GENERAL NEWS

Dear Subscriber:

Hope this issue finds you doing well. I apologize for the delay.
We had inventory at work and I was blessed to work extra hours this week.

We live in the country and deal with lizards, turtles and snakes all the time.
But now.... we apparently have a bear near our house. A few days ago my cousin's garbage bin was turned over and there were footprints around it.

Bear

Tonight (9-18-20)
I heard my niece's dogs barking and when I looked outside I saw a flashlight at my cousin's house. Then he sent me this picture:

bear

I didn't used to think twice about going outside after dark.
Now I'm wondering when bears hibernate :)

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

“Love and compassion are the mother and father of a smile.
We need to create more smiles in our world today.
Smiles, after all, pave the way to a happy world.”
~~ Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free ~~

~~

“We do not need guns and bombs to bring peace, we need love and compassion.”
~~ Mother Teresa, The Joy in Loving: A Guide to Daily Living ~~

~~

“No one has ever become poor by giving."
~~ Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank ~~

For their heart was not steadfast toward Him, nor were they faithful in His covenant. But He, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity, and did not destroy them; and often He restrained His anger, and did not arouse all His wrath.

Psalm 78:37-38

The Lord's lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me. Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?" And the King will answer and say to them, "Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of the, you did it to Me.

Matthew 25:35-40

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?" And he answered and said, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS, AND YOU WILL LIVE." But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied and said, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went off leaving him half dead. And by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, and came to him, and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, "Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you." Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?" And he said "The one who showed mercy toward him" And Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same."

Luke 10:25-37

And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do in word of deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Colossians 3:12-17

"DEAR JESUS, THANK YOU
FOR MEETING MY SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL NEEDS.
HELP MY THANKFULNESS TO OVERFLOW IN THE WORLD
SO THAT I CAN GLORIFY YOU THROUGH CARING FOR OTHER PEOPLE."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - September, 2020 Issue

"For where two or three
have gathered together in My name,
there I am in their midst."
Matthew 18:20

CROCHET STITCH or TECHNIQUE

(A different crochet stitch and/or tip featured in each issue...
to be added later to the Crochet Basics page)

WORKING IN ROW ENDS

Sometimes a pattern has you work rows of stitches and then to form a border or edging
you are instructed to "work in the row ends". The row ends are the first & last stitches you did on each row. If the rows are single crochet stitches then the "end of the row" refers to
making the required stitches around the first & last single crochet stitches on each row.
If the first & last stitches on the row are double crochet stitches you work around the post of the double crochet stitches. No matter what kind of stitch you are using you work around the actual stitch on the end of the row... not into the top of it.

The first photo in the following picture shows a swatch turned on its side
with the ends of the rows on the top. I used a white cotton thread to work into the
row ends so you could see where the stitches go. The second photo shows the entire
piece with a border added. I worked one single crochet into each row end, one single
into each unworked loop of the foundation chain, one single in each row end up the opposite
side, and one single in each stitch on the last row I had made. For each corner I worked
3 singles so the motif wouldn't curl up.

RE: Post on the Crochetnmore Fan Page

Crochet Tip:
When you have part of a skein of yarn left over after a project, wind it into a ball then put the ball of yarn and the yarn label in a ziplock so you will always know the fiber content, brand, etc. This will be useful if you want to use that yarn in a future scrap yarn project.

I do that and then put all the bags in a storage tote; so when I need them I know where they are.

Crochet Tip:

>>> Sizes <<<
Making a crocheted item using:
the same pattern, same hook, and different yarn
can yield a different size.
A hat in sport weight yarn may fit a toddler.
Same pattern using a worsted weight yarn could fit an adult.

<< Comments >>

would using red heart be ok for an adult hat?
Deb Dacus

---
I've used Red Heart for adult hats before... it works well.

RE: Post on the Crochetnmore Fan Page

Crochet Tip:
Use a teapot as an assistant when crocheting with thread.
Pull the thread through the spout to keep it tame while crocheting.

What a waste of a teapot!

RE: Post on the Crochetnmore Fan Page

Crochet Tip:
Some projects require you to make two identical pieces (booties, slippers, etc). Make both pieces at the same time to ensure they turn out the same.

This is an excellent tip, but even when I do this they somehow come out slightly different.

This book is a wonderful addition to any crochet library.
I've had numerous requests over the years of what to crochet for boys.
Crobots are definitely the answer!
This 96-page book is filled with numerous types of Crobot patterns as well as well-illustrated instructions for the crochet stitches, assembly stitches and other embellishments used in the patterns. The patterns are well written, some of the book is written in a small font but the pictures are wonderful.

NOTE: This book comes to you with a safety warning regarding the small parts used in the patterns. Therefore, please use your own discretion as to the age of the child you intend the gift for.

I have to tell you about this new book.
SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet
I'm so happy to have it in my crochet library.

Katherine Lee has an eye for style and a definite knack for creating beautiful crochet patterns.
I was really happy with the large colorful project photos.
There's something for everyone!
The aspect of Fabulous and Flirty Crochet that stood out to me was the section on the yarns used in the patterns.
One page shows "actual size" photos of the yarns which makes it super easy to substitute other yarns if you want to.
For those who stay strictly to the recommended yarn in a pattern Katherine has included a yarn resource list.
The projects are very fashionable and perfect for gift giving... though I'm sure you'll have to make something for yourself :o)
I can't wait to try the Flirty Skirt and the Ruffled Strap Tank.

HUMOR

Last year I entered a Marathon. As soon as the race started I was the last of the runners.
It was embarrassing. The guy who was in front of me was making fun of me.
He said, "Hey buddy, how does it feel to be last?"
I said: "You really want to know?"
Then I dropped out of the race.

A teacher was finishing up a lesson on the joys of discovery and the importance of curiosity. "Where would we be today," she asked, "if no one had ever been curious?"

One child quietly spoke up from the back of the room. "In the garden of Eden?"

A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.
"Mama, look what I found", the boy called out.

" What have you got there, dear?"

With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear!"

The cop got out of his car and the kid that he stopped for speeding rolled down his window.

"I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said.

The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."

When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.

Busily checking in luggage for the large airline
where I work, I asked every traveler, "Is this
your suitcase?" before proceeding. At the peak
of the afternoon rush, one man hesitated after
my inquiry and then replied, "No, it's my
brother-in-law's -- but he said I could use it."

While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. The various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs, unfailingly intrigued her. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered,
" The tooth fairy will never believe this!"
