I designed this sweater for my Miniature Schnauzer, Schotzi.
So many people asked for the alterations for Gizmo (pictured below)
that their owner, Christy McMurray,
allowed us to post her instructions.

MATERIALS:

Hook: Size G (I use Boye brand)

Yarn: 4ply worsted weight yarn.

Stitches used: ch, sl st, hdc.

Difficulty: Easy (since there are no leg holes to shape)

Christy's Version:

Stomach
Chain the desired amount of chains (I used 60, like your pattern), join the stitches with slip st to form large ring, depending on dog's length, hdc the correct amount of rows (I used 12 like your pattern), finish off.

The pattern for Gizmo's sweater works best with an even amount of stitches.

Chest
I turned the stomach part so that the seam was on the side.
Since I used 60 hdc, after I finished off, I counted 7 st from the seam.
On the 8th st from the seam, hdc 16, turn and hdc across for 4 to 6 rows and finish off.

Back
Count 7 st past the hdcs for the chest and then hdc 30 for the same amount of rows as done for the chest part.

Neck
After the back is completed, chain 6 from the last hdc made and join with the end from the chest part. Do the same for the other side. Chain 2, then hdc around. Use the decrease stitch in various stitches (usually on the left and right sides) to shape the neck.

Sleeves
I just hdc around until I had the desired amount of sleeve. Also use the decrease stitch to help shape the sleeve.

HERE'S THE ORIGINAL DOG SWEATER PATTERN:

RND 1:Using a G hook ch 40, join with sl st being careful not to twist the chain. Ch2, hdc in next ch and in ea ch around. Join with sl st in top of beg ch2. Ch 2. DO NOT TURN

RND 2 -7: Hdc in next st and in ea st around. Join with sl st in top of beg ch 2. CH2. DO NOT TURN

RND 8: Sl st in next 10 sts, ch 2, hdc in next 19 sts (20 including beg ch 2) ch 2 TURN

ROWS 9-13: Hdc in ea hdc, ch 2, TURN.

RND 14: Hdc in ea hdc, ch 10. DO NOT TURN. Join with sl st to opposite side of row just completed, ch 2

RND 15: Hdc in ea st and ch around, ch 2 DO NOT TURN

RND 16-17 Repeat Rnd 15.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
