WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Then Samson called to the Lord and said, "O Lord God, please remember me and please strengthen me just this time, O God, that I may at once be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes." And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and braced himself against them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left. And Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines!" And he bent with all his might so that the house fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he killed in his life.

Judges 16:28-30

Shadrach, Meshack and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O King. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."

Daniel 3:16-18

And it came about that when Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples, "You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be delivered up for crucifixion." Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas; and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth, and kill Him.

Matthew 26:1-4

"WHEN WE KNOW GOD STANDS WITH US,
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO STANDS AGAINST US."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - August, 2001 Issue.

REVERSE HALF DOUBLE

CROCHET TIP:

Keep small crocheted gifts such as a dish towel-dishcloth set, a set of coasters, a doily, baby afghans, etc., on hand. This way if you need a gift in a hurry you will be spared the time it takes for shopping.

VIEWER TIP

When working with a dark color, example black, place something white beneath the body of the item being formed. This will greatly assist in finding the areas you need to work with in the body of the item.

When working with two very colors, place something beneath the body of the item that is the same or near the primary color. The second color will stand out in the body of the item and be much easier to work with.

I hope the two suggestions help someone. I have used this technique with many crafts. The second suggestion is expecially helpful with other needlecraft, such as crewel and or cross stitch. However, it will work with crochet as well.

Bye for now.

Sincerely, Paula Turely

VIEWER FEEDBACK

NOTE: Any comments left on the CNM website or sent via email may be posted here.

Sherry Norden's tip regarding working with chenille should be patented or
copyrighted or whatever. Anyway this is one of the better tips for use with
chenille or even Homespun (LION'S)--I devised a similar technique using a
contrasting thread but this ribbon idea is far superior. The ribbon is
removed easily but the thread is a real pain. I really like working with the
chenilles and Homespun and certainly look forward to any tips other
crocheters are using. Some times these simple solutions are more valuable
than the older standbys.

Audrey writes:

Hi !!

I would like to know how to adjust thread crochet patterns to yarn patterns. How do you know what needle to use, etc?? HELP !!! I know this can be done, but haven't found the answer yet.

Thanks so much.
-----reply-----

Dear Audrey:

I do not know of a set formula or chart showing what needle to use with yarn when converting a pattern from thread. I normally use anywhere from a "G" to a "J" hook with any worsted weight yarn project. It's really a matter of preference... the larger the hook the larger the holes will be in the pattern.

I just love your magazine [for want of a better word]. I go back to it many
times before the new issue arrives. It is a site full of goodness and
positive feelings and neat patterns too. I am working on building my own site
where i want to sell my crochet work. When I get it up and going would you
like the address? Rachelle

-----reply-----

Middle Name

"Oh," sighed the wife one morning, "I'm convinced my
mind is almost completely gone!"

Her husband looked up from the newspaper and commented,
"I'm not surprised: You've been giving me a piece of it
every day for twenty years!"

Police interrogated a suspect by placing a metal
colander on his head and connecting it with wires
to a photocopy machine. The message "He's
Lying" was placed in the copier, and police pressed
the copy button each time they thought the suspect
wasn't telling the truth. Believing the "lie detector"
was working, the suspect confessed.

Q: Why does a cow wear a bell?

A: Its horns don't work.

A Texan lands in Sydney, Australia, and is picked up by a taxi.
After requesting a tour of the city, he starts into a tirade about
the small town airport and how in Texas they have larger runways
on their ranches...

They are soon crossing the Sydney Harbor bridge, and the man is
further unimpressed - "I have a duck pond bigger than that harbor,
and an ornamental bridge to span it that makes this look like a toy."

The Sydney-Newcastle expressway also gets his scorn - "Is this a
road or a track?"

So when a kangaroo jumps out in front of the cab, causing a sudden
and severe application of the brakes, the driver can't help himself.
He says, "Stupid grass hoppers!"

One day, a goober was constantly complaining about how everywhere she
touched her body, it hurt. Her grandma told her to go and see a doctor.

Once there, the goober explained to the doctor how everywhere she touched,
it hurt. She said... "If I touch here, it hurts, if I touch my arm, it hurts, if I
touch my foot, if I ..."

The doctor had never heard of this case of "ouchiness..." but, it came to a
result when he discovered that her finger was broken."

A young boy called the pastor of a local "corner" church to ask the pastor
to come by to pray for his mother who had been very ill with the flu.

The pastor knew the family and was aware they had been attending another
church down the road.

So the pastor asked, "Shouldn't you be asking Brother Simon down the road to
come by to pray with your mom?"

The young boy replied, "Yeah, but we didn't want to take the chance that he
might catch whatever this is that Mom has."
