And when they led Him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus. And there were following Him a great multitude of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him. But Jesus turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.' Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, 'FALL ON US,' AND TO THE HILLS, 'COVER US.' "For if they do these things in the green tree, what will happen in the dry." And two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him. And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing."And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.
Luke 23:26-34
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened that while they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling apparel; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? "He is not here, but He has risen." Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again." And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. And these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. [But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at that which had happened.]
Luke 24:1-12
And when the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. And very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?" And looking up they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them. "Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. "But go, tell His disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He said to you.' " And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
James 1:12-13

CROCHET TIP:
Don't be afraid to use aluminum hooks with crochet thread. Some aluminum sizes work great with thread!
Just because traditional designers use steel hooks only for thread doesn't mean you have to :o)

I just wanted to thank you for posting your sweater instructions! Our cat
has surgury a couple months ago and needed a shirt or sweater to protect her
side - we'd been looking and looking for something comfortable that would
not mat the hair on her chest - doggie sweaters just weren't working for us!
We found that anything with "yarn" she tended to catch her teeth on - so we
used your pattern shape and made it out of swimsuit material - with Velcro
up the back for easy on and off - it's absolutely perfect - and we'd never
have thought of it without your pattern!
Our digital camera is out being repaired, but when I get it back I'll share
a picture with you.
thanks much!

AFTER READING OTHERS' COMPLIMENTS AND THANKS, I WANTED TO ADD MY OWN. I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING THE CROCHET NEWSLETTER FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW, AND I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT ONE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DEVOTION TO THE SITE. YOU DO A WONDERFUL JOB OF INSPIRING MY CROCHETING AND MY FAITH. GOD BLESS YOU. THE HUMOR THAT YOU ADD TO EACH NEWSLETTER ALWAYS BRINGS A SMILE TO MY FACE.
YOUR NEWSLETTER HAS PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH SEVERAL CHARITIES LOOKING FOR CROCHETED GOODS. WHEN I'M IN BETWEEN MY OWN HOME AND FAMILY PROJECTS, I LOOK TO SEE WHERE I CAN HELP OUT. I HAVE OFTEN WONDERED, AND MAYBE YOU CAN ANSWER ME, WHEN AN ORGANIZATION IS LOOKING FOR 6 OR 12 INCH SQUARES TO PUT TOGETHER INTO AFGHANS, IS THERE A CERTAIN SQUARE PATTERN THAT SHOULD BE USED?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.
LINDA

You're very welcome Linda.
Thank you so much for such a nice compliment.
I'm so glad to know you enjoy my newsletter.
As for which square pattern to use for charities...
unless a charity requests a specific pattern you can
use the pattern of your choice as long as the size
is right.
RE: Turning Chains
I'm glad you wrote back, I wanted to thank you again, and
tell you that I love your website and it has helped me alot!
I made a scarf for my friend using your patern with single and triple
crochet. It came out really nice!!!
I will continue to refer to you now and then, it you don't mind, as
questions or problems come up. I'm going to attempt a blanket next.
I have a "waffle" stitch I want to practice.
God Bless You and have a great weekend!

You're very welcome Annie... I'm glad my site
is helpful to you. I'm also glad you enjoyed my
scarf pattern. Feel free to write anytime.
I recently found your web site. I taught myself to crochet a few years ago. I was only able to find patterns from the 70's and 80's. Nothing that you would really want. I just wanted to say thank you for giving me patterns that are not only pretty but also useful. Thank you again for putting my needles back to work.

* My Pet Peeve:
By Cylinda Mathews
My personal pet peeve is to find an error at the very end of
a big pattern. About 6 years ago, I chose a lovely tablecloth
pattern from either a Magic or Decorative Crochet magazine
to make for my mom. On the last two rnds, after months of
working on this cloth, I found an error. Because these patterns
are in symbol crochet, and the edge of the cloth was hidden in
the picture, I had to design my own edging. My other pet peeve
is an error at the very beginning. If you can't figure it out, or
contact the designer, you can't even begin!

My family coat of arms ties at the back ... is that normal?
A Dutchman was explaining the red, white, and blue Netherlands flag to an American.
"Our flag is symbolic of our taxes. We get red when we talk about them, white when we get our tax bills, and blue after we pay them."
The American nodded. "It's the same in the USA only we see stars too!"
Two older women, Coleen and Melinda, who were rivals in a social circle met at a Christmas party at their country club.
"My dear," said Melinda, "Are those real pearls?"
"They are," replied Coleen.
"Of course the only way I could tell would be for me to bite them," smiled Melinda.
Coleen responded, "Yes, but for that you would need real teeth."
A preacher prepared for Sunday morning service, but only one person, a farmer, was there. He asked the farmer, "What do you think we should do?"
The farmer replied with a draw, "Well, if only one cow came into the barn, I'd feed it."
So the preacher mounted the pulpit and began to preach... and preach ... and preach. After about two hours, he concluded.
Then he stepped down and said to the farmer, "So, what did you think?"
The farmer replied, "Well, if only one cow came into the barn, I certainly wouldn't try to feed it all the hay."
A vacationer e-mailed a seaside hotel to ask its location. "It's only a stone's throw away from the beach," he was told.
"But how will I recognize it?" asked the man.
The reply was, "It's the one with all the broken windows."
A wealthy investor walked into a bank and said to the bank manager, "I would like to speak with Mr. Reginald Jones, who I understand is a tried and trusted employee of yours."
The banker said, "Yes he certainly was trusted. And he will be tried as soon as we catch him."
An elderly couple are both lying in bed one morning, having just awaken from a good night's sleep.
He takes her hand and she responds, "Don't touch me."
"Why not," he asks. She answers back, "Because I'm dead."
The husband says to her, "What are you talking about? We're both lying here in bed together and talking to one another."
The wife says, "No, I'm definitely dead."
Her husband insists, "You're not dead. What in the world makes you think you're dead?"
His wife answers, "I know I'm dead, because I woke up this morning and nothing hurts!"
A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"Hunting Flies" he responded.
"Oh!, Killing any?" she asked.
"Yep, 3 males and 2 females", he replied.
Intrigued, she asked. "How can you tell?"
He responded, "3 were on TV remote and 2 were on the phone."
The orthopedic surgeon I work for was moving to a new office, and his staff was helping transport many of the items. I sat the display skeleton in the front of my car, his bony arm across the back of my seat.
I hadn't considered the drive across town. At one traffic light, the stares of the people in the car beside me became obvious, and I looked across and explained, "I'm delivering him to my doctor's office."
The other driver leaned out of his window. "I hate to tell you, lady," he said, "but I think it's too late!"
