GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

Please pray for Jordan Hughes.
He is 20 months old - he had a tumor on his brain. Last week they did
surgery on him and they believe that the tumor was cancerous. They were
able to remove it all except for a small portion. Pray to give the little guy
strength and also for the doctors and his family.

Here's a pattern for those who love Blue's Clues:

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs wo such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it at all." And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands upon them.

Mark 10:13-16

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.

Romans 8:16-17

For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are fare off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself. And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!" So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Acts 2:39-41

CHILDREN, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise),
THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.
And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline
and instruction of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:1-4

"THE BEST THING YOU SPEND ON
YOUR CHILDREN IS YOUR TIME"

Houndstooth Stitch
Submitted by Betty Evans

You can find a Houndstooth Afghan pattern toward the bottom of this page:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/7247/more.html

Jamie's Scarf on this page is a Houndstooth design.
http://patterns.crochetcabana.com/jamies-scarf-petit.pdf

Cheryl Kessinger wrote me once about how to do the houndstooth stitch...
here's her message:
-----------------------------------------------
To join two pieces with the houndstooth stitch, hold both pieces together,
joining yarn in end stitch of piece nearest you and pull up a loop in that
stitch. Putting your hook up & over the pieces, bring hook from behind &
into the first stitch of the piece being held behind, & do a slip stitch.
Bring hook to front, do a slip stitch in next stitch of front piece. Return
to back piece, do a slip stitch in next stitch of back piece. It's really
simple once you understand the instructions. It's simply doing a slip stitch
in the front piece, then taking your hook over & behind, do a slip stitch in
the corresponding stitch on the back piece. Just make sure you don't put
your hook through both pieces at the same time. You will see that it makes a
flat but pretty seam on one side, but the stitches will be pretty much
invisible on the other side, so you can use either way for the top of your
article. I hope you can understand this, Lisa. I'm not too good at
explaining things. The lady that taught me to do this, said an old Indian
woman taught her to do it. It looks real good on afghans that are done in
strips or squares, but can be used for many things.

QUESTION:

RE: Afghan Stitch

Hi:

This is only the second newsletter I have received but I have been to your site a dozen times or more and you have great patterns. What I am having difficulty finding is the regular ole "Afghan" stitch, not the new Tunisian or Crochenit or On The Double but the original Afghan stitch. Do you plan to feature that in the future or have you already covered that particular stitch?

Thank you

Janet Nogle

ANSWER:

Hi Janet:

I have featured the afghan stitch in several issues of
my newsletter.

Here's are a couple of pages about the afghan stitch:

RE: Hanging Toilet Tissue Cover

I haven't tried this yet, but, it is just the "something different in toilet paper covers I have been looking for....Thank You!

Comments: I love the free patterns. Thanks to everyone. I love to crochet. It's my favorite pastime. I make a lot of money on it too around the christmas holiday. I'm never board because I carry it around with me all the time. I've done it so much that my right hand is screwed up and needed to have surgery. Some good habits are very hard to break. Thanks to all that send in the free patterns. I'll send one of my favorites in soon.

God Bless you All....especially to all the crochet lovers.

Lonnie Mayfield

This is to Lil: You were asking for patterns for a feminine cap for yourself. Sometimes the plain scull caps work up very pretty and will fit snug over your ears. Embellishing these with crocheted flowers, trims, and free form crochet will really dress them up. I've made four of these for a woman at work, each in a different color and each trimmed up differently. I used worsted weight yarn for all of them, and added on three extra rounds where it says Rnd. 6-9. (So it would be 6-12 rounds) You will love the way this fits and feels. For pattern go to:

Comments: HI,I found this via "Ask Jeeves" - What a tremendous Blessing to know that so many others are willing the Share their love for Christ and this hobby. I LOVE to crochet and i most generally make afghans for beds, couches & babies and in 1 pattern - it works and i speed right thru! i spend ALL my extra minutes, hours crocheting- i take it to my p.t. job, to my daughters ball games, to church, when i sit and watch tv. i'm definately addicted to crocheting. I was just recently BLEST to be able to complete 7 baby afghans and 2 babydoll afghans to be sent to a Mission trip that some of the people from my church are going on June 12-22,04; it was exciting and I was blest. My first grandson is due to be born in Aug04 and i've already made 2 afghans for him and i plan on MORE :-)
my grandma taught me when iwas younger and i didn't care for it; but then one day i was blest to pick it back up and i've been "hooked" ever since. Thanks!!
Always, Remember "PRAYER CHANGES THINGS!!!"

