WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

"Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Choose your words, for they become actions. Understand your actions, for they become habits. Study your habits, for they will become your character. Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny."
Author Unknown

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

1 John 1:8-10

My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

1 John 2:1-6

Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:15

Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. And the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

John 8:34-36

"THE MOST DEADLY SINS DO NOT LEAP UPON US,
THEY CREEP UPON US."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - March, 2007 Issue.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." Matthew 18:20

CROCHET STITCH or TECHNIQUE

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

CHAIN 1 SPACE
(CH1 SP)

When a pattern refers to "ch-1 sp" you are to work the indicated stitches into the hole beneath the chain instead of directly into the chain stitch itself.

NOTE: This works the same with a chain 2 space, a chain 3 space, etc.

FASTEN OFF

Once you complete your last stitch on a project you will have one loop on your hook.
Cut the yarn leaving about a 4-6" tail to be woven in.
Yarn over, draw the yarn tail completely through the loop, and pull it tight.
This secures the yarn so the project doesn't unravel.
Now you need to weave in the yarn tail
using a crochet hook or a yarn needle.
The yarn needle is quicker and you can weave the strand in without disturbing the stitches.
Here's a page that might help:
http://crochet.about.com/hobbies/crochet/library/bl_weave_ends.htm

CROCHET TIP

When you use up more than half of a skein of yarn the skein gets a bit unruly.
Roll what yarn is left in the skein into a ball so when you're ready to use it again
it will be minus the tangles.

Scrap Yarn Ideas ...

We have numbers 24-27 thanks to Jenny from East Tennessee

24. I used most of my scrap yarn and made a multi-colored Granny Square Afghan. After I got all of the squares finished...I went around every square with Black. Then joined them with black. It really turned out to be one of the most beautiful afghans I ever made. All of my family thought it was so beautiful...I had to make one for my Mother-in-law, my sister and my Momma to. LOL Also...try using white or any color you want to go around the squares. Everybody should try one like this...they really are gorgeous.
Hugs,
Jenny From East Tennessee

25. Scrap yarn is very good to make a solid square or circle with a single type of stitch. Then make another one and sew or crochet them together. It makes a great pot holder or hot pad.
Hugs,
Jenny From East Tennessee

26. If you have a couple of big scraps left over from a project...find or make up a pattern for your teens cell phone. As thin as the phones are today...it wouldn't take much. Make the front one color and the back another.
Hugs,
Jenny From East Tennessee

27. Crochet a circle with cotton thread or yarn. This makes a good coaster.
The ones that I have made...I make 2 circles and sew or crochet them together. It absorbs more.
Hugs,
Jenny From East Tennessee

do you have number 28?

How exciting!!!
That you share the Gospel of our Lord & Savior on your site. Not to many that want to even hear about God in this Nation that is trying to erase him from everything & everywhere. I visit your site often, I don't have any websites I just crochet for friends & family as gifts. I've served the Lord now almost 40 years and it's the best way to live especially knowing that eternity is just a breath away & I look forward to spending eternity with our Heavenly Father. Jesus is Coming Soon! Shalom

Back To School Collection

I have to tell you about this new book.
SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet
I'm so happy to have it in my crochet library.

Katherine Lee has an eye for style and a definite knack for creating beautiful crochet patterns.
I was really happy with the large colorful project photos.
There's something for everyone!
The aspect of Fabulous and Flirty Crochet that stood out to me was the section on the yarns used in the patterns.
One page shows "actual size" photos of the yarns which makes it super easy to substitute other yarns if you want to.
For those who stay strictly to the recommended yarn in a pattern Katherine has included a yarn resource list.
The projects are very fashionable and perfect for gift giving... though I'm sure you'll have to make something for yourself :o)
I can't wait to try the Flirty Skirt and the Ruffled Strap Tank.

HUMOR

On a business trip, my father approached a security checkpoint at the airport.
The National Guard shift was rotating, and a guard, in full uniform, was in line in front of him.
As with everybody else, the soldier was ordered to go through the metal detector.
So, as he did so, he handed his M-16 rifle to security personnel along with other items such as handcuffs and a flashlight. Still, the alarm sounded when he walked through. Further inspection revealed a little Swiss army knife inside one of his pockets.

"Sorry, Sir, but this item is prohibited," security said to the soldier.
Then, taking the knife away, the airport worker handed him back the M-16.

Mavis: My daughter believes in preventative medicine, doctor.

