WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony borne at the proper time. And for this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

1 Timothy 2:1-8

Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear or good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil. Wherefore it is necessary to be in subjection, no only because of wrath, but also for conscience' sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. Render to all what is due them; tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

Romans 13:1-7

Thus says the Lord to Cyrus His anointed, whom I have taken by the right hand, to subdue nations before him, and to loose the loins of kings; to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: I will go before you and make the rough places smooth; I will shatter the doors of bronze, and cut through their iron bars. And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden wealth of secret places, in order that you may know that it is I, The Lord, the God of Israel, who calls you by your name. For the sake of Jacob My servant, and Israel My chosen one, I have also called you by your name; I have given you a title of honor though you have not known Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides Me there is no God. I will gird you, though you have not known Me; that men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun that there is no one besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other, the One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these.

Isaiah 45:1-7

VIEWER TIP:
Submitted by Janet Wolfe, Pitman, NJ

"Hi, I have found it easy and fast to weave my ends in using a large eye needle. I can weave in the ends and go around a stitch to lock the end."

VIEWER TIP:
Submitted by Dianne Weaver, Idaho

Hi
Even though I have been crocheting for years, I sometimes have trouble counting how many rows I have crocheted and what row or round I am on. I use post it notes to help me keep track of where I am at in the pattern and what row I am on. They stick easily on your pattern and when you take them off they don't tear your pattern book. This also saves time as you don't have to try to figure out where
you left off.

WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF STITCHES TO FEATURE!
If you have a stitch or tip you'd like to see here
drop us a line and include "STITCH/TIP" as the subject.

Please include your name and/or state of residence if you'd like to be recognized for your submission.

VIEWER FEEDBACK

NOTE: Any comments left on the CNM website or sent via email may be posted here.

I just want to tell you that I love your website. It is wonderful to be at a
website of a Christian. Thank you so much for all the work you put into
this. I am currently teaching an adult Sunday school class on family and I
like to throw in a few bible trivia facts and questions. Thank you for
brightening my day and for taking the time to reach so many people.

Oh, and I love the info and patterns, too. May God bless you.

I am crocheting a pattern that gave instructions to treble crochet next three stiches together but gave no instructions on how to accomplish that! After much searching, I came across your site and found the answer! Thanks for being there and rescuing my project!

I have started crocheting again after almost 30 years. I enjoy doing the smaller projects that go fast and are useful. I found your site when I was looking for a towel topper pattern. I do like the CD coaster pattern also. I made an adjustment to the pattern because I had difficulty stretching the pieces to crochet together. I don’t skip a chain 1 space in Round 4 because when I did the coaster wasn’t big enough to stretch over the CD.

Thanks for your great site.

RE: Knitting

Hi Lisa,

I LOVE YOUR SITE!!!! I can't tell you how EXCITED I was (and still am)
to finally have found someone willing and happy to help me with all my
questions such as "how to read a pattern" and to even find patterns that
tell me if it's appropriate for my beginning level. I've been making
boring "back and forth" double crochet blankets for years and was ready
to start something new. Now I can do it with confidence.

The reason I'm writing you, however, is my girlfriend wants to learn to
knit. Do you know of a site like yours that she can use to help her?

Thank you so much.
Linda

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews

My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6
years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom.
On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol
crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my
own edging. My other pet peeve
is an
error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you
can't even begin!

What's your pet peeve?

A collector of rare books ran into an acquaintance who told him he had just
thrown away an old Bible that he found in a dusty, old box. He happened to
mention that Guten-somebody-or-other had printed it.

"Not Gutenberg?" gasped the collector.

"Yes, that was it!"
"You goober! You've thrown away one of the first books ever printed. A
copy recently sold at auction for half a million dollars!"

"Oh, I don't think this book would have been worth anything close to that
much," replied the man.

"It was scribbled all over in the margins by someone named Martin Luther."

A young child asked a woman how old she was. She answered,
"39 and holding." The child thought for a moment, then said, "And
how old would you be if you let go?"

An effusive client brought a litter of golden-retriever puppies to my
veterinary clinic for inoculations and worming. She loved them so much, she
couldn't keep from remarking about their cute habits.

As the look-alike pups squirmed over and under one another in their box, I
realized it would be difficult to tell the treated ones from the rest. I
turned on the water faucet, wet my fingers, and moistened each dog's head
when I had finished.

After the fourth puppy, I noticed my hitherto talkative client had grown
silent. As I sprinkled the last pup's head, the woman leaned forward and
whispered, "I never realized they had to be baptized."

I was teaching my 6-year-old daughter how to unbuckle her seat belt.

She asked, "Do I click the square?"

I said, "Yes."

She asked me, "Single click or double click?"

Ralph and his friend were driving through town when they came to a red
light. Cruising through the red light, Ralph's friend expressed concern.

"Don't worry," Ralph said. "My brother George does it all the time, and he
never gets caught."

Coming upon another red light at the next intersection, Ralph again went
speeding right through.

"Don't worry," Ralph assured his friend, "George does this every day, and
nothing ever happens to him."

At the next intersection, the light is green, and Ralph comes to a complete
stop.

"Why do you run through all the red lights and stop when we come to a green
light?" asks his friend.

"I'm always afraid that George might be coming through," replies Ralph.

The Diagnosis

Morris complained to his doctor, "I've been to three other doctors
and none of them agreed with your diagnosis."

The doctor calmly replied, "Just wait until the autopsy,
then they'll see that I was right."

After being away on business, Tom thought it would be nice to bring
his wife a little gift.
'How about some perfume? he asked the cosmetic's clerk.
She showed him a bottle costing $50.
'That's a bit much,' said Tom, so she returned with a smaller bottle
for $30.
'That's still quite a bit,' Tom complained.
Now growing annoyed, the clerk brought out a tiny $15 bottle.
'What I mean,' said Tom, 'is I'd like to see something really cheap.'

So the clerk handed him a mirror.
