

A curious neighbor wandered over and asked if he was going to have a
garage sale.

"No," replied the gentleman, "my son just bought his first car and right
now he's getting ready for a big date."

"So what's with all the stuff?" asked the neighbor.

"Well, after years of moving tricycles, toys and sports equipment out of
the way every time I came home from work I wanted to make sure the
driveway was ready for him."

*Punishment*

An irritated father complained to his golf buddy.

"When I was a kid, my parents sent me to my room without supper if I
misbehaved. But my son has his own color TV, telephone, computer, every
computer game and CD player in his room!"

"So how do you handle it?" his friend asked.

"I send him to MY room!"