Doctor: Oh, really?

Mavis: Yes, she tries to prevent me from making her take it!

A YOUNG FELLOW was bragging to his buddy about his hunting skills.
Just as they arrived at their cabin, he said,
“You get the fire started, and I’ll go get us something for supper.”

He walked a few minutes and met a bear.
He immediately dropped everything he was carrying and ran back to the cabin as fast as he could, with the bear right at his heels. Just as he reached the cabin, he slipped and fell. The bear was going too fast to stop and skidded right through the open cabin door.

The young fellow got up, closed the door and shouted to his buddy from the outside,
“You skin that one, and I’ll go get us another.”

To save money, a mother of seven children frequently shopped at a bakery thrift store. She didn’t realize the impression she was making on her children until she overheard one reciting a prayer, saying,
“Give us this day our day-old bread.”

After saying bedtime prayers, little Sam asked what “Amen” meant.
His mother explained it meant they were all finished.
The next morning, he brushed his teeth, put down the toothbrush and said “Amen.”

Timmy wasn’t a fan of the dinner his mother set in front of him.
Before she let him begin to eat, she reminded him to say grace.
“Dear God,” began Timmy, “please don’t make me eat this.”

A new doctor had arrived in town. He could cure anything and anybody.
Everyone was amazed with what he could do - everyone except for Mr. Thompson, the town skeptic.
Grumpy old Mr. Thompson went to visit this 'miracle doctor' to prove that he wasn't anybody special.
When it was time for his appointment he told the doctor,
"Hey, doc, I've lost my sense of taste. I can't taste nothin', so what are ya goin' to do?"
The doctor scratched his head and mumbled to himself a little, then told Mr. Thompson,
"What you need is jar number 47."
So the doctor brought the jar out, opened it, and told Mr. Thompson to taste it.
He tasted it and immediately spit it out,
"This is gross!" he yelled.
"Looks like I just restored your sense of taste Mr. Thompson," said the doctor.
So Mr. Thompson went home.... very mad.

One month later, Mr. Thompson decides to go back to the doctor and try once again to expose him as a fake, by complaining of a new problem.
"Doc," he started, "I can't remember anything!"
Thinking he had the doctor stumped now, he waited as the doctor scratched his head, mumbled to himself a little, and told Mr. Thompson,
"What you need is jar number 47, it's......"
But before the doctor could finish his sentence, Mr. Thompson was cured and fled the room!

An off-duty police officer, familiar with radar guns, drove through a school zone within the legal speed limit when the flash of a camera went off, taking a picture of his license plate. The officer, thinking the radar was in error, drove by again; even more slowly. Another flash. He did it again for a third time, at an even slower speed. Same result.

"This guy must have messed up the settings," the off-duty officer thought.

A few weeks later, when he received the violations in the mail, he discovered three traffic tickets:
each for not wearing a seat belt!

Shortly after joining the Army, I was in line with some other inductees when the sergeant stepped forward with that day's assignments. After handing over various tasks, he asked,
"Does anyone here have experience with radio communications?"

A longtime ham operator, I shouted, "I do!"

"Good," he said. "You can dig the hole for the new telephone pole."

I was teaching my 6-year-old daughter how to unbuckle her seat belt.
She asked, "Do I click the square?"
I said, "Yes."
She asked me, "Single click or double click?"

Beware of buying anything when the manuals are bigger than the equipment.

Everyone had weighed in, and our diet-workshop leader began her lecture on the week's topic - the problems of dining out. She talked about alternatives, such as requesting diet sodas and dressings, and having meat broiled instead of fried. Finally she turned the question over to the group for discussion.

"What is the greatest problem you encounter when going out to eat?"

Replied one woman quickly, "Running into you!"

A highway patrolman was parked along the road, checking for speeders.
Late in the day, a car came down the road going well above the speed limit.
The patrolman pulled out, turned on his car’s lights and siren and soon had the speeder pulled over.
He got out, approached the driver and said,
“Good afternoon, young man. I’ve been waiting for you all day. What’s your excuse?”

“Officer,” the young man replied, “I got here as fast as I could.”

The officer was taken by surprise and let the speeder go with a warning.

While my third-grade class was completing a writing exercise, one of the students asked me how to spell "piranha." I told him I was unsure. To my delight, he went to the dictionary to solve his problem.

That's when I overheard another pupil say to him,
"Why bother to look it up? She doesn't know how to spell it anyway."
