For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Roman 8:18
But to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exultation. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
1 Peter 4:13-14
You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.
1 Peter 5:5-10

Crochet into Ring
Submitted by Katie
QUESTION
I am a just starting to learn to crochet. I cannot figure out how to make 25 dc in the center of a ring I just made. Can you help?
(The complete instructions are: + With A, ch11. Join with sl st to form a ring, ch 3, make 25 dc in center of ring. Join with sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off (26sts).
Thanks, Katie
ANSWER
Hi Katie:
To work in the ring you work into the hole in the middle... not into the individual chains.
Make the 11 chains with color A and then join with a slip stitch to form the ring. Now chain 3 and work all 25 double crochet stitches into the center hole of the ring. Once the ring contains the 25 doubles you join with a slip stitch in the top chain of the beginning chain 3 (which counted as a double crochet too). This makes a total of 26 double crochet stitches. That's all there is to it.
Here's a page that may help you visualize better if my explanation is lacking:
http://crochet.about.com/library/bl_crochet_around_ring.htm
Hope this helps.

Easier way to make a Base Chain/Foundation Row.
Submitted by Frazzled
Base ch/sc
This is a stitch method that creates a base chain and foundation row of sc at the same time.)
"Start with a slip knot, ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, draw up loop, yo, draw through 1 loop, yo and draw through 2 loops 1 single crochet with its own chain at bottom. Work next stitch under loops of that chain. Insert hook under 2 loops at bottom of previous stitch, draw up loop, yo and draw through 1 loop, yo and draw through 2 loops. Repeat for length of foundation."

CROCHET TIP:
When working on graphed crochet patterns use a magnet board to keep your place.
This will make your project go alot faster since you will spend less time trying to
figure out where you are.

Re: CROCHET 'N' MORE NEWSLETTER - Vol 7, Issue 9
Lisa!
What a great site you have! I get so many ideas and patterns, and just love them.
Please keep up the good work, all the work, you do.
I happen to notice there was a comment made by a Karen Rinehart in this issue. I went to school with a Karen Rinehart, spelled this way. I was wondering if she happens to read this, if she went to Centerville (Ohio) High School in the mid-70's? I moved to Michigan just before my senior year and lost touch with her.

NOTE: Please email Lisa if you are or know Karen Rinehart. Thanks

Hi there,
I just wanted to write and say how thrilled and pleased and just down right comforted I was to see the plan of salvation laid out on your web site!! I'm also impressed w/ your selection of patterns, lol. I'm a pastors' wife here in St Helens, OR. We are with Riverside Baptist.
Now, all I have to do is get my dear hubby to hook up my printer so I can print some of these great patterns. I've already book-marked your site as a fav.
Well, enjoy the memorial day weekend, and thankyou again,
In His Love,
Donna Brown
P.s. I look forward to sharing your site info w/ our ladies here....

THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION BOUNCED WITH A FATAL ERROR FOR THE
EMAIL ADDRESS.
QUESTION:
From: CrochetMaster67
Dear Lisa:
I am in dire need of a crochet pattern for myself. I have been losing
my hair for several years now and I don't have the hope that it can grow
back. I need a feminine, soft type of skull cap. Sounds gross just to
read it. But it is a need I have and I do not like to wear wigs as they
are uncomfortable and irritating to the scalp. Can you direct me to a 20
simple pattern. I would also like to make these for other older women
who have the same problem. Please reply
Lil
ANSWER:
Dear Lil:
There are numerous patterns linked on the following sites:

I think this pattern looks feminine:

Hope you find a pattern you enjoy.
I do a lot of volunteer work for the needy and really appreciate the free patterns.
Thank You

Hi!
I just wanted to thank whoever did the afghan stitch dishcloth pattern. It was simple, quick, pretty, and makes a wonderful dishcloth. I made over a dozen for family, friends, teachers, and neighbors. I gave some as gifts at Christmas with bottles of Joy dishwashing liquid and I used the multicolored "rainbow" friend to remind the recipents that God is always faithful to His promises.
Just thought you might like to know. Thanks again and God bless you!
Sincerely,
Sandy Segal

Thanks for all the great patterns! A lady in my church has been laid-up from surgery and asked me for kitchen patterns she could crochet. I've shared the patterns with her and she sends her thanks also. Bless you.

I love crochet. Its fun to see this website. This website is better than any other website. I like it.

You diffently give excellent instructions to crochet lovers.
The best thing I like is when u say "God bless you". I sure need a prayer since I am going through extremely hard medical turmoil. I will have my leg cut off shortly, and I find it very hard to face. I ask dear Lord to give me strength but your religious comment helped me to realize that Dear God does answer your prayers. So I must not forget.
Thank you
Shar

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews
My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6 years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom. On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my own edging. My other pet peeve
is an error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you can't even begin!

One day, a little girl is sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly notices that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast to her brunette hair.
She looks at her mother and inquisitively asks, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?"
Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white."
The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then asked, "Momma, how come all of grandma's hairs are white?"
*Deer Hunting*
A group of friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day.
That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the
weight of an eight-point buck.
"Where's Henry?"
"Henry had a nasty fall and broke both of his legs. He's a couple of
miles back up the trail."
"You left Henry laying out there and carried the deer back!?!"
"A tough call," nodded the hunter, "but I figured no one is going to
steal Henry!"
Some quick thinking to get out of the "caught napping jam!"...
They told me at the blood bank that this might happen.
Whew! I must have left the top off the whiteout again!
I wasn't sleeping! I was testing the keyboard for drool
resistance.
My sister-in-law, a truck driver, had decided to get a dog for
protection.
As she inspected a likely candidate, the trainer told her, "He doesn't
like men."
"Perfect," my sister-in-law thought and took the dog.
Then one day she was approached by two men in a parking lot, and she
watched to see how her canine bodyguard would react.
Soon it became clear that the trainer wasn't kidding.
As the men got closer, the dog ran under the nearest car.
A man was speeding down the highway, feeling secure in a gaggle
of cars all traveling at the same speed.
However, as they passed a speed trap, he got nailed with an
infrared speed detector and was pulled over.
The officer handed him the citation, received his signature and
was about to walk away when the man asked, "Officer, I know I
was speeding, but I don't think it's fair - there were plenty
of other cars around me going just as fast, so why did *I* get
the ticket?"
"Ever go fishing?" the policeman suddenly asked the man.
"Ummm, yeah..." the startled man replied.
The officer grinned and added, "Ever catch *all* the fish?"
A two-and-a-half-year-old walked into the bathroom while her mother was putting on make-up.
"I'm going to look just like you, Mommy!" she announced.
"Maybe, when you grow up," her mother told her.
"No Mommy, tomorrow. I just put on that 'Oil of Old Lady' you always use."
Bidding at a local auction was proceeding furiously when the auctioneer suddenly announced,
"A gentleman in this room has lost a wallet containing $10,000. If it is returned, he will pay a reward of $2,000."
There was a moment's silence, and then from the back of the room came the cry,
"Two thousand five hundred!"
Old man Johnson limped into the doctor's office and said, "Doc, my right
knee hurts so bad, I can hardly walk!"
The doctor slowly eyed him from head to toe, paused and then said, "Mr.
Johnson, just how old are you?"
"98!" Johnson announced proudly.
The doctor just sighed, and looked at him again. . .
Finally he said, "Sir, I'm sorry. I mean, just look at you. You're
practically one hundred years old, and you're complaining that your knee
hurts? Well, what did you expect?"
The old man said, "Well, my other knee is 98 years old too, and it don't
hurt!"
