Single Square

Afghan made with 6 squares

The following pattern is my original design.
Please only copy or print this pattern for personal use.
Please contact me if you find any errors.

MATERIALS:

Hook: Size G

Yarn: Red Heart 4 ply Worsted Weight
The actual amount of yarn needed depends on how many squares you need for the size you want to make. If I remember correctly, I made nearly 2 squares from one 8 ounce skein of the Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. So, for the small afghan of 6 squares (3 of each color) you would need four 8 oz skeins (two of each color).

You might make a couple pillows... two of the squares will make a very nice throw pillow and you can add a decorative border of your choosing.

STITCHES USED:
Chain (ch): yarn over and draw the loop already on your hook

Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert your hook into the space indicated, yarn over and draw through the stitch and the loop on your hook.

Single Crochet (sc): Insert your hook into the stitch or space indicated, then yarn over and pull up a loop. (You should have two loops on your hook.) Yarn over and draw through both of the loops on your hook.

Double Crochet (dc): Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch or space indicated, yarn over again and pull up a loop. (You should have three loops on your hook.) Yarn over again and draw through two of the loops on the hook. (You should have two loops on your hook.) Yarn over again and draw through the last two of the loops on the hook.

SIZE: 6 squares makes a medium size afghan and 12 makes a large afghan.

JOINING SQUARES:

You can use any coordinating color to join the panels or motifs. If the squares are all different colors, choose a color that would blend with all of them... such as white or black. Arrange the squares (motifs) in an eye pleasing way then you can sew or crochet them together.

To sew the motifs together you will need a yarn needle and a coordinating color of yarn. Just hold the motifs with right sides together (the side facing you as you made the square) and stitch corresponding stitches together.

You can crochet motifs together in the same method OR place two square motifs side by side and join in a corner stitch on one motif, do a slip stitch, then chain one and do a slip stitch in the corresponding stitch on the other motif. Continue doing a slip stitch, chain 1, back and forth between the motifs. (You may need to add extra stitches in the corners to make the project lie flat).
