WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"Never give the devil a ride; he will always want to drive."

Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you because you remember me in everything, and hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you. But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:1-3

The end of all things is at hand; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaint. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, let him speak, as it were, the utterances of God; whoever serves, let him do so as by the strength which God supplies so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever, Amen. Beloved, do not be surprised at the finery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exultation. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. By no means let any of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler; but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify God. For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER? Therefore, let those also who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

1 Peter 4:7-19

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity.

2 Peter 3:18

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Phillipians 2:3-4

Do not marvel, brethren, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, becuse we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in Him. We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1 John 3:13-16

"A CHRISTIAN'S LIFE IS A WINDOW
THROUGH WHICH OTHERS CAN SEE JESUS."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - June, 2006 Issue.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." Matthew 18:20

DOUBLE CROCHET POST STITCHES

Don't be scared when a pattern calls for a front post double crochet or a back post double crochet stitch. These are still normal double crochet stitches... it's the placement of the stitch that makes it unique.

CROCHET TIP

I have found that very soft yarns like Bernat Baby Coordinates work wonderful for baby afghans and ponchos.
However, I do not recommend using this yarn (or any other fuzzy type yarns) for fringing items where the cut ends of the yarn will be close to the face.

I made a poncho for a puppet that I used at church and when I held the puppet up over the curtain we use the fringe was very close to my face. The yarn fibers seemed to separate when I moved the puppet causing me to inhale them which irritated my nose. After that I know not to use fringe on baby afghans and things baby would put close to its face (which is just about everything ;o).

Re: great website

Thanks for a great website. It is so refreshing to read some Bible verses mixed in with the crochet articles. You have a wonderful testemony. Keep up the good work. In Christ, Teri

RE: Bible Quotations

I am not of your faith, but I do appreciate reading the references. Keep up God's work, and don't stop. We need more of this Thanks! Janice Bass

RE: Your Testimony

Hi Lisa, I just read your testimony. It was so uplifting. Thanks so much. I have a question though. When did you get saved? Is that the same thing as receiving Jesus as your Saviour? Teresa

<< reply >>

You're very welcome Teresa. I was baptized in July of 1995.
I went forward to accept Jesus during Vacation Bible School when I was about 13-14 years old.
Years later after getting married hubby and I decided to have a baby.
It was then that I knew I wanted to be baptized. I felt that I needed
to "cleanse my body" in order to have a "clean child".

According to the Bible:

"If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

"And Peter said to them, 'Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit'." Acts 2:38

So, going forward in church to accept Jesus saved me and being baptized gave me the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I've never felt cleaner than the day I came out of the baptismal at church.

Lisa

Thank you so much for explaining the asterisks in patterns to me. I followed your instructions and It was easy. Part of my problem was that I messed up on the previous round and didn't have the appropriate space to do the next stitch, but I didn't realize that because the ** were confusing me. I finished the doily and it looks really beautiful. I find your web site extremely helpful, thanks for being there.

Joanne

I have to tell you about this new book.
SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet
I'm so happy to have it in my crochet library.

Katherine Lee has an eye for style and a definite knack for creating beautiful crochet patterns.
I was really happy with the large colorful project photos.
There's something for everyone!
The aspect of Fabulous and Flirty Crochet that stood out to me was the section on the yarns used in the patterns.
One page shows "actual size" photos of the yarns which makes it super easy to substitute other yarns if you want to.
For those who stay strictly to the recommended yarn in a pattern Katherine has included a yarn resource list.
The projects are very fashionable and perfect for gift giving... though I'm sure you'll have to make something for yourself :o)
I can't wait to try the Flirty Skirt and the Ruffled Strap Tank.

HUMOR

A mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school alone. But he didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe. So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor, Mrs. Goodnest, if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn't notice her.

Mrs. Goodnest said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed. The next school day, Mrs. Goodnest and her little girl, Marcy, set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor boy he knew. She did this for the whole week.

As the boys walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy's little friend noticed the same lady following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally he said to Timmy, "Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?"

Timmy nonchalantly replied, "Yeah, I know who she is."

The friend said, "Well, who is she?"

"That's just Shirley Goodnest," Timmy replied, "and her daughter Marcy."

"Shirley Goodnest?
Who the heck is she and why is she following us?"

"Well," Timmy explained, "every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, 'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life'," so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!

A teenager who had just received her learner's permit offered to drive her parents to church. After a hair-raising ride, they finally reached their destination.

The mother got out of the car and said, "Thank you!"

"Anytime," her daughter replied.

As the woman slammed the door, she said, "I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to God."

My wife has not spoken to me in three days. I think it has something to do with what happened on Sunday night when she thought she heard a noise downstairs. She nudged me and whispered, "Wake up, wake up!"

"What's the matter?" I asked.

"There are burglars in the kitchen. I think they're eating the tuna casserole I made tonight."

"That'll teach them!" I replied.

Dining out one evening, I noticed six teenagers boisterously celebrating some event at a nearby table. Toward their end of their meal, one of them got up and produced a camera.

"Hey, wait a minute," one of her companions said. "You have to be in the picture too."

When I approached and asked if I could help, the girl who owned the camera was delighted. I snapped a picture of the group and then, being unfamiliar with the camera, I asked her, "Do you want me to take another in case that one doesn't come out?"

"Oh, no, that's okay," she chirped innocently. "I always get double prints."

Bubba and Earl were on opposite sides of a river.
Bubba wanted to get to the side Earl was on so he yelled "how do you get to the other side?"
Earl answered "DUH! You ARE on the other side!".

I noticed my husband standing on the bathroom scale, sucking in his ample stomach.

Thinking he was trying to weigh less with this maneuver, I quipped, "I don't think that is going to help much, hon?"

"Sure it does," he said. "How else can I can see the numbers!"

At my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, I was looking through a photo album of their marriage ceremony. "Grandma, so many of these styles have come back over the years," I commented. Grandma never hesitated.

"That's why I've kept Grandpa all this time," she said. "I know he'll be back in style again one of these days."

My friend wanted a boat more than anything. His wife kept refusing, but he bought one anyway.

"I'll tell you what," he told her. "In the spirit of compromise, why don't you name the boat?" Being a good sport, she accepted.

When her husband went to the dock for the maiden voyage, this is the name he saw painted on the side:
"For Sale."

After I had purchased movie tickets for myself and my girlfriend, she went inside to find seats while I got some popcorn. By the time I was served, the previews were being shown. I stumbled my way through the dark, sat down and gave my girlfriend a kiss.

Then I heard a familiar voice say, "John, I'm back here."

A husband was in big trouble coming up to his wedding anniversary. His high spending, forever nagging, wife told him "ok tomorrow is our anniversary and there better be something in the driveway for me that goes from zero to 200 in 2 seconds flat". The next morning the wife found a small package in the driveway. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Funeral arrangements for the husband have been set for Saturday.

When my three-year-old son opened the birthday gift from his grandmother, he discovered a water pistol. He squealed with delight and headed for the nearest sink.

I was not so pleased. I turned to mom and said, "I'm surprised at you. Don't you remember how we used to drive you crazy with water guns?"

Mom smiled and then replied, "OH YES! I do remember."