RE: One Hand Crochet

Name: Karen Miller
Comments: I really like your Christian site. I have a friend who is recovering from a stroke. She used to crochet a lot but now cannot use her left side. Does anyone know of a way she can crochet with just one hand? She would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
Karen
``````````````````````````
Hi Karen:
Please tell your friend the following:
There are actually two different ways a person can do one handed crochet.
You can use your good hand to hold the hook and a device to hold your yarn
OR
use a device to hold your hook and your good hand to guide the yarn.
The item available on the following page would hold your crochet hook for
you while you manipulate the yarn:
http://www.maddak.com/hpfeat/hparth/univ35.htm
The holder on this page might help also:
http://www.maddak.com/hpfeat/hparth/croc65.htm
The Yarn Guide available through Herrschers is good for holding yarn tension
without having to grip the yarn very much:
http://herrschners.com/products/product.aspx?sku=010376&q=WW010376&tab=
You may be able to place the yarn guide on one of the fingers of the bad/injured
hand and then hold your hook with your good hand.
They also have another item available called "Cro-Knit"
The description says: "The Cro-Knit slips easily onto your finger to make
your stitches more uniform and the yarn easier for you to handle.
Adjustable device works equally well with 2,3 or 4-ply yarn. Plastic
tension ring holds the yarn securely in place."
http://herrschners.com/products/product.aspx?sku=010401&q=WW010401&tab=
* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews
My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6
years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom.
On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol
crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my
own edging. My other pet peeve
is an
error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you
can't even begin!
What's your pet peeve?
HUMOR
Psychic
The new librarian decided that instead of checking out children's books by writing the names of borrowers on the book cards herself, she would have the youngsters sign their own names. She would then tell them they were signing a "Contract" for returning the books on time.
Her first customer was a second grader, who looked surprised to see a new librarian. He brought four books to the desk and shoved them across to the librarian, giving her his name as he did so.
The librarian pushed the books back and told him to sign them out. The boy laboriously printed his name on each book card and then handed them to her with a look of utter disgust.
Before the librarian could even start her speech he said, scornfully, "That other librarian we had could write."
"What'll you do," the teacher asked, "When you are as big
as your mother?"
"Diet," replied the young girl.
The High Cost Of Gift Wrapping
The father cried as the twin daughters selected
costly wedding gowns.
His wife said, "Honey, don't be sad."
The husband replied, "Darling, I don't mind giving
them away in marriage, but must they be so expensively
gift-wrapped?"
Switching Instruments
My parents recently retired. Mom always wanted to learn to play the piano,
so dad bought her a piano for her birthday.
A few weeks later, I asked how she was doing with it.
"Oh, we returned the piano." said My Dad, "I persuaded her to switch to a
clarinet instead."
"How come?" I asked.
"Well," he answered, "because with a clarinet, she can't sing."
The Weather Forecaster's Accuracy
Go to your back door and look for the dog.
If the dog is at the door and he is wet, it's probably raining. But
if the dog is standing there really soaking wet, it is probably
raining really hard.
If the dog's fur looks like it's been rubbed the wrong way, it's
probably windy.
If the dog has snow on his back, it's probably snowing.
Of course, to be able to tell the weather like this, you have to
leave the dog outside all the time, especially if you expect bad
weather.
Sincerely, The CAT
The Uniqueness Adoption
Teacher Debbie Moon's first graders were discussing a picture of a
family. One little boy in the picture had a different color hair
than the other family members.
One child suggested that he was adopted and a little girl said, "I
know all about adoptions because I was adopted."
"What does it mean to be adopted?" asked another child.
"It means," replied the girl, "that you grew in your mommy's heart
instead of her tummy."
A certain little girl, when asked her name, would reply, "I'm Mr.
Sugarbrown's daughter." Her mother told her this was wrong, she
must say, "I'm Jane Sugarbrown." The Vicar spoke to her in Sunday
School, and said, "Aren't you Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter?" She
replied, "I thought I was, but mother says I'm not."
