WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, that I may be delivered from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem my prove acceptable to the saints; so that I may come to you in joy by the will of God and find refreshing rest in your company. Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Romans 15:30-33

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

James 5:13-16

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:6

"WHEN YOU CAN'T BE THERE, YOU CAN HELP THROUGH PRAYER."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - January, 2004 Issue.

What are Free Loops?

Working in the FREE Loop(s) usually means working into
loops that remained earlier in the pattern.
An example would be if you work down the foundation chain
you could work in the "free loops" back up the other side to form an
oval shape. Another example would be if you work
one row in the front or back loop and then another row
you are told to work in the loops that were left over, hence
the "free loops".

ILLUSTRATED BASIC CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BEGINNER:

HOW TO DO A STARTING CHAIN

HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

DOUBLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

TRIPLE CROCHET (click here for instructions)

CROCHET TIP:

If you love making granny squares but don't enjoy putting them together....
try this pattern for a granny square afghan:
http://www.thesmartyarns.com/patterns/Aug00/GrannySquareAfghan.html
It's all one big square!

WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF STITCHES TO FEATURE!
If you have a stitch or tip you'd like to see here
drop us a line and include "STITCH/TIP" as the subject.

Please include your name and/or state of residence if you'd like to be recognized for your submission.

Hi,

This is my 2nd newsletter and I love the info. I am not sure if I can ask here for a specific pattern stitch? I had a pattern for a crochet octagon that looked like a quilt patch. The pattern was called I think " Grandmas Flower Garden ", I made a few patches but when I moved the pattern didn't move with me!!!! If this is not the right place to ask, please forgive me.

Bless you,

Claudia

hi, I'm Petra, avid crocheter and grandma. the 2 best links i order yarn from are: smileysyarn.com in NY, they sell for 30 - 50 % off retail and fast on shipping, yarnsale.com, a sidelink from Herrschners, a weekly discount sale.
I will try spindale.com in NC, the home of peaches n' cream. they sell catalogues, color cards and their cotton yarns to the public.

RE: Dog Sweater

Hi!

I just wanted to let you know that I love this pattern. Also, I omit the ch. 2 at the end of round 12 as it causes it to be slightly uneven there.

I have currently made and donated 10 of these sweaters in assorted sizes and colors to my local humane society. They put them on the cats after they have been shaved due to matted fur. The cats really appreciate them as they stay nice and warm. They have asked me to make 20 more in a smaller size for the kittens. They are also going to use them in their quarantine room as it is sometimes slightly cool in there.

I am so glad that I am able to provide these for the animals in need. Thank you so much for printing this pattern in your website. May God bless you in your continued work.

Sincerely,

Sue Schoeller

I have just taken up crochet and have found your website invaluable. Many thanks.

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews

My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6
years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom.
On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol
crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my
own edging. My other pet peeve
is an
error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you
can't even begin!

What's your pet peeve?

HUMOR

Rain Drops

As he was drilling a batch of recruits, the sergeant saw that one of them was marching out of step. Walking up next to the man as they marched, he said sarcastically: "Do you know they are all out of step except you?"

"What?" asked the recruit innocently.

"I said -- they are all out of step except you!" thundered the sergeant.

The recruit replied, "Well, sarge, you're in charge -- you tell them!"

Negotiations between union members and their employer were at an impasse. The union denied that their workers were flagrantly abusing their contract's sick-leave provisions.

One morning at the bargaining table, the company's chief negotiator held aloft the morning edition of the newspaper, "This man," he announced, "Called in Sick yesterday!"

There on the sports page, was a photo of the supposedly ill employee, who had just won a local golf tournament with an excellent score.

The silence in the room was broken by a union negotiator.

"Wow," he said. "Think of what kind of score he could have had if he hadn't been sick!"

An eccentric philosophy professor gave a one question final exam after a semester dealing with a broad array of topics. The class was already seated and ready to go when the professor picked up his chair, plopped it on his desk and wrote on the board: "Using everything we have learned this semester, prove that this chair does not exist."

Fingers flew, erasers erased, notebooks were filled in furious fashion. Some students wrote over 30 pages in one hour attempting to refute the existence of the chair. One member of the class however, was up and finished in less than a minute.

Weeks later when the grades were posted, the rest of the group wondered how he could have gotten an A when he had barely written anything at all. His answer consisted of two words: "What chair?"

As the manager of our hospital's softball team, I was responsible for returning equipment to the proper owners at the end of the season.

When I walked into the surgery department carrying a bat that belonged to one of the surgeons, I passed several patients and their families in a waiting area.

I heard one man say to his wife, "Look, honey, here comes your anesthesiologist."

After a long, dry sermon, the minister announced that he wished to meet with
the church board following the close of the service.

The first man to arrive and greet the minister was a total stranger.

"You misunderstood my announcement. This is a meeting of the board
members," explained the minister.

"I know," said the man, "but if there is anyone here more bored than I am,
then I'd like to meet him."

My kindergarten-aged daughter suddenly announced just before school that she needed to take a clean tee shirt to class. She told us the teacher was going to iron an anti-drug message on it.

My wife frantically swept through my daughter's room, finding nothing usable but one tee shirt that already had something printed on one side. She sent it off to school with my daughter. That afternoon, my daughter returned and happily showed off her shirt.

On one side it said, "Families are Forever."

And on the other, "Be Smart, Don't Start."

A couple phoned a neighbor to extend birthday greetings. They dialed the number and then sang "Happy Birthday" to him. But when they finished their off-key rendition, they discovered that they had dialed the wrong number.

"Don't let it bother you," said a strange but amused voice. "You folks need all the practice you can get."

"Dad," said Little Johnny, "I'm late for football practice. Would you please do my homework for me?"

The father said irately, "Son, it just wouldn't be right."

"That's okay," replied Little Johnny, "but you could at least give it a try, couldn't you?"

An acquaintance of mine, whose daughter was about to be married, decided to
give her a diamond ring that had been in the family for several generations.
The stone had never been appraised, so the father asked a gemologist friend
if she would take a look at it. She agreed, but said that, instead of a fee
she would accept lunch at one of Houston's finer restaurants.

A few days later, as he and the gem expert sat sipping a glass of Chablis,
he showed her the ring. She took out her jeweler's loupe, examined the
diamond carefully and handed it back.

"Wow," said a diner who had been watching from the next table. "These Texas
women are tough!"
