GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

I'm very thankful to God for allowing me to publish this newsletter and I appreciate all who take the time to read it.
This time last year I was in the hospital and was unable to publish a February 28th issue.
I want to take a minute to thank everyone who sent me well wishes and visited me in the hospital.
Knowing everyone cared made me work to get better faster.

I give all the glory to God for giving me the ability to crochet and for allowing me to share my talent with others,
whether face to face or via this little window into the world. A minister on television the other day said we are keepers of God's
resources... that "we have what we have" and "we can do what we do" because God allows us to. Take a minute each day to thank God for all of the resources He has trusted to your care.

Now for a good laugh... check out this page.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. And we urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all men. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all men. Rejoice alwaysj; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

Acts 20:28

In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said "It is more blessed to give than receive."

Acts 20:35

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:2-5

SCARS~A POWERFUL MESSAGE

Some years ago on a hot summer day in south Florida. A little boy decided to
go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive
into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks,
and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam
toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.
His mother who was in the house looking out the window, saw the two as they
got closer and closer together.

In utter fear, she ran toward the water, yelling to her son as loudly as she
could. Hearing her voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn to
swim to his mother. It was too late. Just as he reached her, the alligator
reached him. From the dock, the mother grabbed her little boy by the arms
just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war
between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the mother, but the
mother was much too passionate to let go.

A farmer happened to drive by, heard her screams, raced from his truck, took
aim and shot the alligator. Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the
hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the
vicious attack of the animal, and, on his arms, were deep scratches where
his mother's fingernails dug into his flesh in her effort to hang on to the
son she loved.

The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he
would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with
obvious pride, he said to the reporter, "But look at my arms. I have great
scars on my
arms, too. I have them because my Mom wouldn't let go."

You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not
from an alligator, or anything quite so dramatic. But the scars of a painful
past, Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret.
But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go. In the
midst of your struggle, He's been there holding on to you. The Scripture
teaches that God loves you. You are a child of God. He wants to protect you
and provide for you in every way. But sometimes we foolishly wade into
dangerous situations. The swimming hole of life is filled with peril and we
forget that the enemy is waiting to attack.

That's when the tug-of-war begins and if you have the scars of His love on
your arms be very, very grateful. He did not and will not -- let you go.
Please pass this on to those you love. God has blessed you, so that you can
be a blessing to others. You just never know where a person is in his/her
life and what they are going through. That is why it is so important that we
are not selfish to receive the blessings of these messages without
forwarding them to someone else.

BEAD CROCHET

There are various methods that I've seen to incorporate beads into crochet
projects.

Method #1: Thread all of the beads you think you will need for a project
onto the yarn before you begin crocheting and pull them down into position
as you go.

Method #2: Using a bead with quite a large hole and a crochet hook that has
a head small enough to fit into the hole of the bead, crochet each bead onto
the project as you go.

Method #3: Sew the beads onto the project after you finish crocheting it,

RE: Granny Square Pattern

Hello there. I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know I really enjoy your website and was so glad I ran across it.
I had been looking for a Basic Granny Square Pattern for a while now to make blankets to donate to an animal rescue organization. I had found several, but I just couldn't get the hang of Granny Squares. Then I found your website, and your pattern. It was so easy. I've almost completed my first blanket. Once again thank you so very much for the wonderful and easy pattern.

Re: Thanks!

Hi Lisa,
I just recently downloaded your pattern for the Tote Purse. I was looking for a pattern to make a bag that my daughter could carry several loose leaf binders in (she's 21). I adjusted the pattern of the Tote Purse to make it a little bigger...wider actually, and it turned out wonderful...and worked up so easily. I completed it in 2 days!
Your instructions are wonderful and easy to follow.
Thanks for all of your work on this site and the projects you provide for us.
Fondly,
Gloria

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews

My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6
years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom.
On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol
crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my
own edging. My other pet peeve
is an
error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you
can't even begin!

What's your pet peeve?

VIEWER JOKE

There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country.

"Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the postal clerk.

"Only the Ten Commandments." answered the lady.

VIEWER JOKE
Submitted by Ann Guidry

A highway patrolman pulled alongside a speeding car on the freeway. Glancing at the car, he was astounded to see that the blonde behind the wheel was crocheting! Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the trooper cranked down his window, turned on his bullhorn and yelled, "PULL OVER!" "NO!" the blonde yelled back,
"IT'S A SCARF!"

Children's Attempts at Singing Well Known Hymns.

Sometimes kids get things a little......well, maybe these came from kids:

Give us this day our deli bread!

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Whole East Coast.

We shall come to Joyce's, bringing in the cheese.

Gladly, the consecrated, cross-eyed bear.

He carrots for you.

Bringing in the Sheets.

While shepherds washed their socks by night He socked me and boxed me with
His redeeming glove.

A couple's happy married life almost went on the rocks because of the
presence in the household of old Aunt Emma.

For seventeen long years she lived with them, always crotchety, always
demanding.

Eventually, the old girl passed away.

On the way back from the cemetery, the husband confessed to his wife,
"Darling, if I didn't love you so much, I don't think I would have put up
with having your Aunt Emma in the house all those years."

His wife looked at him aghast.

"My Aunt Emma!" she cried. "I thought she was 'your' Aunt Emma!"

"You just go ahead," the man in the shopping mall said to his wife. "While
you're shopping, I'll browse in the hardware store."

An hour later, she returned and saw him at the checkout counter. The clerk
was ringing up the last of a pile of tools and supplies that would fill two
wheelbarrows.

"Are you buying all this?" his wife asked incredulously.

"Well, yes," he said, embarrassed. Then waving his arm toward the interior
of the store, he added, "But look at all the stuff I'm leaving behind!"

As I drove into a parking lot, I noticed that a pickup truck with a dog
sitting behind the wheel was rolling toward a female pedestrian.

She seemed oblivious, so I hit my horn to get her attention.

She looked up just in time to jump out of the way of the truck's path, and
the vehicle bumped harmlessly into the curb and stopped.

I rushed to the woman's side to see if she was all right.

"I'm fine," she assured me,

"but I hate to think what could have happened to me if that dog hadn't
honked."

Employed by the human-development center of a corporation in the midwest, my
friend trains employees in proper dress codes and etiquette.

One day as she was stepping onto the elevator, a man casually dressed in
jeans and a golf shirt got on with her.

Thinking of her responsibilities, she scolded, "Dressed a little casually
today, aren't we?"

The man replied, "That's one benefit of owning the company...."

I am a very nervous flyer.

During a trip from California to Indiana, it didn't help that my connecting
flight from Denver was delayed twice because of mechanical problems.

Then, after we were aloft, I noticed the lights began flickering.

I mentioned this to a flight attendant.

"I'll take care of it," she said. Moments later the lights went out.
Clearly she had solved the problem by turning off all the lights.

A passenger across the aisle who had been watching me leaned over and said,

"Whatever you do, please don't ask about the engines."
