WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

A son honors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My respect? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests who despise My name. But you say, How have we despised Thy name?

Malachi 1:6

But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. He is the one whom God exalted to His righ hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

Acts 5:29-32

"KNOWING GOD GIVES MEANING TO LIFE;
OBEYING GOD GIVES PURPOSE TO LIFE."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - April, 2002 Issue.

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

CLUSTER STITCH

There are variations of the cluster stitch but basically it means there is
more than one stitch clustered together. Example: For a "3 double crochet cluster"
you would do each double crochet without completing
the last step (you would have 2 loops on the hook after the first dc, 3
loops on the hook after the second dc and 4 loops on the hook when all three
dcs are completed. Then you yarn over and draw through all of the loops.
That is what "Clusters" the stitch.

The following page has illustrations on how to do a cluster stitch over 4 double crochet stitches:
http://crochet.about.com/hobbies/crochet/library/blclustr.htm

CROCHET TIP:

Crocheting while waiting for the kids
I put my cone of crochet cotton over the 4 wheel drive gear shift in my truck...
this keeps the cone from rolling all over the truck while I work and allows the yarn to come off the skein easily. I don't recommend putting the cone over the regular gear shift though as you could accidentally put the truck in gear.

VIEWER FEEDBACK

NOTE: Any comments left on the CNM website or sent via email may be posted here.

I visited your site today for the first time because I love to crochet.
I was thrilled to see that it is a Christian site. What a wonderful way
to spread the Good News! I have been a Christian since I was 5 yr. old
(43 years now) and my husband & I are home missionaries here in Tn.
Keep up the good work!
In Christ's love,
Carol

Hello,

Thank you for wonerful free patterns. I crochet baby blankets and find it so relaxing and enjoyable. I usually do it in the evening and make a blanket in less than a week. My next blanket in going to be the "scarf-afghan" (easy). I have been in a rut making a pattern from the label of a baby yarn I like. It comes out so nice that everyone loves it and it always looks different depending on the color of the yarn (one color or variegated). I am ready to explore new patterns and will let you know how it comes out. Thank for this wonderful website.
Happy Easter. God is good. :)

IHS,
Sally Burtis

HI LISA!
First I want to tell you how BLESSED I was to visit your site and see your boldness in sharing the gospel. My husband and I pastor a small Baptist church in Morgantown, WV and I WAS SO ENCOURAGED to see that you use your opportunities to touch lives and advance the kingdom!!! I will pray that God will expand your territories in terms of your ministry!!
Secondly, I am looking for a patter for a plain man's sweater vest or longsleeve sweater - the type you would pull over a turtleneck or dress shirt. I would need an EASY crochet pattern, as I do NOT know how to knit!!
If you can find anything that is even close to what I have described to you, or you know where else I could look, I would appreciate your help!
BLESSINGS IN JESUS!
Julia L. Barney

Hi Lisa!
My finished afghan (just the body) was approximately 47" x 62".
Then I added a 1 inch tricot border (in a contrasting color).

I used Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn. It is a Super-Soft 4 ply worsted weight yarn.

I used approximately 32 ounces of 1 color for the body of the afghan; and approximately 4 ounces of a contrasting color
for the border trim.

Hope this helps to serve as a guide for those who want to try this pattern. Once again, thank you. I was so happy with the finished product!
Roberta

parachutes instead of flotation devices

My wife chewed me out at the company picnic a while back.
She said, "Doesn't it embarrass you that people have seen you go
up to the buffet table five times???"
"Not a bit," I replied.
Then I added, "I just tell them that 'I'm filling up the plate for my
wife'."

A car was involved in an accident in a street. As expected a large crowd gathered. A newspaper reporter, anxious to get his story could not get near the car. Being a clever sort, he started shouting loudly, "Let me through! Let me through! I am the son of the victim." The crowd made way for him. Lying in front of the car was a donkey.

Little Johnny wasn't getting good marks in school. One day
he made the teacher quite surprised.

He tapped her on the shoulder and said., "I don't want to
scare you, but my daddy says if I don't get better
grades.... somebody is going to get a spanking...."

A husband and wife were chatting with some
friends when the subject of marriage counseling came up.

"Oh, we'll never need that. My husband and I have a
great relationship," the wife explained.
"He was a communications major in college and I majored
in theater arts. He *communicates* real well and I *act*
like I'm listening!"

A friend and I were standing in line at a fast-food restaurant waiting
to place our order. There was a sign posted: NO BILLS LARGER THAN $20
WILL BE ACCEPTED. The woman in front of us turned to me and pointed to
the sign, remarking, "If I HAD a bill larger than $20, I wouldn't be
eating here."

I was scheduled to fly from North Carolina to Germany, where my husband was stationed in the military. As I checked in at the airport, the ticket agent asked me some standard security questions. "Has anyone given you any packages that you didn't pack yourself?" he asked. I told him that my mother-in-law had given me a parcel to take to her son. He looked at me very carefully and asked: "Does she like you?"

A husband and wife were driving down a country lane on their way to visit
some friends. They came to a muddy patch in the road and the car became
bogged. After a few minutes of trying to get the car out by themselves,
they saw a young farmer coming down the lane, driving some oxen before him.

He stopped when he saw the couple in trouble and offered to pull the car out
of the mud for $50. The husband accepted and minutes later the car was
free. The farmer turned to the husband and said, "You know, you're the
tenth car I've helped out of the mud today." The husband looks around at the
fields incredulously and asks the farmer, "When do you have time to plough
your land? At night?"

"No," the young farmer replied seriously, "Night is when I put the water in
the hole"

A Sunday school teacher asked her class, "What was Jesus' Mother's name?"

One child answered, "Mary."

The teacher then asked, "Who knows what Jesus' Father's name was?"

Another child said, "The Verge."

Confused, the teacher asked, "Where did you get that?"

The little one said, "Well, you know they are always talking about The Verge 'n' Mary."

After having an argument with his wife, John took his fishing pole and went
to the pond to do some fishing while he cooled his temper. He was just
sitting on the bank fishing when he felt that someone was behind him. He
quickly turned around and saw a man in a red suit, a tail, horns on his
head and a pitchfork in his hand. After looking the man over John just
turned back around and continued fishing. The man in the red suit said,
"Don't you know who I am?" John said "Yes, you're the devil, Satan."
Satan said, "Well, aren't you afraid of me?" John said, "Heck no, I've
been married to your sister for 40 years now!"
