WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

James 1:2-4

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.

James 1:12-13

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

"GOD CHOOSES WHAT WE GO THROUGH; WE CHOOSE HOW WE GO THROUGH IT."

This quote is from Our Daily Bread - March, 2001 Issue.

CROCHET STITCH/TECHNIQUE:

POPCORN STITCH (PC)
The standard popcorn stitch is worked as follows:
5 dc in next ch, drop lp from hook, insert hook in first st of 5-dc group, pick up dropped lp, draw through st, ch 1. Then you can pop the popcorn to the right or wrong side of the work as needed.

CROCHET TIP:

If you plan to go on a trip pack your crochet project well before hand. I've been known to grab a pattern and yarn on the way out the door only to realize that I've forgotten my hook.

VIEWER TIP:

If you are stiffening your crochet projects with Starch or Sugar or a
commercial Stiffener, and these are holiday projects that will be packed
away in an attic or garage until the following year, Be sure to include
"moth balls" when you pack them. Moths and other insects LOVE to eat
starch, glue and sugar stiffening. Better to have a little smell of moth
balls than to take the chance of opening your Christmas or Holiday
decorations only to find the insects had a feast with them...

=============
VIEWER TIP:

If you stop crocheting on your project, insert a paper clip on the stitch still on the needle.
You will never lose that stitch. When you pick up your project, just take the paper clip off and insert your needle.
Helen.

WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF STITCHES TO FEATURE!
If you have a stitch or tip you'd like to see here
drop us a line and include "STITCH/TIP" as the subject.

Please include your name and/or state of residence if you'd like to be recognized for your submission.

Lisa I love the newsletter and look forward to it comming.
It is wonderful to see someone wittness for the Lord on the net. God bless you and your husband. One more thing - please tell me how I can send you a tip.
God Bless Rita
--------
You can send me a tip via regular email... just email lisacro@kih.net

I wrote for and received the pattern for the child's cape.
I made it for my 2 year old granddaughter, but as the
pattern didn't say how much yarn to buy, I bought too much.
So I made the same pattern, but twice as long in the back
for my 5 year old granddaughter. The hood fit both. Thanks
for the pattern, and keep up the work in the newsletter and
patterns.

Sue King
---------

Thanks Sue!
Most of my free patterns only require a small amount of yarn and I have no idea how to accurately measure
the amount. Also, most times I purchase the huge pound skeins or the big cones of cotton and it's difficult to judge amounts that way also.

First Name: Paula
Which is it?: Question.
My Suggestion/Question is:: Re: Putting crochet squares together
Has anyone developed a method for putting crochet squares together with a sewing machine? Would it be possible using a gathering stitch and a large needle? Do you feel the sewing machines companies would be interested in developing a needle for this use.. A dull one perhaps?
----
Not that I'm aware of. I believe it would be difficult to sew squares together even with a dull needle and achieve the desired effect. Also, if you sew the pieces the stitches may pucker and the seams may not be very attractive. If such a method would work I'm sure there would have to be a special machine foot to complement the needle to make it look right.

I was surfing the web looking for crocheted stole patterns and came upon your web site. I was pleased to learn that Andrew has done so well.

There is an organization you might like to know about for future reference.

It is: http://www.newbornsinneed.org
NEWBORNS IN NEED

I have gotten involved with this group and it brings me a lot of satisfaction to know I can help others.

I commute on the train each day, more than an hour in the morning and again in the evening so I crochet "wee" things for this organization. It's amazing how much I can get done in that two hours a day.

This group interests me because they do so much good and I can be a part of that. But also, my Mother was born in 1911 and weighed just two pounds. Her sister was very tall and thin and I remember being told how this sister's wedding ring would slip completely over Mother's hand. They used men's hankerchiefs folded in quarters and then triangles for diapers and she slept in a shoebox. She survived and was a little thing, barely 5' tall. She lived a wonderful life to the age of 85 when she passed away in 1996 the day after Mother's Day. It has always fascinated me how she survived so small in those days of very little medical help.

In any event now that I have bent your ear, just wanted to let you know of this organization. Take care.
Marilyn Roark

--- Thanks for sharing your story Marilyn... I've added the link to our Charity Links page.

Hi Lisa,

I talked to you about a week ago to ask you something about the finger towel pattern.

I just wanted to THANK YOU for such a nice pattern & a GREAT idea. I don't
sell anything but I made myself a few of them & it's just what I needed. I'm
always washing my hands so I have to use a big towel to dry them with. I
never know if the towel will stay where I put it but now, I can hang up a
little wire towel rack with hearts that my dad gave me for my little finger
towels!

I just love mine SO much.

So I just wanted to say THANKS AGAIN for such a neat idea!!

Take care,
Cathy

HUMOR

Little Johnny watched, fascinated, as his mother gently rubbed cold cream on her face.
"Why are you rubbing cold cream on you face, Mommy?" he asked.
"To make myself beautiful," said his mother.
A few minutes later, she began removing the cream with a tissue.
"What's the matter?" asked Little Johnny. "Giving up?"

**Adam & Eve were created from an apple tree.

**Noah's wife was called Joan of Ark.

**Noah built the ark and the animals came on in pears.

**Lot's wife was a pillar of salt by day, but a ball of fire by night.

**Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the Ten Amendments.

**The Fifth Commandment is humor thy mother and father.

Apologize, Please!

Customer at a counter of a lawn ornament shop: "Give me four of
those pinwheels, two of those pink flamingos, two of the sunflowers,
and one of those bent-over grandma in bloomers."

Cashier reply's: "That'll be eight dollars for the pinwheels, ten
dollars for the flamingos, six dollars for the sunflowers, and an
apology to my wife!"

A woman phoned her dentist when she received a huge bill. "I'm shocked!" she
complained. "This is three times what you normally charge."

"Yes, I know," said the dentist.

"But you yelled so loud, you scared away two other patients."

A little girl was on her way to Sunday School when
a bully jumps from the bushes...

Bully : Where you going!
Girl : To Sunday School.
Bully: You don't believe what they teach down there do you?
Girl: I sure do!
Bully: How about the story of Jonah and the whale - you believe that
too?
Girl: I sure do!
Bully: Well it is a proven fact that a whale can't swallow anything
bigger than an apple! What do you say about that?!
Girl : Well, I will ask Jonah about it when I get to Heaven.
Bully: Well what if he is not in Heaven when you get there?
Girl : Then you ask him!

Not To Worry

A police officer pulled a man driving a pick up truck over to the side of the road.

"What's the matter officer?" the man asked as he rolled down his window. "I don't think I was speeding."

"You weren't speeding," replied the officer. "You have a taillight broken, sir."

"What?" The driver got out and shuffled back to the rear of the truck, where his face became ashen white and his hands
began to tremble.

"A broken tail light isn't that bad, sir... I'm just going to issue you a warning."

"I'm not worried about the taillight!" shouted the man. "Where is my bass boat and trailer?"

Fast Thinking...Realllllly Fast Thinking!

After a day fishing in the ocean a fisherman is walking from the pier carrying two lobsters in a bucket. He is approached by the Game Warden who asks him for his fishing license.

The fisherman says to the warden, "I did not catch these lobsters, they are my pets. Everyday I come down to the water and whistle and these lobsters jump out and I take them for a walk only to return them at the end of the day."

The warden, not believing him, reminds him that it is illegal to fish without a license. The fisherman turns to the warden and says, "If you don't believe me then watch," as he throws the lobsters back into the water.

The warden says, "Now whistle to your lobsters and show me that they will come out of the water."

The fisherman turns to the warden and says, "What lobsters?"
