GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

It was brought to my attention recently that I had a link included on one of my pages that directed viewers to an adult content site. When I added the link it was for a site that sold yarn. The owner of that site didn't renew the domain name and someone else purchased it. Please email me if you see any links on my pages that direct you to any objectionable material. It is not my intent to link to such information and I apologize if anyone encountered the link before I could remove it.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.

Isaiah 40:28-31

An arrogant man stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the Lord will prosper. He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks wisely will be delivered. He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses. When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase.

Proverbs 28:25-28

By transgression an evil man is ensnared, but the righteous sings and rejoices. The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor, the wicked does nto understand such concern.

Proverbs 29:6-7

"A CHRISTLESS CHRISTMAS IS LIKE A COUNTERFEIT DOLLAR."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - November, 2001 Issue.

CROCHET STITCH, TECHNIQUE or TIP

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

If you know of any stitch I have omitted from our basics pages please drop me a line.

This stitch idea courtesy of Beth Parsons of Winchester, VA

AFGHAN STITCH

"Tunisian crochet" or the "afghan stitch" is worked using an extra long crochet hook with a cap on the end similar to that of a knitting needle. It is very important to check the number of stitches on the hook at the end of each row because it is very easy to skip the last stitch at the end of a row.

The links contain video clips of the basic afghan stitch:
http://stitchguide.com/pages/cro_afghanstitch.html
http://vickisdesigns.tripod.com/crochettips.htm

I have the afghan stitch listed on my Crochet Basics page:
http://www.crochetnmore.com/123basics.htm

Example:
NOTE: The right side of the work is always facing you.
Step 1: Make a base chain with the required number of stitches (no extra turning chain). Insert hook in 2nd ch from hk and draw through a lp. Leave this lp on the hook. Pull a lp through each ch, leaving them on the hk, to the end of the row.

Step 2: Work the return row from left to right. Do not turn the work. YO and draw lp through the first lp on the hk. YO and draw lp through the next 2 lps on the hook. Continue drawing through 2 lps to end of row. ~Return Row~

Step 3: Do not turn the work. Work from right to left. Skip the first vertical lp formed at the edge of the work in previous row. Insert hk from right to left behind the next vertical lp. Yo and draw yarn through the vertical lp. Leave this lp on hook. Continue in this way to end. make sure you do not sk the last vertical lp on left-handed side of work.

Repeat Steps 2 & 3 till project is desired length.

CROCHET TIP:

Never put your crochet project in a bag with a velcro closure... the velcro will catch your yarn and cause it to snag.

I wanted to just drop you aline and let you know that I made your sweater for
my little 7 week old chihuahua. It is so cute and it was so simple. I
will keep your pattern for in the future as she grows.
Thank you,
Allison Gregory

Hi,
I made your Christmas tree pattern, and it came out beautiful. I made some
alterations to the decoration of the tree though:
-Instead of miniature bells with ribbon, I used miniature red pompoms (2
pkgs) spaced all around to look like christmas balls - attached using a hot
glue gun;
-instead of ribbon for the tree top, the Ragg shop had miniature tree
ornaments and I purchased a Star Treetop and hot glued it in place;
-I also got a package of miniture bows and spaced them evenly around - these
were also attached with a hot glue gun.
-I used Polymark Dimensional paint - Sparkling White - painted on the tips of
a few of the branches and when it dried it looked like snow melting.

Thank you for making these patterns available. I love them. I've also used
the icicles, the popcorn garland (made in white for popcorn garland and
cranberry for cranberry garland), and the candles.
Jean

Hello....Just wanted to let you know that the scarf pattern turned out just lovely....I chained 152 stiches instead of 102.worked the pattern for 8 inches and then fringed. Do you by some chance have a pattern for a matching hat? I really enjoyed working with your pattern. Please let me know if you can devise something as a hat.

thanks again
Maxine

Just a note to say "Thank You" for a fabulous pattern. I have made 9 scarves as Christmas gifts using Lion Brand Wool-Ease. I also made one scarf using bulky yarn for a person who loves big bulky scarves. Again, thank you for a very simple and attractive pattern. Dee

HUMOR

Only In America...

In filling out an application for a factory
job, a man was puzzled for a long time over
this question:

"Person to notify in case of an accident."

Finally he wrote, "Anybody in sight."

DAD'S PAY CHECK

Three boys are in the schoolyard bragging about their fathers.

The first boy says, "My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he
calls it a poem, they give him $50."

The second boy says, "That's nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on a
piece of paper, he calls it a song, they give him $100."

The third boy says, "I got you both beat. My Dad scribbles a few words on a
piece of paper, he calls it a sermon. And it takes eight people to collect
all the money!"

Having moved 15 times during our 37-year marriage, my husband and I
appreciate movers who take the time to label carefully boxes they pack for
us.

The accuracy of labels can make a huge difference when we try to find
something right away.

My favorite was done by one guy who attached this sticker to a box -
obviously not knowing how to spell the best one word description:

"Animals you hit with a stick at a Mexican party."

Aboard a flight from L.A. to New York, Grandma Esther was taking her very
first flight.

They had only been aloft a few minutes when the elderly lady complained to
the stewardess that her ears were popping.

The girl smiled and gave the older woman some chewing gum, assuring her that
many people experienced the same discomfort.

When they landed in New York, Grandma thanked the stewardess.

"The chewing gum worked fine," she said, "but tell me, how do I get it out
of my ears?"

Little Susan was mother's helper. She helped set the table when
company was due for dinner. Presently everything was on, the guest
came in, and everyone sat down. Then Mother noticed something was missing.

"Susan," she said, "You didn't put a knife and fork at Mr. Smith's
place."

"I thought he wouldn't need them," explained Susan. "Daddy says . . .
he always eats like a horse!"

A guy in a taxi wanted to speak to the driver so he leaned forward and
tapped him on the shoulder.

The driver screamed, jumped up in the air and yanked the wheel over.

The car mounted the curb, demolished a lamppost and came to a stop inches
from a shop window.

The startled passenger said, "I didn't mean to frighten you, I just wanted
to ask you something."

The Taxi driver said, "It's not your fault sir. It's my first day as a cab
driver.

I've been driving a hearse for the past 25 years!"
